Hi all! :flower: I'm new to posting here, but have been an avid Disboards reader for a while now, but I can't seem to find the answer to this. I booked a last minute trip to the Grand Floridian for our anniversary in a couuple of weeks, and i'm a bit worried now. We booked a garden view room, but now I'm worried about the view? I read through the FAQ thread on it, and it seems like we won't be able to see the castle, but the Cast Member I spoke with said if we requested Conch Key, we would? Is that true? Also, he said that the corner rooms are larger? Is that true also?

Thank you so much! You all seem so friendly!

If you want to be sure, then you will have to book a lagoon view. A request is only a request.

Castle view rooms would be LV. Yes, corner rooms are slightly larger as are the lodge tower rooms (separate category, has seating area). Also have 2 balcony (2nd balcony does not have large glass door as main one does) so you recieve 2 views many are LV based on this, so you usually are in a LV to get the corner room, they are more limited in the GV. We have had a GV that was conch key top floor facing main pool, dormer room, that looking to left you could see some of the lagoon but not the magic kingdom area (wrong direction). Also remember that the dormer rooms on the top floor are slightly smaller than the other rooms and have a different balcony set up. its a standing balcony, "private". The ceiling are really beauitful but the balcony's I find to be small, and you have to be standing to see out from the room, its a solid wall. GV rooms are really quite lovely at GF they have recently cut down a lot of there trees but the lawn, pool areas, and flowers are great, lots of people watching and landscaping.

You might want to state nicely at check in that it is your anniversary and that you'd really love a nice view. Both times we have stayed GV there we have been upgraded to LV. The first time it was Poly view, this time for DDs birthday we had LV, castle and Space Mountain. We were in Boca Chica. Sending you Pixie Dust! :wizard: :wizard:

You can request Conch Key, marina view and probably see the castle from your balcony. This view is the same price as the garden. Even if you upgraded and went with a lagoon view, the castle is not guaranteed. You could end up overlooking the beach and Polynesian instead.

Honestly, I would keep the garden view and just have them notate your request of Conch Key, marina view, corner room. It won't guarantee an upgrade, but it doesn't hurt to have them note your anniversary on there too.

When you arrive at the resort, just ask the CM who is checking you in to look at view availability. They usually have a block of rooms that are open to incoming guests and also can see what's due to be vacated. I'm sure they'll be able to take care of you.

You did not make a mistake! :sunny: :flower: :cool1: :cheer2:

Grand Floridian is fabulous in whatever category you land in. We've loved Garden and Lagoon and Castle views all the same. It's lovely and peaceful there

Thank you guys very much!

I would love to book a lagoon view, but also would like to do other things so am settling for garden view. It's such a lovely resort, and seems very relaxing, and I can't think of a more perfect resort to celebrate in!

Tammi, thank you very much for your direction; your advice in the FAQ thread is great. I think we would like Conch Key very much. I like being a bit away from it all, and got very spoiled by water taxies at the Yacht and Beach Club. MKY, thank you for telling me about the dormer rooms. One of my kids towers over me, and just the thought of him bumping his head makes me :rotfl2:

Thank you for the pixie dust too! I'm sure there are many more pressing requests than ours. I'm just grateful to be staying there!

After reading the FAQ, looking at the maps and pics, etc., this is exactly the building/area I requested. We're just thrilled to be getting to stay at the GF at all, and didn't really feel like shelling out the extra $$ for LV.

It's mine and my mom's b-day when we go - here's hoping that Tinkerbell looks out for both of us! Have a magical anniversary! :wizard:

i really like the Gf
the tea is great and they have wonderful places to eat
the greeter there is so nice what cute little man
i enjoyed it so much that now my mom wont stay anywhere else

You didn't make a mistake at all! If it wasn't for the Grand Floridian, I wouldn't even go to WDW(we usually go to Disneyland).
The Grand Floridian is absolutely beautiful. :flower:

I requested to be in Conch Key and had a garden view room. My room faced the courtyard and I was able to see out over the lagoon. It was an amazing view. :goodvibes

Tinkaroo - I'll put in a good word for you when I'm there! :goodvibes

I love the greeter there! He was sooooooo very nice. I have a picture of him hugging my daughter at Christmas. She and I went for a spa day and really fell in love with the place. I used to have a 'stuffy' opinion of the resort, but that was before I knew better. Silly me!

It's funny, but I don't even care to go to the parks this time. I just want to stay at the resort and bum around. I did call and asked for Conch Key tonight, and she noted it on my reservation. I also booked 1900 Park Faire for breakfast - felt silly, but hey, you're only a kid once, right? :bride:

We went, and had a very lovely time. We got Conch Key, but they put us in a 'dormer' room (the room assignor later said that CRO confused 'dormer' and 'corner' in the notes) and when we got to the room, found it very lovely, but without the necessary daybed (which we need to keep the kids from strangling each other.) I made a quick call to the front desk, and Tim apologized and said that my requests were most definately in the notes, and he could switch us to another room over in Conch. We looked out over Narcoosees, and really enjoyed the location, the size of the room, and most importantly, that daybed! LOL!

At any rate, I really thank you all! We had a very lovely, albeit very short stay. I can't wait to go back!

Glad to hear you had such a good trip! thanks for the update!

no mistake...the GF is my favorite resort at WDW....unfortunately we're not staying there this year and i'm really sorry about that....it's magical...

Didn't make a mistake.
I booked a garden view room and noted on my reservation (Conch Key-corner dormer room). Those rooms ended up not being available. But they did put me in room 7130 which was a lagoon view that included views of Cinderella's Castle as well as the Contemporary Resort. It was beautiful & the best view we ever had.
Good luck to you & I hope you enjoy your anniversary ;)

We will be staying at the GF for our anniversary in December. This will be our first time in Dec. and at the GF.

Thanks for the update! We are going for our first GF stay this December and I am starting to get very excited about it. I've always been hesitant because I have 2 very active (but well behaved and polite) little boys and I have always worried that it is more of a honeymoon-y resort rather than a family resort but now that the ressies are made, I'm excited!

Tripplefigs, we will be there around the same time as you so maybe we will see you there! :wave2:
