Does anyone know if I have to order my cake through the Cafe if we do our dinner there? Does anyone have pictures of cakes they offer, or know if we can pick out a design ourselves? Thank you everyone! Jess

If you order it through the Grand Floridian's Bakery directly you can have any cake you want to pay for. Just tell them you're dinning at the cafe and need it delivered on x day at y time. If you order it through the resturant I think your pretty limited to a standard celebration cake that they'd bring out for any birthday or anniversary.

If your wedding reception is being arranged thru DFTW, then your EM will arrange the cake for you.

The staff of the GF Cafe very rarely do receptions, and are unfamiliar with the procedure of ordering cakes, presentation, and service of said cake (i.e. cutting properly, removal of fondant if need be, etc.) If you have a large group, then you really should contact them and see if they can accomodate you. As far as the cake itself, the GF bakery can only supply a stacked 2 tier cake for this restaurant, as they usually do not have the space for a typical wedding cake set up and display. Your cake would be brought out after your meal and cut then.

We're doing a Swan wedding. Would the cake still go through our EM? She is on vacation right now, but I would rather the cake went through her. I did want a cake cutting table set up, so maybe I should call the GF? Does anyone have a # for the private dining for them? Or know who I should contact for it?? I've already spoken to Disney Dining and they weren't much help. All they said was to call back within the 180 day mark, but the cake ordering is part of our decision to have our dinner there so we want to know sooner rather than later if we can afford to have dinner and cake there. Does that make sense?

Hi Jess
are you getting a cake from Swan too? or omitted that?
So what exactly do you plan on doing at the cafe? will it be a wedding reception dinner or just 'dinner' ? What will you be telling the cafe? I'm not sure if anything changed, but read a old thread that disney restaurants only lets you do private dining for weddings if it's through DFTW? please call them (hotel) directly on that matter.
Also Michele might only be limited to Swan and Dolphin end of the business. As anything ON disney property is DFTW's territory. She'll probably just referral you to disney catering/bakery too.

the scenerio i'm thinking is to have group dining reservation. order cake from GF bakery. clear the table you're dining on and they set the cake there for cutting/serving.
was the wdw dine CM not helpful the first time? I would call back for another person until you get one that can actually help.

I would think you'd have to set it all up with the bakery and the resturant yourself. DFTW's isn't going to get involved because your not a customer of theres, and even if you were you'd propably fall into the intimate catagory, like me, so you'd be on your own anyway. What we did was we called the Yachtclub bakery and talked to the head pastry chef, and ordered our cake through him, to be delivered to Yachtsman Steakhouse the day of. Then we call the Steakhouse, and spoke to the manager, and told him we wanted to have our wedding dinner there for 12 people. We also let him know we had ordered a cake for the dinner, to be delivered to the resturant. He set it all up for us, menus, and all. After we finished eating we did the 'cutting' then the waiter took the cake to the back and cut up the bottom layer to serve, and boxed the top layer to take home (as we requested). There was enough cake for everyone to have a very generous slice.

I'm not sure how the Cafe would hadle it exactly, but they would be my first call, speak to the manager specifically. Followed by a call to the Grand bakery to talk to the head pastry chef there for a price, and to order. You would then have to call at 180 days to book the resturant with an adr.

Our cake cost around $175, and we preordered it with the bakery about 6 months out, but had to call back at about 2 or 3 weeks before I think to actually order it and pay for it, they couldn't process the order before that.

I hope this helps, feel free to PM me if you need any other information. And good luck with everything.

Okay. I just got off the phone with GF. I spoke to a manager directly and he said we could do everything through him, but we won't be able to do a separate cake cutting table. It would just be something small. Kind of disappointing but if that's what has to happen, that's fine. I would still rather do it at the Swan/Dolphin right outside where the ceremony is, but its too pricey. Why aren't people more willing to work with you??? Oh well.

Sounds like a good start Jess :thumbsup2
I'm sure they will work more with you with the right price lol...it's just how they do things.
We ate the cake at the ceremony site right after the wedding. simply because ceremony and dinner was long apart.

But in any case, it'll be wonderful at the GF cafe!

OT: if anyone in your party likes tea, be sure to ADR the afternoon tea in GF from 2~6pm.
