Grand Floridian Cafe - preplated buffet?

Someone said that GFC will have a preplated buffet for breakfast and dinner while the 1900 Fare is being rehabed. What exactly does preplated buffet mean? You don't get to choose off a menu?

It's not buffet at all. You do get to choose from a menu. Why they call it "Pre Plated" is beyond me. That makes it sound as if the food is sitting around on plates all day waiting to be served, LOL.

I don't know the breakfast menu, but with dinner you get a choice of appetizer and entree. Dessert is a plate of assorted mini desserts to be shared.

Is there any way to get a hold of the menu? Just to see what the choices are.

When I was making my ADRs, the CM I spoke to was able to tell me what was on the menu.

What is the time frame for this rehab? We are going to the GFC in September and didn't know about the preplated buffet. Now I'm not sure I want to keep our reservation.

I think it's the second week of July through the first week of October, I can't recall the exact dates.

I wonder if the characters from 1900 Park Fare will be there also. We're thinking of switching to Ohana's. What's your opinion on the both restaurants?

Yes, the characters will stay the same.

We like 'Ohana. It's not the best food ever, but it's good enough, and it's plentiful. The bread pudding dessert is absolutely delicious, and I don't normally even like bread pudding. We really like the atmosphere... noisy and fun. With kids we don't feel as if we're constantly trying to keep them quiet, plus they get to get up and hula, limbo, etc.

We're doing both dinners in September.
