We are thinking of trying Grand Floridian Cafe for a nice steak dinner one evening? Had lunch there in March and it was great.

Has anyone had dinner there before? How was the food and how was the service? You don't hear much about it but since it is at GF I assume it has to be pretty good!

we ate there in January & enjoyed it...click on my January review below in my signature for pictures & details.

It was AWESOME!!!! I've been a couple times and haven't had anything I didn't like.

We just went last month for dinner and loved it. I also have a review and pictures. The link is in my signature. :thumbsup2

Last Aug in the middle of Tropical Storm Fay we cancelled Epcot and grabbed whatever was open by our resort (Poly)...GFC was it and we were thrilled with our meal there...the service was top notch and the food was excellent! DH had the NY Strip and he loved it!

We are planning on going back for dinner in Dec on our check in day at the GF....

Thanks so much for teh great comments - we will go there! I forgot that this might be the perfect place to order a cake as well! The trip is a few days after my oldest's 19th and a few weeks before my youngest's 14th! Never had a cake from there!

That's good to hear. Disney dining called me Sunday and cancelled my reservations at Tony's on 9/25 because we weren't attending MNSSHP. The only other opening was at Grand Floridan Cafe so I took it. I wasn't sure because we've never eaten there but we wanted something on the monorail route cuz we're staying at Poly. These reviews are really encourgaing. yay! - thanks guys.

We had a great dinner there on Sept 4 and will definitely go again. Food and service were excellent.

I have one son who isn't a big eater and this was a day that we had also had a TS lunch. I thought that he would order the burger but he wasn't that hungry and really just wanted a caesar salad . We were prepared to pay for an appetizer salad when the waiter said that they would be able to do that as an entree (and did he want chicken added -- he did). When this happened last year at Coral Reef we had to pay for the salad and ended up with 1 TS credit that we didn't use.

Not a big deal either way but there was a nice 'Disney' feel for him be able to order the dinner he wanted that night.

The reason I booked the cafe was to get a GF bakery cake which we were quite excited about. It was a surprise for the 2 kids who celebrated birthdays while we were on vacation. Here's the link to the cake pictures if anyone is interested.

Love that cake - can you tell me about the type it was and frosting!

Underneath all the fondant, it was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. We specifically asked for the fondant because from pictures we had seen of other cakes they were able to put more detail on it with fondant rather than just regular icing.

Basically, we just asked for a 'Nightmare Before Christmas' themed cake with Jack and Zero and let the bakery be as creative as they liked. We were very happy with the results and couldn't even bring ourselves to cut into it until the next day!

What did you think of the taste of the fondant? I have heard some say they do not like it as well as buttercream or whipped.

Just to clarify, the chocolate icing (and I honestly don't know whether it was buttercream or whipped -- texture I would say was whipped because it was very light and fluffy but it tasted more like what I would call buttercream) was underneath the fondant.

I have heard (and this is what we did) that you peel the fondant off and eat the underlying icing and cake. I did try a bit of the fondant and I definitely wouldn't want it to replace the chocolate icing!

GF Cafe is a hidden gem at Disney. Great restaurant with an elegant setting for a casual restaurant with lots of choices.

Ah Ha! So it's like fondant is elegant clothes and you need to take off your clothes to get to the good stuff!:lmao:

Thank you for the feedback! I for sure will be heading there!
