Grand Cayman snorkeling

We want to snorkel while in Grand Cayman, but it seems that with some of the excursions, by the time you take a boat to a snorkeling location (or two), you don't have that much time of actual snorkeling. My kids asked me if there is a beach we could go to that has decent snorkeling that we could just walk out to from the beach. Does anyone know of such a beach? Otherwise, can anyone recommend a tour that has good snorkeling time? Thanks

We did this on our last trip to grand Cayman it was great! Used the resources below and asked our tour guide on the sting ray excursion where good spots were.

Immediately south of the 'downtown' area you'll find Eden Rock dive shop and its associated chunk of reef. This is a very popular snorkel and SCUBA site. A wee but farther down the road is Sunset House with similar conditions and less crowd because of the "long walk" ... 1/2 mile or so

Both places have on site dive shops which will rent gear for around $15

Both these locations are "big boy" snorkeling however. Water is too deep for standing. And there is no beach, this is iron shore area. There is no charge for snorkeling ....

Sunset House has the added attraction of My Bar, a VERY POPULAR place with the local crowd and highly recommended for lunch.

A wee bit further down the road is Smiths Cove. Here there is a small beach area with a couple of picnic tables and a simple restroom and shower. Good snorkeling can also be had here but there is no rental facility. On weekends this place is popular with the local folks as few cruisers will venture this far.

Another option is try Capt marvin. They were supposed to add a trip to accommodate DCL'S schedule. We used them in 2010 and have nothing but good things to say about them.
