Taking our son for first time to GC. We will definitely be doing the String Ray City tour, but would also like to spend a little time relaxing on 7 Mile Beach. Is it doable to do both? Any recommendations for resort or beach day pass to get lounge chairs for a couple of hours, where taxis are available so we can get back to the ship when ready? Hoping to squeeze it all in :beach:

There are lots of public beach areas along 7 Mile, but the one place that was nice for cruisers, the Royal Palms, has closed. The Margaritaville resort used to do day passes, but they have closed also. Because GC is not yet open for cruise ships, none of the day pass companies like Viator are showing any availability.

Captain Marvin's does a tour with stingray city and a beach lunch, but it is not on 7 Mile. They do have private tours, so you might be able to arrange something with them. https://www.captainmarvins.com/

It has been a couple of years but easy to recommend. Worth every penny.

I was trying to post a link and it wouldn’t go. New here and not sure of the rules and I do not want to violate. Search for Far Tortuga sting ray tour Grand Cayman..

We ended up booking a charter for just our family that took us to sting ray city, then a cool place for lunch on the beach and then an isolated exotic beach where we could snorkel more and just hang out. It was so awesome. Talk about getting it all in!

Best resort to relax at the beach: Royal Palms Grand Cayman. Only 2$ to get in, you can pre-book a cabana if you want. Easy transportation from and to the port.

Edit: I hear it's now closed... What a shame.

7 mile beach was the nicest beach I've ever been to, by far (and I've been to several...).

I don't know how long the Stingray City excursion takes, but 7-mile beach can be done on your own time, assuming you have a couple of hours or whatever.

I don't remember the specific details, but we just got in some taxi or bus near the port, went a ways down the beach and got out at some random point - no resort or anything special. We found a spot on the beach, and at some point a couple of local guys came by who had chairs and umbrellas they offered to set up for us for a not-outrageous price. They also had a cooler of drinks and box of snacks they'd sell. I got the impression they were far from the only ones doing this - lots of people up and down the beach had inflatables out in the water you could pay to play on, also, and I think that different guys had different sections of the beach that they handled with chairs and umbrellas. And, it wouldn't have been too far a walk from our spot on the beach (we wanted a less crowded area) to a bar/restaurant. It was perfect for our family, and very low-stress. When we were ready to go back, we didn't have any trouble getting a ride back, either (but I worried more there, since there wasn't a stand or anything nearby). Had we gone down to one of the bars (with much bigger crowds) I think we could have gotten a taxi even more easily.

Grand Cayman is closed to all cruises until next year at the earliest. Currently, only Caymanians, workers and property owners are they only ones allowed to come on island. There is also a 5 day mandatory quarantine once you arrive on island.
