Does anyone know if it is legal to bring beer back from Grand Cayman? And if so how do you get it back to the ship? I heard somewhere that you can't carry it with you back to the ship, is that so?
I have 2 guys that I work with that love to try beer from other places and different flavors so I would like to bring them one back from there.
thanks

I don't think there is any problem with bringing back alcohol from Grand Cayman. The restriction is that you can't buy "Duty free" alcohol on Grand Cayman and carry it back onto the ship. The Cayman gov't restricts "duty free" sales to alcohol that is delivered by the duty free shop directly to the ship and DCL does not accept such deliveries (I think it is a security issue).

As long as you pay full price (which includes the Cayman gov't taxes) then you can carry it on board with you.

Entering the USA again, there are restrictions on how much alcohol you can bring in without paying duty. These restrictions are pretty low quantities (our gov't wants their taxes too!) but the actually cost of the duty isn't too bad. Last year we purchased alcohol in Cozumel (I think 3 or 4 bottles) and the duty was only $1 or $2 and the custom's agent just waived it. I believe that is common practice if the duty is very low. For details on the duty you might be able to find it at the US Custom's Office website.

I hope that helps,

When we were on the Magic we were not allowed to bring any alcohol..absolutely none..back on the ship from grand cayman. Store owners wouldn't even sell to us once they found out we were on the Magic.

Now, come to find out..if you bought your alcohol at the little tiny house looking shop right at the dock..you could bring it on board with you, because customs is right there.

Do you know if they have beer that is made in Grand Cayman?
I am interested in the Microbrewry beer that is on GC.

I think they have beer that's called Stingray Beer that is made on Grand Cayman. It has a neat looking label but it wasn't too tasty.

I read about that one, so you didn't like it?

Stingray beer is very good, for those of you who appreciate a good beer.

You can find it at Rackams, oceanside, a short walk down from the dock.

Enjoy!

There is Stingray..brewed in Grand Cayman, and then there is Big Bamboo, a little closer to the dock than Rackhams. It serves 5 (I think) microbrews brewed there...all very, very good.
