Grand Canyon lodging?

We (my whole extended family) booked rooms at El Tovar 13 months before our trip. We went in July a few years ago, which was peak season. A couple of times we walked over to Maswick Lodge to eat at the food court and pizza place there. It’s a short walk. We also ate at the restaurants inside El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge. Wherever you stay, be sure to have drinks one afternoon sitting in the rocking chairs on the El Tovar porch.

We stayed in a wonderful retro Air BnB in Williams in 2018. It's about an hour drive to the Grand Canyon, but we liked the town.
If I couldn’t stay in the park, I’d stay in Williams. There’s actually things to do there. As mentioned, you can take the train in to the rim one day and the drive is only an hour by car.

We stayed and the el Tovar and loved it and it had a great on site restaurant too. Xanterra manages all the hotels in the national parks. You typically need to book a year ahead of your planned trip or keep checking for cancellations.
El Tovar is where I always wanted to stay. Incredible restaurants and location on the rim.

We stayed at yavapai lodge. It was fine and convenient. I would try to find something inside the park if you can. Watch for cancellations. It’s worth it.

I was just at Yavapai Lodge in April ( before the post pandemic vacation surge). I would stay again. The room was small, but updated and clean. The location to viewing areas is good. I've stayed outside the official park before to save some $ and loved Yavapai being inside the GC and close to parking lots. For very able bodied persons you could just start your day from the lodge. There is a large "store" on site that has all the tourist type merchandise, along with all kinds of hiking items and then there is the grocery store portion that has plenty of options. I've only been to GC in the spring (Mar and this trip APR) and AC was never a thought but HEAT was!

We were there in may a couple years ago. From what I remember the AC kicked in once in a while and kept it from feeling stuffy. My husband isn’t a windows open kind of guy so I was glad we chose an ac room. I agree, parking was plentiful and the shuttle stopped right there. I was sick for a day or so and was glad to be in a comfortable, quiet room. The workers were nice too
