Grand Californian ? TOO TACKY? HELP!

We have booked at Paradise Pier and will be there in 5 days. Has anyone every tried upgrading your hotel by simply going there and asking if they have any rooms availabe at the same rate you currently are paying? I'm contemplating on going to the Grand Californian around 12:00am Monday morning and asking if we can switch hotels for the same rate. Am I being too cheap?

My guess is that it will be tough due to conventions. I'd shoot for Concierge upgrade instead.

P.S. How much you paying. Travelscape has rooms at PP for $120 (we'll both be there on Monday.)

stlrod - Yes, a few days ago I re-booked on expedia.ocm and got the $120.00 per night also. How long are you there? We'll be leaving 6/14/01 am.
