This is a happy story:
My sister made cash reservations for a std view room at the Grand Californian for her first 3 nights, but was unable to get all 6 nights because they were sold out. I checked with member services and found her last 3 nights were available on points, but the only view that was available at the time of the reservation was DTD view. So, we made the ressie for her....
She checked in last night and explained that she had two reservations. The CM who checked her in told her that since she had an upgraded room for the latter part of her stay, she would have to check out and check back in. My sister was of course, expecting that they would have to do that, but the CM told her--just a minute, she wanted to check on something. She went away and came back a few minutes laters and said they could have the same upgraded DTD view for the entire stay! How cool is that?
None of my family has ever stayed in anything other than a Std view room, so my sister was telling me about it. She said they could see the fireworks from her room at night and they are keeping the door open to the balcony because there is music playing from DTD (I guess it is live music ?) and they are really enjoying it. She thanked me again for getting her the room on points and what a stroke of luck she had on check in. (It made me feel pretty good that I could get her the room for part of the stay on points

We check in on Sunday, but we only have a Std room. (We have always enjoyed staying in a Std room, but I don't know if my sister's experience might cause me to want to book DTD next time! )
