Grand California Villas

This must mean the wing is going right up to Disneyland Drive, and may be a little bigger than first thought.

It's exciting to hear of all the changes coming to the DLR, DVC, new rides for both parks and a new show. I haven't been this excited about DL in quite a while, it will be fun to watch over the next couple of years.

I am at the GC right now and my view is of what I think used to be the self parking lot, but now is a pile of dirt. There are a couple of machines out there. I am actually bummed that I wasted extra points for this view.

The bellman said they were told that a 250 room building is going up there and will take 2 years to construct. They were speculating that it would be DVC, but they had not been informed as of yet.

I have pics I will upload later.

Sorry to hear the view isn't so nice right now, but we are hearing that the view from the new DVC will be spectacular. The DVC balconies at GC will have the best seats in the resort for viewing "World Of Color" in the lagoon at DCA.
And did you say 250 rooms? We have heard of only 50 DVC units, but then again, no one really knows how tall the DVC extension is going to be.

Pictures would be great. I was actually debating the 1 1/2 hour drive to get pics tomorrow. If you post them that will be a trip saved for me. Thanks!

I believe 50 units was the initial plan, but because of much higher than anticipated demand for GC DVC, they scrapped the 50 unit plan (and scrapped the GC DVC announcement that was to take place earlier this year) for a much more extensive DVC addition. That's the word on the street anyway...you know how those things get circulated around.;)

here ya go:

Yep, I was told 250 - but I heard it from the bellman so who knows? These will definately have great views, they will be so close to CA. I was also told there will be another pool and that there will be 1st floor rooms ( the GC currently does not have any rooms on the ground floor).

So, do I understand right that there has been no official announcement from DVC that they are building at the GC.

Probably like how they are not building a DVC at the Contemporary at DW.

Of course I haven't been on these dvc boards in ages, so I have no clue what is going on. We were at WDW in March and all CM's we spoke with said that they hadn't announced the DVC unit officially at contemporary because they had to wait on land tests. Something about them being so close to the water or something to that effect.

It will be great to have a DVC closer to home. Going to Orlando every year gets expensive.

Great pics ,thanks for sharing them.
I am surprised that they didn't put up construction walls at that end of the pool.

Great Pics! I cannot believe what has happened in only a week! I got on Google Maps and measured from 900 ft elevation both the building foot print of the New Villas at the GCH, and the BCV. Although they have a diffent configuration, the size of the two building is comparible. I would not be suprised to find about 200 rooms avaliable for sale (BVC has 208 units).

Thanks for the pics! The project seems to be moving along at a quick pace. I feel Feb or March 2008 trip coming on so we can see what's happenning.

I tried these gates on our last visit. They are always locked, so I think that is why they did not bother to build a wall there.

Thanks for the great pics!

We're going to DL late October into early November, staying at the Paradise Pier in an upper floor themepark view room, which also turns out to be a GC DVC construction view room too.:goodvibes

I'll take some pictures of the construction area from our room and post them to keep you updated on the progress. I know it's only a couple months away, but still it might be fun to see how much progress is made 2 months from now.:thumbsup2

Wow-thanks for the pictures! It's so exciting to see that things are really moving along. I've got a friend who is going to be staying at the Grand Californian in three weeks- I'm going to ask her to take LOTS of pictures for us. I'm also hoping that Darkbeer over on Mouseplanet and Miceage will start taking regular photos too.

Yep, the local websites seem to ignore the DVC part of DLR.
