Hi

FOr anyone who has stayed concierge at GC - is it worth it? I am debating whether to get a Park view non-concierge room, or a garden view concierge. I've never stayed concierge anywhere - is it really enough food to be breakfast and lunch or is it just snacks?

Thanks!

Never done it myself but I've read over and over again that most people don't feel that it's worth it just for the food. It's mainly snacks they offer.

I've done Concierge at the DLH (which is a cheaper upgrade than GCH, I think). While it was nice, it definitely was not worth the extra money. You would have to stay in the lounge and eat all day long to come close to making up the difference in cost. If money is no object, go for it. I would choose the park view, if I were you!

I think it depends on your appetite.....for my family it is enough for breakfast and dinner, if we have a big lunch.......but you never will justify it just on food unless you are a big family.

I would opt for the park view room over garden view w/concierge in a heartbeat.

Have a great trip :goodvibes

Thanks for the unanimous input! Going for the parkview and just buy a bottle of wine for the room!

We use to stay concierge but not anymore. I just don't see the value of it. There aren't many other perks as far as service goes or a better room. The last time we went to DL we had water, fruit, cereal and milk delivered to our room from Albertsons. It was all waiting there when we checked in. You can also buy a light breakfast right downstairs at White Water snacks or on your way into the park at La Brea.

Have a great trip!

You know that you can set up food and drinks to be delivered to the room. If you call Vacation Planning at 714-300-7526 (Lauren and Barbara are really great people to ask for), they will email you a copy of what things are available. We had balloons and cookies put in the room for our kids, and they kept saying how Mickey had sneaked into our room to leave it. IMHO, this is a much more economical way to get just what you want. Have fun!

We stayed here a few weeks ago, no concierge, with a park view room and it was awesome! I've also heard that it's not worth it to get concierge, unless you plan to stay at the hotel the entire time, will you get your money's worth.

But definitely get a park view if you can! It's so lovely at sunrise/sunset!

I have stayed in every view and I like theme park views but right now with DVC construction it isn't worth is unless you request a Grizzly River view. I would prefer the DTD view as I like to people watch and hear the music :) Also you may be lucky and get a room where you can see the fireworks! I happen to like concierge and stay that level whenever we can but it's you own personal preference. If you are trying to justify it by eating enough food you wont, it isnt a buffet it's just snacks and beverages. Either way staying at the GCH was a great choice! I see you are a fan of the VWL at WDW so you will love GCG! Enjoy your trip! :)

So..Concierge is just extra snacks? The room is the same? I htought they had suites..one bedrooms..things like that. How do you find out about the bigger rooms? I didn't see them on the site.

There are suites and such at the GCH, but not necessarily concierge. There are pictures and info HERE

We've been staying at the Resort Hotels for many years now and remember when Concierge was included when you stayed in a suite. It was worth it then and we have added concierge to some of our trips since then, but really don't think it is worth it anymore.

We stayed concierge at the Grand Californian for three nights in December on DVC points. My Mom and Sis were with us so we had two rooms -- it was a real point burner almost double per room from what we would usually "pay." I had developer points so I was okay with that because I love GC and wanted to see what concierge was like.

Compared to concierge at AKL the offerings were smaller and the lounge was smaller. Being a dedicated Disboarder and someone who has been going to DL for more than 40 years, I didn't need any help with planning or priority seating or any tour booking, etc.

The staff were wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. Called in the morning to tell you the weather, reminded you of PS, etc. For the most part, the lounge staff was very good and the food offerings were okay. There were breakfast items in the morning, fruit and little sandwiches in the afternoon, hor d'oeuvres and snacks in the evening. The food offerings alone would not make me do concierge. If there was anything there from Napa Rose, I did not recognize it.

We all enjoyed watching the fireworks from the balcony the last night that we were there -- which was a Friday -- so we could avoid the crowds. You can have liquers and wine at night. They are served by the glass by the staff.

We had a great time and were glad that we tried concierge at the Grand Californian but as a group we decided that we would rather not spend the points and next time would get a bigger villa, etc. which will be open by the next time we all go to DL. We will, however, all be staying concierge at AKL for a few days on Christmas 2009 and were happy to spend the points.

That was our concierge experience. I guess whether it is worth the splurge depends on what you hope to get out of the concierge level. Have fun planning!

I'm not so much interested in the Concierge points but wonder what the points are for suites..any idea? Or are they not offered with points?

yes, they are. If you call MS they should have the points info for 1BR, 2 BR GCH suites. I believe they are pretty high. Quite a bit higher than the VGC points chart. Can you post some value if you get them?
