Gramma jinxed disney on spring break! PARTING THOUGHTS 06/15/09

Well look at that - it was so nice you just had to say it twice! :rotfl2:

Fun report Tammie - so glad the entire fam was together and getting along!

Thanks Kara! I had no idea it posted twice! Ha! I was having alot of trouble getting the title to update - I see the 2nd one has the whole story - the first one is missing part. Who knows?

You know, I have wide feet in the front, and narrow heels, so I can't really wear thick socks. I have tried the ones with padded bottoms, but I had flat feet as a child, then corrective shoes, then fallen arches later, so the arches in shoes always seem wrong to me. Thanks, though.

Yah, good thing they didn't have "scratch and sniff" penquins!:rotfl2:
gotcha

i would be up for a scratch and sniff board at the animal exibits i would smell em
:goodvibes

My husband used to live in Gresham Oregon when he was a kid. He loves the Northwest.

Thanks! It is really pretty. And really far from WDW.:goodvibes

I need to remember that phrase. Jim is trying to tell me that I never informed him in advance about which street we would be turning on - the whole trip! He had to teach me all about it after his trip to Texas:thumbsup2

Hey there, I suscribed to your trippie a couple of days ago! I just need to get caught up.....

Old Spaghetti Factory visitor!!! Okay, the answer to my last mystery about the "roamer" in Old Spaghetti Factory goes like this:

The manager came to our table at the end of the meal to ask how our meal was. I told him we had to know about that guy. He said that actually, he was with a large party in another room and after consuming way too many adult beverages, he started to wander and be a nuisance. They had told the people to keep him with them or they would throw him out, because he was freaking the customers out.

So, my mystery was not as fun as we imagined, but now we know. Kara - you were right - he could very well be consuming massive amounts of Doritos with Allyson Wonderland!:hippie:

I'll be back later with our first Disney travel day!:cool1:

i was hoping they were going to say what man, an no one else saw him and he was a restaurant ghost, then he would look at you from across the restaurant as you say that guy right there, i see him, and poof he would dissapear into thin air.

:goodvibes

but i guess the drunk man story is a little more convincing.

Sunday, March 23rd

Okay, let's get going to Disney! We had a 7:20 am flight, so we said goodbye to the kids early and headed for bed.

Our 4am alarm went off, and I jumped out of bed with no problem, we were going to Disney!!:yay::yay::yay: We found the long term parking under construction, but we managed to figure it out and got in to the terminal plenty early. We got checked in fine. Our bags weighed 42.5 and 42.0 - I don't think I've every done it that well! We found a Starbucks and sat down for a little while, then headed through security uneventfully.

I had booked an aisle seat and a window seat, hoping that there wouldn't be anyone in the middle - it works most of the time :) This time we had a teenage girl with us who was happy to trade for the window seat. Here family was across the aisle - her brother was playing baseball at Disney's WWS for his high school. They live about 3 hrs away from us in the same type community, so we felt like friends right away! On the second flight, same seats, same family, only we sat with the Dad - when he saw us coming, he just smiled and moved over.

I have to go, but next: Trouble in Paradise already:?

We landed a little early - 6:55 pm! We were excited, because our original itinerary said 7:50. Our bags came out quickly and we were off to Budget to get our SUV! I had gotten a great deal on the Budget Board here on the DIS.

We waited in line for about 15 minutes. They have our ressie, Jim pulls out his credit card and I.D. and everything comes to a halt. Apparently his card was denied! :scared1: Now this is the card we paid off with our "Disney money." The card we planned to use for our room charges and souvies and car rental. :rolleyes1

I had called the credit union to be sure there would be no problems and had been assured everything would be fine. You feel like such a chump with all those people waiting behind you... I pulled out my card - he says, "are you sure you want to do that? If I get a 2nd card denied, I can't rent you a car tonight. I don't want to ruin your vacation. You might want to call your bank - What? on Sunday night? I called the 1-800 number and they couldn't help me because it was for a credit union!

I brought the gentleman my debit card and got the same thing - "are you sure this will go through?" While there is another guy at the counter. I was so embarrassed!

I said, "don't worry. This one will go through!" "Are you sure, because if a 2nd card is denied, I can't rent you a car tonight." Very thick Mid-East accent BTW. What? :confused3 You need a card to rent a car. If you don't put it through, I will stand here all night? :confused3 I have no idea what the expected response should be.

My response: "that's okay, I'll just get on the Disney bus!" The guy next to me started laughing. Oh, and Jim - standing off by himself with the bags, pretending like he didn't know me. He was thinking, "I told you so." About putting our vacation $$ on that card!:rotfl:

So 10 minutes later we were pulling away in a Hyundi SUV. Very nice and comfy! We had our GPS plugged in and our "troll bridge money" ready.

We had now burned up our "early arrival." So The GPS gets us almost there on a side street, then loses the signal. Nice. One of the things that happens is that the GPS says in .3 miles, turn Right. So Jim turns immediately!!!! We battled that tendency all trip! He will tell you its my fault because I didn't tell him the name of the road, but I did - he has selective hearing after 32 years together - He can't hear anything I say except, "dinner's ready" or "you're going to get lucky." :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

So on the in ".1 mile turn right" cue, he turns into the parking lot for another resort - Del Sol or something. After a few choice words, we get onto the right street - Broadway I think. Now we are to turn left into the Resort - yep, there it went on the left. We turn further up in to the golf course entrance and make it up to the Carriage Houswe for check in. :headache: I'm sorry, but if a sign says, Saratoga Springs Resort next left, wouldn't you turn there?:confused3

In his defense, we seemed to have conflicting signs all over the world, like, "Animal Kingdom right lane." Then 50 ft up the road, "Animal Kingdom next left!" :confused3

We head for check in, its now 9pm. There are about 6 families waiting to check in, but we are the lucky ones, we already checked in online, so we can go right to the "ONLINE CHECK-IN" line - express, right? OOPS, there's no CM at that station! There is another guy waiting, so I get behind him. A CM comes over and tells him to go to the next available open station, then tells me to get to the back of the line! Hey! "sorry, we don't have anyone assigned to the express check-in." Nice. I was tired and a little grumpy. I rolled my eyes.

So it was my turn very quickly - had the same CM - she apologized for the wait, and I apologized for my 'tude. We were friends again! I got exactly what I wanted - Congress park wth DTD view! Troubles over! (sort of)

Here is a pic of our view:

We had a corner room, 2nd floor right around the corner from a side entrance that led to the pool and to DTD! Loved our location!

I loved this little window off the balcony, and the details on the other buildings:

We got in to our room - it was clean and beautiful as usual, with the exception of the carpet that was worn and dirty. I am a little disappointed that they let it get so bad - we do pay dues for maintenance.

I didn't take any more of the inside - we have those at home and I didn't remember right away - our stuff was all over the place. If anyone wants pics of the bed or bathroom, I can post from our 2007 trip.

We went to Artist's Pallette before our room to get our first CS meal - flatbread pizza. I, like Cammie, was very disappointed - I had loved this before. It wasn't good at all this time. We got some large sized yogurt parfaits for dessert and saved them for breakfast, as well as bottled water for later. We bought the refillable mugs and filled them up with soda for our dinner.

After settling in our room, we thought we might head down to the hot tub. Before we got our suits on we went to check it out - it was a little chilly outside so we wanted to be sure it was hot. Well, there was a private party going on in the hot tub! There were about 8 adults in there smoking cigars and drinking beer. pirate: Their children were having a great time in the pool. We decided to let them have their fun - we would have only spent a few minutes out there anyway.

I went out on our balcony wrapped in a blanket and tried to just enjoy the view and the fact that I was in WDW!!!

One of the private partiers promptly came over with his cigar and parked right underneath me and made a phone call. I loudly announced that I would put up with the cigars tonight, but not again, and went in. We were pretty tired and we had RD at Epcot in the morning, so we turned in early for Disney Dreams!

Next: The Jinx Begins!
