ok everyone, what GPS running watch do you use? and opinions and thoughts do you have on a good GPS watch that will NOT break the bank...
I am NOT looking for a fancy shmancy one just looking for a basic one that will tell me miles, pace, average pace and do intervals
calories i am not too interested in but if it does it fine....

TIA Danielle:thumbsup2

I have a Garmin 410, although I haven't actually used it yet, as I'm still running on the treadmill. :o Keep an eye on the Amazon gold box for deals though on GPS watches (not necessarily this particular one, just in general). That is where I got mine. It was on sale for $149.99.

I had a Garmin for a while but found it wasn't what I wanted so I sold it and got a Timex. I have been happy with my purchase :goodvibes

Yeah something like the Timex Ironman easy trainer GPS watch sounds like what you're looking for,it just does the basics, miles, pace and has interval timers.

To a large extent it depends what you want to do with it - but the basic Garmin model (the forerunner 10) is only about $120 and I found it to be a great first GPS watch.

If you want to read some really detailed reviews of every possible GPS watch on the market, check out a blog called DC Rainmaker (I found his stuff fantastic for making a decision on which to buy). It is really comprehensive.

I like my forerunner 10.

I *wanted* a Motorola product, but it discontinued JUST as I was about to buy it! So sad.

I have a Garmin 10 now. I bought it used (refurbished) so it was less expensive than a new one--actually my husband bought it for me and I think he paid around $70.

Prior to this, I had the Garmin 305. It definitely gave more information than the Garmin 10, and was also a lot bigger and bulkier.

I purchased a TomTom Runner (not one I'd even really heard about) (around $150 on Amazon) based on a review on The WireCutter. My post count is too low to include a URL (I've been lurking here for years... :rolleyes1 ). Try googling The WireCutter and Best GPS Running Watch. Should be the first result.

Price was a bigger issue than lots of functions I knew I wouldn't use. The software issues the article references seem to have been addressed in subsequent updates. I have been really happy with it!

I have the Garmin 10. I like it. I found it really easy to use straight out of the box. Honestly, I bought a cheap Timex and never could figure it out. I bought mine at Target. The 10 has all the functions you want. The only downside is limited battery life I think it is only around 4 or 5 hours.

Battery life is definitely limited on the 10. Mine died this year in DHS soon after I hit the 5 hour mark. Made me mad that I had no record of the course I ran.

Last year I was debating between the 10 and the 220...ultimately I went with the 220 for various reason, and the biggest one was to get the longer battery life (the 220 is supposed to get 8 hours).

Garmin just came out with the Forerunner 15 ($169 vs. $129 for the 10). It's very similar to the 10, but with a few more features...including an 8-hour battery life vs. 5 hours with the 10.

If you scroll down there is a "Product Comparison Table" that is pretty helpful - the features of the 15 and the 10 are right there, side-by-side.

Watch looks good but battery life is the only reason I don't own it.

Are the GPS watches more accurate then the GPS running apps for iPhone? I recently discovered that runkeeper can be more then a mile off on long runs and mapmyrun (the app, not planning a run on a computer) is off by maybe half a mile. Kind of a big deal if you are training for a marathon? Anyway, just wondering if anyone knows.

I did a 10 mile run the other day and used my GPS watch and mapmyrun on my phone, mapmyrun was about .10 of a mile more than my watch. Not enough of a difference for me to stress about it.If it was half a mile or more that would have been a big deal.

Interesting. I was finding that the phone apps were short rather then long. Like I ran 11 miles on a marked path and runkeeper told me I'd run 13.5 miles. My pace was pretty awesome according to runkeeper
