Hello
I will be bringing my GPS with us (VDO PN2050) when we go to Disneyland for our trip in May. I would like to know what mapping software should I use.
We will have car hire for 14 days and will be going to the other parks and sightseeing as well.
Thanks

I use a Garmin in my travels which is pre-loaded with Navteq. I am not familiar with your brand. Much as I travel sometimes I would not go anywhere without it. Yes I can still read a map.

Have you considered renting a GPS from the car rental agency? They would already have the region and points of interest for the area.

We have Magellans (we do geocaching) and use MapSend for our street routes. We had to create and upload the region when we went to DL so it would give us turn by turn directions but it's not difficult.

You might be able to find some geocachers that are familar with your unit by checking out some geocaching sites. I'll also ask a friend of ours from Australia if she knows anything about your kind of unit or if she knows of anybody that may be able to answer your question.

Hi Darren123 - We discovered a couple of choices - we're also coming from Australia. We will be hiring from Hertz and they offer a GPS for about $12/ day, and Avis was similar charge. I also had a look at US Target and Walmart and found they sell basic units for around US$150-$200.

Many of the GPS companys sell maps to go onto your unit. For example, we have a Navman and we can purchase all of US and Canada for about AU$240. You may want to visit the Australian website for the manufacturer and check out what they have.

We're currently thinking of purchasing the US maps for the Navman, that way we are used to how it works, the voice, etc.

An extra thought - Do you have a Windows based GPS? Try http://forums.gpscity.com/ for US based forums on GPS units, maps, and software.

yeah, you should call the manufactor as I have a PSP attachment GPS. This one uses Google Maps nad MSN maps...

Thank you all for your help
I was able to get some help and got a map for my GPS
Yes I did consider renting one from the car rental company
when you times the rental by how many days car hire it does add
up to a bit of money and cheaper to buy a cheap unit instead
