Government shutdown - flights?

TSA was as much a problem as ATC at both Houston airports the last few days.

OK. Not my point though. TSA could have a lot of delays, but as long as the flight crew (assuming they're originating at an airport) gets through, TSA delays won't affect people connecting through an airport.

TSA lines in IAH were up to 3 hours on Sunday, but much shorter today. Of course Tuesdays are light travel days.

Starting to get nervous about next week. Flight from NY to MCO is at 830 pm. I'm sure the delays and chances of cancellation get longer as the time gets later. Long delay just means no sleep before waking up extra early Thursday for early entry. Cancellation would throw everything off because it is only a two-day trip and we already bought tickets, lightning lanes and booked two nights on premises, then one night off.

Considering burning another vacation day and paying the money to fly 12 hours earlier in the hopes it is less crazy earlier in the day.

Can you provide details? Are you talking length of security lines or flight delays?

I am not sure that was actually true (the 161 minute delay at MCO due to closing the tower). I was in Orlando at that time and all the local news stations reported a major prolonged power outage at MCO, and that caused delays and stoppages. They showed people walking the route and hauling their luggage with them on the path that the airport monorail normally travels. They were not running due to having no power. Everyone was walking on the cement pathway that runs between the monorails that take you to and from the terminals. Once power was restored, flights were resumed. Now could it have been both? No idea, I was too busy to pay too much attention to it. I had no issues flying on 10/28 or 11/4.

Take the shutdown out of it. I'm assuming a flight from NY to MCO is ~3 hours. So you're landing around 11:30P. By the time you get to the resort and settled, 1AM at least. AND you want to do EE that morning?

You don't say how much it would be to do the earlier flight, but I would put some SERIOUS thought into it.

We flew on 11/4 from SEA to MCO with no issues. My DD and family fly out on 11/8 same flight and we are a little concerned with the latest developments. No plan B as it is a 4 plus day drive. So Hopefully it all workout, May have to do a bit of dynamic replanning.

Well crud. Flight cuts starting Friday. We fly home at 7:30 am, hope they tell us before we leave for airport.

Also, there are about 7 flights out to home each day, not including flights with a stop.

So hopefully we'd get out on one of them Friday!

Question for those traveling to Disney during the next few weeks, into November too.

Are you altering any plans yet? There doesn't seem to be an end in sight to this shutdown and it's only going to get worse for air travel.

Are you just keeping things as is? Taking a chance flights will be okay? Driving? Having anxiety like me?

We have tickets to Jollywood & non-refundable flights.
If the airlines give us the option to reschedule, we'll probably push our trip to Jan/Feb.
We'll probably take a lost on the Jollywood tickets since we purchased through a 3rd party but that's okay.
We were only going for the weekend to do Jollywood so driving down isn't an option for such a short trip

We fly down tomorrow morning. Trying to decide what to do. We have connecting flights through ATL so two shots at a disruption each way. Even if tomorrow's flights aren't cancelled the return flights might be, and we won't know until after we leave. We're only going for the long weekend so driving is out of the question.

I'm not sure what we'll do. I don't want to spend all weekend worrying about our flights on Tuesday. We're DVC so cancelling screws up the points but I'm leaning toward cancelling. First world problems and all that, but I'm really disappointed -- we were (are) celebrating 40 years together. I wouldn't blame the controllers for walking out completely though. Who works for free? for a month? I know I wouldn't.

I've given myself until 8am to decide. Gotta cancel before work ramps up for the day if that's what we decide to do.

Home airport SEA and MCO are on the list, Delta has aircraft that just flys this route so no waiting on a plane to show up from another airport. So Fingers crossed that this route will be ok. No way to know.

Congress seems to always get things done while in crisis mode. I'm sure the airline execs will explain that this is a crisis. Federal employees already are in crisis. DW worked at SSA during a shutdown. We were ok, but others still had commute expenses, day care, rent, etc. It was really hard on them. What a total cluster.

This is the most disgusting part to me. They don’t care that tens of thousands of federal workers are in crisis without paychecks, millions of Americans without food assistance are in crisis or that millions of Americans are headed into crisis over health insurance. But let some millionaire airline or other industry CEOs start complaining & all of a sudden a compromise can be worked out. It’s not about average Americans…it’s always about the big money.

Yeah my husband flies out this afternoon to Vegas, his flight back home is Saturday late afternoon arriving in the evening

I don't know what his flights are next week to Idaho but they go through Denver

Today is our last day, we come home tomorrow. Not up for a fun day if we don't know how we are getting home! We miss our cat, want to pick him up. if we are delayed too long he will have to stay for the weekend again as they are closed Saturday and Sunday.
