As a government employee (not military) I can get a government rate at many hotels, not Disney or Universal according to them. Has anyone used a government rate staying on site or close by. Thanks

Check out the Swan and Dolphin. Great hotels within walking distance of Epcot and MGM/AKA Hollywood Studios. You will also want to look at the Downtown Disney hotels, Doubletree, Hilton, and other chain hotels in the DTD area that regularly have government rates. My experience has sometimes shown a higher government rate because this is standardized to per diem rates. So, always check and also get the "best rate" by calling the hotel directly.

I've gotten a government discount at the Dolphin, the Holiday Inn Express Lake Buena Vista, and at a Marriott nearby. Just check their site online and it's pretty easy to find out if it's available for your dates. At peak seasons there is rarely a government discount available.

WDW did offer military rates a couple of months ago but the timeframe was very limited. This is something they do on a rare occasion. Also, the discount available at Swan/Dolphin will probably only appeal to you if you were planning on staying in a deluxe category or higher. If you're looking at a value or moderate, you can probably obtain a better price by taking advantage of any promos being offered by Disney.

Swan and Dolphin offer government discount..be it Federal, State or local. ;)

What do you need to show to get the discount? Badge? Pay stub?

I stayed at the Doubletree with a government rate a few years ago. They required ID but you did not have to be on official business. Which I clearly was not. :lmao:

My son has both a badge and a police ID card I would think it's good to have both if you have them. He's not stayed at the Swan or Dolphin yet..but has used his government ID at other hotels..and sometimes they don't even ask for it upon check in, and sometimes they do. It's just a matter of who you get at the desk. Of course he always has both on him.;) I'd think they'd want the ID in addition to the badge..as either can be forged..a pay stub might be a good thing to bring along also. I would call the resort directly and ask exactly what it is they require upon check in for the government discount. I do know that it's for fed, state, or local government. Police are part of your local government.
