Gotta stop reading the dis

Because it is full of the most judgmental, entitled people ever. Just reading it I have learned that my kids:
are not entitled to go to school with "normal kids" because they will drag them down.
Should wait in bus lines like everyone else and if there are people who are sitting where wheelchairs go then too bad, they should just wait for the next bus (or the one after that)
Get front of the line acess all of the time (too bad no one told us)

I have learned that I:
Use a wheelchair as a battering ram to get where I want to go
Run over people all of the time while they are innocently just walking
Feel entitled to get extras
Should use politically correct terms which change on a daily basis
Shouldn't mind that people find it humorous to joke about disabilities

My kids' crimes are that 6yo DDs birth mom chose to drink and use drugs the whole bloody pregnancy and 5yo DSs parents beat the snot out of him at 2 months of age.

I fully expect to be flamed, shut down (maybe even see the thread zapped) and possibly banned but some of you are self-centered children who won't think beyond your own little world.

Why would you leave anyplace where you have learned so much :confused3?

I almost forgot your sign:

That's a two way street there. Here you are sitting in judgment (and name calling) and condemning the entire DIS community. And why does anyone need to take your personal needs/life into consideration if you aren't willing to do the same?

Just take care of yourself and your own and don't worry about everyone else, because you can't possibly know what anyone else's life is like and what their problems are (and vice versa) or expect them to make special considerations for you.

Couldn't agree more.

Okay, I'll admit it. I don't understand your reply. Can you either PM me or put it in terms for a perimenopausal mind that is on overdrive could understand.:yay:. Thanks.

I agreed with you with a noted exception. I probably shouldn't have quoted you.

So is this a YAGE? :confused3

Sure sounds like it. I pulled a YAGE a few months ago when I felt like I was being overflamed for an issue with my teenagers. I left, lurked awhile. Someone on here (can't remember who) told me to thicken up my skin and that's stuck with me. I'm not gonna say I won't get upset in the future. But I can understand where the OP is coming from. There are some on here that I should put on ignore, but I haven't. Some days it's just too much to take. But I'm doing a whole lot better now.

I have posted on many boards. I like the Dis, but agree with the OP in this regard - the posters in this forum are a nasty group. They will go on personal fact finding missions to discredit a poster with whom they disagree. They will dig back through previous posts looking for any ammo they can find instead of dealing with the points made by a poster directly. That is against forum rules, but it happens in many, many threads.

In reality, it isn't the posters that are the problem - it is the complete lack of moderation. Mods only jump in when a post is reported. It has proven to be completely ineffective and has resulted in broad subjects having to be removed from discussion altogether.

It's probably senseless to monitor every thread 'n if no one is reportin' posts, why would they jump in?

Okay, well, the DIS apparently isn't for you. I'm sure you can find another site that you like better. No need to announce your withdrawal though. You can just stop posting and reading.

The big thing about the Dis I learned about a year in. DON'T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY .. You don't know these people , who gives a rat's behind what a stranger behind a computer thinks. I have made amazing close friends here , that I see often. I have learned so much . The dis boards can be a fun and sometimes educational board to be on. Learn to appreciate that side of it and close out a thread if it upsets you , giggle to yourself, call them an ugly name and move on . Life is too short to take any message board on the computer so seriously .

But where is the melodrama in that?

Moderators should monitor every thread and jump in any time the site rules are violated. They should also throw out reminders to stay civil if they see a thread headed in the wrong direction. Anyone who has ever moderated a board knows how simple it is - but it requires active mods. People who log in and read the threads. Mods usually come from the general population of posters. They are the more "level headed" and can be counted on to apply the site rules fairly.

This isn't rocket science. It is being done well in countless forums right now.

Actually, it can serve a valid purpose - pointing out issues with forum management can help the board evolve, assuming board management cares. :upsidedow

Ah, I see. It does sound so very simple, doesn't it? :rotfl:

I've got to disagree with the bolded. I think it's too much for moderators to monitor EVERY thread. I ASSUME (and you know what happens when you do that) mods DO keep an eye on the 'known' controversy thread.

As far as the Dis being 'hateful'... you should see another board I lurk on. I used to be an active poster, but the BLATANT insults, put downs, partisan attacks, etc just got too much. That's probably why the number of active posters on that board is now just a couple dozen (if that).

I've got to agree with those who say if you don't like the way a thread is going, find another one. There are plenty of topics on here, some with good information, some with laughs, some with 'not so nice' posters... kind of like the human race.;)

I think the mods could pick up on any "hot topics" and maybe check the last few pages once in awhile. That's what I do when I'm in the mood to read a heated thread. Yes, I admit it...I like some drama once in awhile.

I'm just glad they instituted the "no religion/no politics" rule. I don't know how I survived before they did!
