My SIL called SoG today to get the scoop on what's going on as we have a trip scheduled for April 2-17. Here's what she was told:

--If SoG is almost finished they will let people stay there (restaurants may not be done, etc)

--If SoG is not ready for guests they will rebook us into another Disney Deluxe resort at the same rate, however, we would not get to choose which one & it won't necessarily be the Contemporary because they have already started booking the North Garden Wing, which is where we have been the last 2 years.

We were very relieved when we found this out. We were all stressing about what was going to happen & wondering if we should cancel & get an overflow rate somewhere else. After hearing this we feel much better. ::yes::

I realize that SoG is supposed to be done, but we were there in Oct & Nov & my DH golfed near Shades & said it doesn't look anywhere near completion. I'll guess we'll just have to wait & see.

Oh, the woman on the phone also said we would know at least 30 days in advance or sooner via a letter in the mail.

Thanks for the info. We arrive May 28. Let's hope it's either done, or that they at least put us up in the same place (I have 3 rooms booked). I'm also glad to hear that they will put us up in a deluxe resort. If it's not done, I think I'd rather be elsewhere than awaken every morning to construction equipment/noises.

I agree. The last thing I'd want on my vacation is to hear banging every morning - especially if we were planning on sleeping in & doing a pool day instead of rushing to a park. Hopefully, they'll consider that!! Actually, hopefully it will be done! :D

Bumping. I'd like to hear if anyone else has any other insight into this. I'm scheduled to stay at SOG during school vacation week in April. If SOG isn't ready yet, how are they going to move everyone to onsite deluxe resorts? Aren't most of them fully booked for the mid-April time period? Thanks!

Wow, my daughter and I are scheduled to arrive on 28 May 2004. She really doesn't want to stay here, but I do!!!! It would be great (for us) if we had to stay elsewhere for the same price!

We'll see!:hyper:

Those are my thoughts exactly, but according to the woman my SIL spoke to, she said they would move us to a deluxe, but couldn't say which one. She said it would be whatever one was available at that time, not necessarily the Contemporary as it has been in the past.

We have 3 rooms booked. Two of the parties have 3 people in them & my family has 5, making me believe they would have to move us to a resort that accommodates 5 people.

Seeing that it's peak time I can't imagine how they'll do this. I'm anxious to hear what is going to happen to others come Jan/Feb.

MELSMICE - thanks for the info. There's a person who I believe goes by the user name YESNO on this board who used to work at SOG and usually has good insight as to what is going on. Hopefully YESNO will see this post and shed some light on this matter.

I think you mean Firstno;) !
I read on these boards months back that those with reservations at SOG that were displaced for Jan. and Feb. received letters. Some got CR and some got the POR rooms that sleep 5(AB), OR the option of going the next year or cancelling.

I admit I haven't kept up on all the SOG news, since I'll likely never be able to stay there.

But as a fan of the old Disney Inn, I'm wondering - is SOG being rebuilt from the ground up, or is it just being refurbished and expanded? If it's all new, is there any artwork of the new design on the web anywhere?

Thanks for any info here.

I hope they kept parties together that had more than 1 room. I previously posted that we have a total of 3 & I would hate to be split up from my party, especially because my brother (he's in the Air Force) is being transferred to Albuquerque & will be leaving in a little over 2 weeks.

We have been blessed that he has lived near us again for the last 3 1/2 years & we are looking forward to spending time together again at WDW. I don't want to sound snotty, but I hope they don't split parties up. :( They have 3 in their family, my sister has 3 & we have 5.

I think they are leaving the already existing rooms alone. They are building a parking garage and are going to have the buses pickup up and drop off on a different level than the lobby.

Visit their website for info. I think there is an artist rendition of the completed project.

YesNo, NoNo, FirstNo, HeyYou....I'll respond to whatever <BG> .

I don't believe the information posted was much different from what I've posted in the past: they probably won't be finished, but they'll open any way.

I'll be spending lots o'time w/my contact this weekend. I'll see if my contact has any thing new to tell, but it will be Sun or Mon before I can get back here to post whatever comes to light. :)

Thanks - I'm anxious to hear if there's any new information that we aren't already aware of or speculating on. :smooth:

FirstNo - Thanks for the info and sorry about the name mix-up. I have two toddlers so I think I have yes/no etched on the brain as that's the two words used mostly in my coversation with my kids. I will be anxiously awaiting any info you can get out of your friend this weekend: Use all means necessary such as hot spotlights to get him/her to talk.

Cigar95: If you go to: http://www.armymwr.com/shades/index.html and click on the link on the right entitled "Digging in for the Future" there is actual photos of the new SOG being built, delayed 30 minutes. So in all practicality, they are real-time photos. It still looks like they have a long way to go.

Thanks:earsboy:

Whoa - I don't know anything about construction, but it sure does look like they have a long way to go. YIKES!

Please...no apologies are necessary. Truly, I do answer to just about any thing and I thought it was quite funny. I've got a sense of humor, it's just usually misunderstood due to being exceedingly dry. No harm...no foul.

We're doing a company Xmas party so, I think if I just get my source all soused up, I might be able to get something out of him/her before the alcohol comes back up again (j/k!!!). :)

Has anyone else noticed the lack of workers on the job with this construction site? No wonder it is taking so long to complete. Would be nice to see a layout of how the new resort will be set up. I always made room requests based on location of lobby/bus stop or Evergreens. Hard to make a request now if we don't know where everything is going to be.
