Got Pixie Dust? A June 2009 PTR ~TR Link, Page 180

I just got the game and it looks so cool! I don't know if I'll be able to hold on to it for Christmas! LOL Hmmm...Hannah's birthday is in June...maybe a birthday present? LOL

Easter is next Sunday...:rolleyes1 ;)

I love your update about the countries in WS! What a great idea!
Charles with his "tepan edo" cracked me up! Perhaps he should revisit grade school geography.;)

Thanks! Yes, apparently Charles slept through world geography.

my easter bunny only brings chocolate..........I feel jipped!

Time to take a trip to "the Hollywood that never was and always will be."

I have had a love affair with Disney Hollywood Studios since its beginning. Movies have always played a huge part in my life -- I love them -- all kinds, all genres, all time periods. Movies are such visual stories, and they can make me laugh, cry, cringe, and get that giddy feeling in the pit of my stomach. They are visual magic.

So, of course, I adore the park dedicated to those movies.

Our first trip to Disney--MGM must have been in 1990 or 1991 -- not too long after it opened. It was love at first sight for me. I can remember feeling like a movie star strolling down Hollywood Boulevard when there wasn't a hat in the way of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. I can remember the thrill of riding Star Tours for the first time. I can remember shopping for movie memorabilia at Sid's, and I can remember never wanting to leave the park.

I decided to split this update into two parts -- sequels, if you will. ;)

Feeling like a movie star despite the leather jacket and stonewashed jeans.

Riding the Studio Backlot Tour used to mean seeing all sorts of movie props and film sets. I was on a Who Framed Roger Rabbit? kick, and they had lots of props from it.

The street car and car.

The Dip Machine which looks like it used to be on the Streets of New York.

Yours truly posing with the Weasels and the Toon Patrol car (remember this photo for the next update).

Apparently we went back on a second day where I sported a stonewashed jean jacket and stonewash jeans. I also always stuck my hip out for some reason -- I guess it was my "Strike a Pose" pose. :lmao: I wonder what I had bought in that bag I am holding...

On the 1998 trip Michael and I had a sibling rivalry episode at the ABC Comissary (when the food used to be good there).

Our favorite counter service used to be the Soundstage Restaurant which is now Playhouse Disney. It was the neatest atmosphere.

So, that's it for the first round -- next time, Chelsea and Connor discover their celebrity selves, Connor pulls a Toy Story Mania, and Chelsea meets her main man. ;)

You also have a little bit of a head tilt going on! Hip out, head tilted, toes pointed, hehehe.

Soundstage does look really neat. I think DHS needs more things like that, to get it more of a movie feel. I love the Pixar things they have been adding but I really want to see more "backstage movie" things. :thumbsup2

Oh, I totally forget about Connor pulling a Toy Story Mania. I can't wait to read about that again. :lmao:

:lmao: I was always posing like that -- we have about seven years worth of pictures with me in that pose. :rotfl:

Soundstage even had a bar on the second floor called the Catwalk -- I always wanted to go there and pretend I was Audrey Hepburn or Cyd Charisse. I wish DHS would go back to some of the things they used to have.

I was looking through pictures and saw that one where he is sitting at the table and couldn't help laughing as I remembered his TSM moment.

I spent all evening reading your pretrip so far. we are staying at Kidani the same time that you are going!!!! From the looks of your adrs we will be at most of the same parks the same days!!! Great minds think alike. I am enjoying your adventures and looking forwrd to more!!!!

Is it just me or does Connor look a little like Michael? Those are just the best photographs, thanks for posting them!
I love those camels at Soundstage
:rotfl:

I really miss the old backstage tour, the old animation tour, and the working movie lots. I know people want rides now but I enjoyed the tours that explaned how movies were made.

I think so too! ::yes::

Me too! I was going "Michael? I thought it was Connor." Then I realized....flashback silly...it can't be Connor! LOL The pictures are great. I never got to see MGM back in the day so it's interesting to see how it used to be. Years ago I went to Universal in California and did a backlot tour and thought it was really cool to see all the sets and learn about the inner workings. DHS was our least favorite park. Maybe if it had more of the behind-the-scenes stuff it would have been more interesting to us.

:welcome: Oh, I would love to stay at Kidani someday -- I will definitely be exploring while we are there! Maybe we will run into each other since our park days overlap a good bit!

:rotfl:

Thanks! Yep, Charles and I have always thought Connor favored his Uncle Mike -- they have the same sense of humor, too. :lmao:

I think the camels found a new home in front of the Magic Carpets in Adventureland.

I think so too! ::yes::

Everytime I see a picture of Michael when he was younger, I think Connor looks a lot like him, too.

What an awesome update! DHS of the olden days :)

How lovely MGM was in its heydey -- of course, in its defense, there are a lot of new and neat things like Tower of Terror, RnRC, and TSM.

I really miss the old backstage tour, the old animation tour, and the working movie lots. I know people want rides now but I enjoyed the tours that explaned how movies were made.

I miss those, too -- the animation tour was so neat to watch animators at work on the next film.

Nice Flashback! I wish we had gotten to see DHS in its early days.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun! Of course there is a lot that is still the same.

:rotfl: It was an easy mistake to make -- both of them are always making funny faces in their photos. I think DHS made a mistake getting away from all the behind-the-scenes stuff, but then Disney neglected to ask me before they made changes. :rotfl:

The flashback pics are great! Don't you just love reminising?

Thanks! I do love waxing nostalgic over Disney and past trips!

Steal away! I saw a little something over on the AKL Lite thread today about that December trip...:rolleyes1 I tend to lurk over there since someone is always posting pics of zebra domes.

:goodvibes I'm so excited about our trip! There is SO much planning to do...very soon after I finish my TR I'll be starting the PTR!

I love all your DHS pics!! I agree with the crowd that it would be nice if DHS has more of an actual sound-stage/set feeling. I kinda get that when walking through the Pixar area, but all the buildings are still just empty. I hope they do something more with it.

I wish too they would take the hat AWAY. The Chinese Theatre is beautiful, and I'm not so fond of the hat.

Looking forward to more DHS pics!

Oh, and love the stonewashed, tight rolled jeans. We were all so stylin' back then, weren't we?! :rotfl:

Love the flashback... looking forward to the sequel. I also vividly remember my first ride on Star Tours and really feeling like you were in the movie. Magic! And I think that they used to really play up the backstage tour and tell you that you never knew "who" (meaning a celebrity) you'd see back there filming. Even though I never saw anyone it was still fun! And of course back in the day (the day of leather jackets and stonewash jeans ;) ) it was really cool to see the Golden Girls' house!

Looking forward to reliving Connor's Toy Story Mania moment and Chelsea and her main man!! :goodvibes

Thank you so much for the flashback photos!

OMG, do they bring back memories.

Watch out for the camels! They spit! :lmao:
