Got our number yesterday, deed was filed 12/30. So do I have to call to make a reservation until I get my packet in the mail?

I would call MS and ask them. They are the ones that have caused your delays by making you wait for the mail.

:earsboy: Bill

I waited until I got my packet last month and I didn't need to, once you have that member number call and they'll walk you through connecting your online access to the DVC membership site, in my case it was the same user name and password I'd been using to make Disney reservations for several years.

We are waiting for our member number - we've called Member Services twice and they wouldn't tell us our number. Once you have the number you can book because they told us we were in the system but couldn't tell us what our number was.

We joined today over the phone and our sales rep called with our member number. I would try to make contact with your sales rep. He said I could call MS with the number to go ahead and book rooms.

It's a very different process when you buy resale. Disney makes it more difficult than buying direct to try and deter people from buying resale. At one point, up until a couple of years ago, resale buyers could call Member Administration a week or so after they closed and obtain their member number and make their first reservation. But I guess MA was fielding far too many calls from resale buyers who would call every day or multiple times per day to see if they were in the system, so DVC created a blanket policy that member numbers would not be given to new (resale) buyers over the phone. You now have to wait to get your member number via snail mail.

As long as you have your membership # and activation code for online, you can call MS and ask for your club ID so that you can login online and make reservations!

We called Accounting and got our member number and then Member services gave us our activation code. We booked our trip for March and our initial booking for October ! So happy the waiting is over....

I disagree that Disney is making resale people wait for their membership number solely to encourage people to buy resale. If this was true, they would make it part of the direct sales spiel tactic. "Don't buy resale. Not only will you have to wait 30 days for ROFR, but after your sale, we have a policy of just letting the new resale owner's information sit on our desk for a determined amount of time just to annoy them and make them rue the day they didn't pay thousands of dollars more!"

The simple truth is that the administration of resale purchase paperwork is, of course, NOT a priority. I've heard that have one staff member working on these, with who-knows-what other responsibilities. So I believe: Low priority? Yes. Deliberate delay as"punishment"? No.

Like a PP, I called the member accounting department a week after closing, and a very nice person gave me the information.
