DS7 and I are registered to assemble donation items and deliver them to a foster care agency about 45 miles south of here next Sunday! This is the sort of thing I love doing - we always "adopt" someone at the holidays and this year I didn't get my act together in time so we already have several toys in our pile, plus a few cute baby items that DD1 outgrew before wearing! DS always saves $1 a week for donations and has $7 at the moment so we will go shopping during this week and drop off a nice care package on Sunday! Then...we get a free Disney day! Everybody wins. :goodvibes

PS...also cool, he has NO idea I'm planning to surprise him with an 8th birthday weekend trip and this will help with that!) :)

I am having trouble finding kid friendly options here. The closest one I found for my 7 year old was almost 2 hours away!! and that was 2 hours north in the snow belt. I need to keep checking to see if they add any or wait until April when she turns eight :thumbsup2 as many of them had that as an age limit.

I was disappointed to see the Dec 15th deadline for using the volunteer ticket. That means my dates are blacked out.

May I ask what town you're headed to? (No idea where Nutley is.) So many opportunites near us required skilled labor (for example to paint at a park, must also be able to caulk & spackle) or things I could do, I'd have to take off work.
What you have sounds ideal.:thumbsup2

What are the blackout dates? Are there any before Dec. 15? We might be spending a day at MK post cruise in March. (Palm Sunday)

I signed up, volunteered and have my free vouchers ready to go for the whole family. Me, DH, DD7, and DD9 all volunteered at The American Cancer society for only to Hours putting together packets for "Relay for Life". So easy. Since we are in Florida I am thinking we will upgrade our ticket to a 3 day pass and make it a trip for three different weekends, if we add water parks to it.

I just signed my family of 4 up for an opportunity in Wall NJ for an organization called Blossom. You will need to get items for a foster care drive. I will need to donate hygiene items, toys and cloths. I believe you need a least 5 items for each person participating. You than choose a Sunday and between the hours of 1-4 you will drop the items off.

After you volunteered, how did you receive your voucher. We signed up and volunteered already last Saturday morning. Just wondering if it's e-mailed to us or mailed. When we left our volunteer site, they said they would log the hours in.

I just logged into my account on Disney's site, and it says pending verification. My one daughter that was signed up and couldn't go, says not complete. So I know that the volunteer hours that my DW, and other DD, and myself got credit, just waiting. How did you receive yours so soon?

I may have gotten mine so soon cause it was early in the start of it all. Once you volunteer, the volunteer site sends hours back to Hands on network, w ho in turn sends completion on to Disney and then Disney will send you voucher by email for you to print out for each person who volunteered. You should get it soon. Allow up to two weeks I think it says.

We are also going to Blossom in Wall (as another poster is!) Nutley is in Essex County, about 10 miles west of NYC and just by Montclair. I'm psyched!

Also relieved that the dates around DS's birthday (12/4) are not blacked out. We went in '07 the week after T'giving and it was AWESOME! Planning 1 day at MK and 1 day at Epcot, and hoping for a PIN so we could stay at WL. :rolleyes1

Me my DW and DD all signed up to bake dog and cat treats for pets of homebound seniors, baked yesterday and drop them off Thursday. Also It is our sixth night in a row of 32 or below here in sunny Florida, bring warm coats to visit Mickey.

Thanks for this tip! We're going to do this too. We figure between my work and dh's work, family & neighbors, and ds9's class, we should be able to collect a huge amount. I checked out Blossom's website and it seems like a great company.

It's really not that far, prob 1.5 hr drive but on a Sunday will be easy.
My kids are excited. Good thing we just got a 30% off coupon for Kohls so we can add to the pile too. :thumbsup2

We'll probably do it on Valentine's Day so last night I made a flyer to hang it on our time-clocks at work saying 'Have a Heart!' at top and then explaining what we're doing.

Thanks!!!!:worship:

btw, we already have 10 day non-exp hoppers but since our MK visit is only going to be around 6-7 hrs, post cruise and flying home later that night, we didn't want to 'waste' a hopper day, knowing we won't really have time to hop.
I noticed there are other choices besides a 1 day ticket for multi day ticket or AP holders. One of those choices is several Fast Passes.
Has anyone redeemed their voucher for these? Just wondering how many FPs you get and which would be a better deal.
Thanks!:goodvibes

we had several "craft" type items in our area that were starting at age 6. Most of them you could do at home and mail in the product. We made a collection box and collected money for a week. Just wanted to mention, search outside of your area since some can be done by mail!

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in the TPA&S Forum, especially Post #16, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature.

This is the same as in WDW's webisite:
1. Fastpass Exchange Cards for you and up to five members of your party. All members of your party must be present at the time of redemption of the certificate to get the Exchange Cards. The Exchange Cards are valid that day only and at that Park only. Fastpass Exchange Cards may not be available after 11:00am.
Just wondering how many FP's you get. :confused3

I'm having a heck of a time trying to find out how to do this..I want to do the book drive one for the USO, but there is no way to find the organization to sign up! I searched the VA zip code but nada, then emailed the Hands On organization and haven't heard back. Any hints?

Wow, that was fast...............we have again gotten contacted.... by three MORE places that they are overwhelmed with volunteers and unable to schedule anyone (one said they are making a list and already have over 500 people on it!)
Well, I am so happy for THEIR luck at getting so many people, but keeping our fingers crossed that the opportunity that IS available for us (not till April) will still be available...........

We are also doing the foster child item collection with Blossom. It was really the only opportunity for the entire family. Our drop off day is the 21st, that was the earliest Sunday we could do with other obligations and work.

Very excited to be participating. :yay:

I know this must be so frustrating for you but I'm glad to hear that so many organizations that rely on volunteers are getting so many people interested and trying.
I bet the companies that passed on the opportunity to team up with Disney are kicking themselves now. :goodvibes
