What do I do? It was a direct deposit and the help line says not to contact them for 2 more weeks. I sent it after 2/13, but the partial amount has been refunded. It's only like 2000 short. :earseek:

Are you sure that isn't the state tax refund if you were getting one? I'm sorry - I don't have any advice but I'd forget the message and keep calling or find another number to call. If someone did your taxes I'd also go to them.

How did you do your taxes? I would go through the m or the help-desk if it was on-line or a software. The only thing I can think of is that your numbers were wrong and the IRS did not approve your initial amount.

Did you forget a SS# on the form?
Last year DH did our taxes-and left the kids SS# blank, to fill in later(he didn't have the numbers on hand)-well it slipped his mind(and he's an accountant:rolleyes: LOL) and they were sent in without the #s.
We got our return and I almost had a heart attack!
We too were told to wait it out-but we went back over the copies he made of the return and quickly saw that the kids info was missing.
He called the IRS, supplied them with the #s and we got the rest of our refund pretty quickly.

The only thing I can think of is that the IRS spotted a mistake and corrected your return with the information they had.

Make sure to go back and look at your return. You may need to redo it-just because the IRS may have recalculated it doesn't mean they did it correctly.

Are you sure the whole thing wasn't deposited but the bank is just holding part of it because it is a check?

I got my taxes back ,I have direct deposit so when I got the deposit it was different than what I had expected.
It took 2 weeks but I finally got an explanation. I had forgotten to put my son's SS # on my form (I am not an accountant so I don't feel so bad, JVL1018 lol).
They changed my status from HOH to single and took the deductions off. I called them the same day and they did correct the changes and I should be getting the correct amount within the next 3 weeks. I hope so, that is my cruise cash! Peggie

Mickey527,

They took the correction over the phone? Usually you would have to fill out a form and mail it in.

Just curious.

That happened to me one time. I was in a hurry to send off the return, didn't have DD SSN handy at the time, filled the form out thinking I'd come back with the number before I sent it. I forgot to write it in, sent off the return and only got a portion of the refund. Once I provided DD's SSN the balance was refunded.

Yep when I checked my mother's for her last night it said it would be something like $170 short, I'm sure the accountant made a silly mistake, or maybe the IRS did (as if THAT could ever happen!)

I had to call them once because I forget to do something. Can't remember exactly but it had something to do with the daycare that you get to claim. I think I had the form in there but forgot to subtract it. I actually had more money coming than what I had figured. I called and told the lady that I was going to send in a correction and she asked me not to and said she would correct it for me. She corrected it and I received the correct amount. I think it just depends on the correction if they will do it over the phone.

I went through a bookkeeper and everything WAS filled in.....however, my DS's SS# was listed with a number that was ONE off....for instance 347 and it was listed as 317. Why would my 1yr old sons SS# make that difference and now what do I do?

Lewski709, There's the child tax credit and deduction for a dependant, off the top of my head. I'm certainly no expert, however.

Will they contact me to tell me there was an error?

Being one number off on the ss# could make a HUGE difference.

Child tax credit, earned income credit, dependant deduction and anything else having to deal with a child are a few things I can think of.

This happened to me one time Lewski709, and they DID NOT contact me. I realized on my own that I left DS's SS# off (after they sent me the wrong amount) and I contacted them immediately. They made me send in the corrected forms and refunded the rest of my refund within two weeks. Hope this helps!:wave2:

Same thing happened to us a few years ago. SS# wrong by one number. He sent in a correction form and we got our refund in a few weeks. They have gotten very sticky when it comes to dependents SS#'s.

We did that one year. The IRS doesn't like that at all. We've never made that mistake again. Our DD was about 2 at the time. When I first called the number that was on the notice, I got someone who wasn't very helpful and that person wanted us to fill out an amended return. I called the next day, and that person made the change over the phone. We got the additional amount direct deposited about 10 days later.

not only that, but did you remeber to subtract that check that was sent back in August or September (the one that was $400.00 per child?) That was an advance on this years taxes and had to be deducted from your refund amount.

You think the IRS would contact you to let you know of an error, that when corrected would obligate them to give you more money back?

This is the US Government we're talking about here. :earsboy: :earsboy:

With them, you're always on your own!
