Well friends, we could wait no longer. DH and I went to our local Apple store and plunked down our credit card for the latest and greatest. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: We waited about 35 - 40 minutes in line, not bad considering what other waits have been. I got a black 8G and he got a white 16G (these were the only 2 products in stock). DH likes to use his phone for movies when he travels, hence the extra space.

Just have it set up so I have not had a whole lot of time to play with the new features. I sure I will exercise it tomorrow.

Just thought some of you would be interested....OK, I wanted to brag :rotfl:

as much a I talked up the new phone... after playing with it... I dunno if the upgrade is worth it. The old was does about everything, 'cept for the really good GPS.

We've been enjoying ours. I was most amazed when a half-hour after buying mine, all my calendars and contacts had been automatically loaded onto the phone (we use MobileMe).

My wife has commented several times on how easy it is to use. Me? I'm a technoGeek so I'm in heaven. :-)

DH and I don't have a data phone right now so we were looking HARD at the iPhone and I am loving people's opinions on it.... I want to hear from people who didn't have a data phone before and now have an opinion about how they can't/can live without it (kinda like I felt about getting a laptop vs a desktop BEFORE getting my laptop - I can't live with my laptop now!) We have At&t so it would be the iPhone for us but I talked to a friend who has Verizon's version and she said it is hard to answer an incoming call. Anyone with the iPhone have that problem? (sorry to hijack your thread daneenm! - congrats by the way - I'm totally jealous! -- oh - I have a question for you -- you said you went to the Apple store to get the phone. Did you get the discounted price for signing the at&t contract or is that only avail if you get the phone from at&t? Sorry for all of the questions!

We haven't gone for the upgrade yet...can't decide. We got our iPhones for Christmas 2007 and absolutely love them.

Someone asked about no data phone versus data phone. I can give you two perspectives. My husband had a regular old cell phone when he got his iPhone and has fallen in love with his iPhone. I think he mainly uses the internet and maps functions. That man is a whiz at the map function. And truly that better GPS on the new model might be what prompts him to get the upgrade.

I had a Blackberry before I switched to the iPhone and I prefer the iPhone. The internet is much better and easier to read and use. I actually didn't use the calendar function on my Blackberry that much because it wasn't really that easy to use. Now if I lost my iPhone I would go crazy without a calendar!

We both think it was the best phone switch we ever made. It is very simple to use and great to have with you on the road. I love having my email handy!

I never had any kind of smart phone before my first gen iPhone. I work at Apple (in IT, so I have nothing to do with these great products until we have to report sales on them) and we were all given a first gen iPhone when they came out. I was certain I was only going to use it as a phone and leave the bells and whistles to others. I could not have been more wrong! I would say at this point my phone use is secondary.

Answering the iPhone is extremely intuitive, in my opinion.

You activate at the Apple store. Apple's systems talk to AT&Ts so by the time you leave, you are completely active all the way through AT&T. Yes, it does require the contract but we were with them already so we had no issue with that.

They still can't be found in my area

Are the Houston stores the nearest ones to you? Don't know if this works the same way there, but all of the bigger Apple Stores near us were completely sold out. We went to a Mini store (one of the smaller footprint mall stores) and they had quite a lot of supply. Might be worth trying that method if there is one in your area.

Good Luck!

I Love my iPhone 3G! I previously had a Cingular/ATT/HTC 8525, which is a 3G Windows Mobile smartphone. With one exception, every experience on this phone is exceptionally better. The one issue I have with the iPhone is that I can't use it as a high-speed modem for my laptop, which I could do with the previous phone. Other than that... love it, love it, love it!!!:cloud9:
