Hi everyone,

We received our giclee today and our Vacation Planner. It was in quite an impressive package.

But I can't help but wonder, how much did WE (meaning DVC members) pay for it? I think it's very nice, however, we would enjoy our DVC membership very much without it.

No, I don't want to sell it or give it away. We will keep it and probably frame it. However, I just can't help but wonder how much of the cost of this package we picked up.

Thanks! :goodvibes

Well we will never know .

This may also come from the Marketing end of things so that would be put on DVD not DVC.

I still think with the amount that they did it would be under $40 for the entire package and that on the high side from someone in the digital copy, printing business.I would even bet they got a great rate from FedEx as well so that would even cut that down as well.

I wondered the same thing. I haven't received it yet. If we're paying for it, maybe they should have just put a blurb about it on the members website, with a link that says to get yours click here. But I guess they might not have the technology to prevent some members from ordering more than one. Remember last year when everyone was tossing their calendars?

I would bet that the print was paid for through DVD marketing, but packing and shipping, since it also contained our 2008 point charts, through DVC.

Does it really matter how much it costs. I think its a nice little gift......it doesn't happen every year. Its things like this that give me a warm and fuzzy about joining. Disney does a great job keeping our attention by sending a nice gift out with our vacation planner....You could ask the same question about the tote bag for new members, who pays for that?

Gift means someone else pays for it.

IF I pay for it, it's not a gift.

It is very nice, but I would rather my DVC money go toward improving their point tracking and reservation system.

Gift or Souvenier.....what ever you want to call it, my kids loved it. Improving point tracking and reservations...can be done and will be. I still track my own points I would never rely on MS to do that, mistakes are made no matter how flawless the system is. If money is to be spent it should be on on-line booking and the ability for us to check availability on-line as well. I don't mean to disagree with you, because I'm not. I just think that the print was a nice bonus to get with our book......no matter who paid for it.

Wow. I'm surprised that some people on these boards seem to find the negative in everything! We just opened our package this morning and were thrilled to find the special print. I definitely think it was a nice bonus and am not at all worried about how much it was or who paid for it. For us, it was a little magical moment at home and those don't come along every day. :wizard:

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the responses but my initial question was how much did the picture cost and who pays for that (US or DVD)?

For anyone who wants to find fault with me for asking the question, or to call me negative (which I am not, since I clearly stated I thought it was impressive) there are other threads where you can do that -- try the DVC- MISC board. This board is for DVC operations, and the question, which I believe is a fair one, is how is a giveaway like this financed?

Is there anyone who has an idea of the answer to the question? :goodvibes

I believe DVC pays for it.

Of our annual dues, the "Management Fee" appears to be the component that goes to DVC to fund the operations of the program itself. The Management Fee is not based upon actual costs--according to the POS it's fixed at 12% of all other exepenses except for taxes and transportation.

What DVC does with that 12% is up to them. If their operational costs run less than the 12% they collect, the remainder is profit.

I just want to chime in and say that I agree with the OP. I think the giclee is nice, but and yes we probablly did not pay for the generation of the gift but since it was included with the planner we did as a group pay for the packaging and the shipping of it. That may not be fair. IF it was a "gift" from DVC it should have been shipped and packaged separately from our planner that we pay for with dues.. flame away :stir:

Question: Which line item of our annual budget do you believe covers the issuance of the planner?

You guys are amazing. Who cares how much it cost?! The shipping on this box probably cost Disney less than $2.00.

Yes, but even if it cost $2.00, they sent out 100,000 of them. I can think of better things for them to do with nearly a quarter of a million dollars than send out a print that most people will probably throw out.

Aloha msuspartan,

You and I are thinking exactly alike.

I had a similar reaction when I opened ours. The whole special birthday cake package, print, and postage seemed to lead me to say why? and how much did this all cost?

Most probably apprecated it for the cost, as can be noted by the reaction in some of these posts, but just not for us.

Back to the original question...
I really don't know how much one of those prints cost in mass production. Or how much that box cost. And I didn't check the postage.

Good Grief ! DVD and DVD are in the business of making money. They market a product and we choose whether or not to buy. They charge us operating costs for the resorts. They market their product and this is part of that endeavour. Existing owners are a possible source of more revenue and thus marketing dollars are spent on them.

As part of the 15th anniversary they chose to spend some of their marketing and promotion budget on something for the members. Appreciate it and move on...

I for one continue to enjoy the purchase of DVC and the vacations that my family regularly takes as a result of that purchase. I haven't received my package yet but will enjoy it when i do. If I have no use for it i can always give it to someone who will have a use for it.
