Got my Giclee, but ...

I returned from a two week stay at SSR and found the package on my front porch. I was thrilled! I love it.

All I can say is WOW!!I did not realize this was such a hot topic.
We paid our dues...why shouldn't we get a nice souvenier in return. I understand where you are others are coming from. But why should we be so critical of something we can't control. Its not like the next time Disney's going to call us and say, "Hey, would you like a Giclee with your book or a $15.00 rebate." Most of us spend that kind on money before we even board a plane to get to Orlando......
Would I like to see the money spent on on line reservations...yes
Would I like to see lower dues...yes
Its out of our control.........at least I think. Does DVC have a true voice to be heard by DVD?? Is the association that does exist actually able to participate in these type decisions??

DVC has dues about double almost anything out there that is as nice or nicer. I'm not cheap but I seek value and IMO, this would be a frivolous waste of maint fees and would be a violation of their fiduciary responsibility if paid for by the members no matter how nice it was. Hopefully the funding is coming from DVD's marketing budget. But that's my opinion and if this is something you're willing to pay $50 or so for, that's fine.

i did recieve mine but i have to send it to my daughter because we own the contract together. we also own a small add-on together and if we do not get another one for that, i guess i will understand.

on the other hand, i own, by myself, a totally separate contract under a different membership no. with different uy, and i think i should get one for that contract.

i know that sounds a little selfish, but i really would like to have one in my home too.

Loved it. If I paid for it then great, they are gave me something nice. If I didn't then it's still great.

I like getting nice little surprises, it's what sets Disney apart.

Apparently I've offended some of you by graciously accepting my Giclee with no questions ask. Some of you state that DVC has a fiduciary responsiblilty to its members, well and good but marketing is marketing. Either its to existing members or not. DVC has to stay profitable for all of us to benefit. Yes I agree the dues are outrageous...but when we all bought we knew that up front. The other question you can ask is how many timeshares actually appreciate in value? Fiscally its all a decision we made to join......if I paid for my Giclee than fine.....

By the way or BTW as some write.....there is a post stating that the cost came out of the marketing budget. Its the same thread that has the poll that over 70% of the people thus far love their Giclee.

What Disney spent on these I'm fairly sue is a tiny portion of the DVC budget, and probably much outweighed by potential future business both from us and those we will refer.

The concept of the DVc is a "club" - a place where you are welcomed - welcomed home in fact!

Little things like this are a way of engendering this. It is money well spent. I'm sure it will provide much better returns than some of the promotional materials they have done. Not to say those were bad, but this is great.

Note too that this was done one time, for the 15th. Amortize the cost of that over the life of your contract. If it cost them $10 each (which I'm sure it didn't), that's $.28/year at most!

But DVC has done this one or two other times which brings our cost to almost $1.00/year!!

This is getting very frivolous if you ask me. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Not offended, just different points of view. Don't sweat it.

it's been established that the hope/thought is the glicee costs came out of the marketing budget and everyone seems to be content that the points charts book costs come out of our dues payments...

but isn't anyone up in arms over the printing costs of that Point Chart Book

I mean, come on, I count over 30 pages either a blank color, photograph, or template for some Goofy hat.

So think about it, why couldn't it have been just 40 pages OR LESS of text/charts... IN BLACK & WHITE... on un-coated cheap paper stock, stapled together, mailed via bulk US snail mail??? That would have saved a lot of money over the costs that they spent on the one we did get.
