Thanks for sharing...really enjoyed reading your report...
Would love to hear how you met - at Epcot?? Do tell!!
This is my fav story totell!
In August of 1983, a group of singles froom my church, decided to do a day trip to EPCOT and hang out. DH was new to our singles ministry and didn't know anyone. He almost decided not to go, but he was a mechanic and figured he could be of help if the church van messed up. That is so funny!!!... as that is exactly what happened!! I kid you not. The AC compressor came loose and fell into the engine, making a horrible noise. We pulled over and DH got underneath and fixed it. As a matter of fact, my very first picture of Fred is one I took when we were pulled off the interstate. I was taking a picture of my friends yakking and goofing around, but there are DH boots sticking out from under the front of the van...too funny.
Anyway, we went the whole day having fun, I guess Fred was. Not sure at that time as he was so dog gone quiet. We all had dinner around 5PM at Germany. Afterwards we were continuing around world showcase. When we got to a bridge right before China, it went up letting fireworks barges through. We were stuck there for quite a while. Well, I struck up a conversation with Mr. Bashful. He was for sure a mechanic, and I was a single girl in distress with a broke AC in my car! We chatted about that. Then bridge was finally coming up, we continued walking and chatting. By the time we got to Mexico, we determined we were 2 single people, tired of the dating game, and just desiring someone to hang with and have some simple unattached fun with. SO we agreed as we were walking up the stairs in Mexico to call each other if we were bored and wanted to see a movie or whatever to get out and have some fun....THEN.... at the SAME TIME we said, "no strings attached". HONEST!! By the way, whenever we go to EPCOT, we always stop and kiss at the bridge. When it's our anniversary we kiss AND have our picture done together.
So lets' see, about a month later I had a promise ring. Then since he was fixing to leave in November for Navy boot camp he asked me if I'd wait for him. I think that was his way of proposing, as he never actually said, "will you marry me". So without hesitation I very romantically said, "YOU BETCHA"!!! So we had a long distance romance for about 4 months. When he got back to Florida, he had 2 more weeks to do at Jacksonville with his squadron. Then he was all mine. That very day we went out shopping and he bought my engagement ring. He asked my daddy for my hand in marriage at Church supper with my whole family there. Daddy said, "nope, I'm sorry son. If you want to marry her, you gotta take more than just her hand." With that my daddy gave him a big hug and his blessings, and I got my rock. Then everyone in the fellowship hall came up and hugged and congradulated us. he still never asked me to marry him. LOL!We were married July 28 that year of 1984. And it's been a best thing that's ever happened to me outside of my salvation experience. It's great when you know you have God's choice and you have that prefect peace about it all.
That's my story and I'm stickin to it!!
Blessings,
Winnie
Just wanted to add that on our 5 year anniversary, DH bought me a different shaped diamond to go with my wedding ring. I had to go pick it up. He made me promise not to look at it. I was DYIN!! But no I didn't look. When DH got home. He asked if I had looked. I said no. So he took me to couch, made me sit down, and he got down on one knee, and told me the first 5 had been so wonderful, and he wanted to know if I continue to be his bride for the rest of my life. I again romantically said...."YOU BETCHA!!!"....hehehe!! So he finally proposed...LOL
