Got an interesting survey today from Disney

The people who make the big decisions seem to not have a clue what conditions are truly like in the park. So I don't see them cutting down on crowds at all. It will be horrible once Star Wars Land opens. I just wonder how many years it will take for it to not suck. We are going in June this year. No clue when we'll be back after that. Kind of sad to think about.
I agree it will get especially bad when SWL opens.... However, I remember the days after Cars Land opened. People were commenting on how quiet the parks were everywhere except Cars Land. For this reason, we are thinking very much about going right after SWL opens... or right before. Thought process is if we go in the weeks before the opening, lots of people are going to be pushing that vacation off for "just a few more weeks" to get to see SWL. And if we go just after it opens, well, same thing--everyone is there to see SWL, so we can enjoy the rest of the parks without all those people :)

As for the original discussion on the thread, I think stopping the monthly payment plan would be the quickest way to decrease crowds, but as we've already pointed out, there's no way they will do this. And clearly, people will continue to pay the outrageous prices to get in. I think this is just the new normal....

What if the way to cut down on crowds is to make YOU stop going.

About 7 years ago (maybe 10?) Kevin Yee wrote a piece, "We have seen the enemy, and he is us" about how it is the annual pass holders are CRUSHING Disneyland with crowds. At that time there were like 700K APs generating something like 7 million of DLR's 15 million annual visits. Now it is believed to be over 1 million APs generating more than 10 million of DLR's 18 million annual visits.

But whether you are an AP or not, the crowds are us. Want it to be less crowded? Stop going.

I am guessing you didn't actually read my post since I thought it was pretty clear that we likely WON'T be going for a while after this year. But that is more to do with planning other vacations instead. It just works out that it helps us avoid the first few years of SWL.

As for pricing us out though...I don't see that happening since we are once-ever-few-years Disneyland people.

An excellent hypothetical.

Over the last ten years I have only gone on "slow" days. And each year those
slow days are busier. I get upset when Disney offers perks and discounts and
special events during non-peak season because it brings in more people. But
then I think about it...

What could Disney do to convince ME not to go?

What could Disney do to convince ME not to go?

Almost a decade ago, when I saw the price of a PAP go from $200 to $400 over 5 years and NO effect on sales, I could see the future.... $1000, and still climbing.... and more crowded than ever.

I proposed getting rid of the AP and replacing it with a 10-day pass that expired in a year. I got banned from MiceChat for nothing more than REALLY, REALLY angering the AP holders with this idea.

We have seen the enemy, and it is us.
