Hello there! Thanks for visiting my PTR thread. I’m new to the boards so this is my first report. I hope to hear your opinions and experiences about the things I post here. Though I’ve got to say, I do not have nearly as much drama or as many fun stories but I hope you’ll keep coming back!

Let’s start at the very beginning, which is a very good place to start. :rotfl:

When will you be there? May 19-25, 2011
What for? We’re celebrating my college graduation (I finally did it!) :woohoo:
Where will you sleep at night? All Star Movies
How many of you are going? Just the two of us!

Next post: Introducing the “us” and how we got here
After that: Where to hang your hat
After after that: Upgraded lodging
After after after that: Nomming our way through Disney
Throughout: Your opinions, advice, and constructive criticisms

Let me tell you a bit about who will be going…

This time, it will be only the boyfriend and me. It was a little nuts when we went with his family last summer because everyone wanted to go here or there. It made it less enjoyable, I think.

Anyway, here we are:
2593_76372133708_588083708_2398025_1629373_n.jpg

We’re from New Jersey. I am currently in my last semester and completing my student teaching in middle school Math. My boyfriend is in second semester of his Master’s degree in Biology but hopefully in the Fall he will be starting the teaching program too.

As you can see by my signature, I have been to Disney three times in my life. The first time was for Grad Night when I was a senior in high school. We stayed off site, went to Pleasure Island when the clubs were still kind of open then to MK in the same night, and I got to see DHS when it was still MGM. Sooo my first impression of WDW was not exactly impressive. When I started dating my boyfriend, I found out that his family tried to go every two years when he was young. My response was “WHY? It’s nothing special.” He was determined to prove me wrong.

So in March 2009, we stayed at Pop Century for six nights, seven days. I LOVED IT. I still told him that I couldn’t imagine coming back within the next five years since it seemed like we saw practically everything we wanted to during our stay. Again he was determined to prove me wrong.

In December 2009, I started to see the commercials for the Give a Day, Get a Day program. When the information was finally released, I was the one who signed up the seven of us (bf’s family, bf, and me) to make blankets for kids in group homes. We met our requirement and got our one-day tickets. Bf’s parents had already booked a cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line leaving from NYC and stopping in Port Canaveral anyway so we now had somewhere to go when we got to port. Between docking, the hour long bus ride to the WDW Transit Center, and the same thing in reverse at the end of the day, we had maybe four hours in MK. I got my fix though. (And the bf laughed at me for not being able to stay away).

Helloooooooooooo! Thanks for being my first (and only so far) reader! Yes, the upgrade part is coming. I'll keep it a secret in order to keep you coming back though. ;)

The first time my boyfriend and I stayed at WDW, we went with Pop Century since it was the hotel Liberty Travel was promoting in their sale at the time. We loved it. The oversized throwback items and bright colors completely keep you in the Disney mood after you get back from a park for the night. Sure it was crowded at times and the bus stop at the parks for the resort is one of the last ones (a long walk after a long day). I didn’t mind a small room with few amenities either. I’m not staying in the hotel most of time. By the way, what is it with people loving the Bay Tower and other close-by Deluxe hotels and their view of the fireworks? WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN YOUR ROOM?? You’re at DISNEY!

I digress. I suggested that we try something new. All Star Movies seemed to be a fun theme so I decide to ask for a price quote on it. I knew that the All Stars were built around the same time as Pop so I knew that the rooms are set up the same with similar amenities. So it’s like Pop with a different theme, right? Well, of course, I read up later after I get here and in the unofficial guide books about how big groups stay there, all three hotels share buses, Movies is the farthest out of the three, and that Movies is in need of a refurb. Greeeeeaaaaaaat.

I’m trying to be optimistic that the vacation will be just fine and it’s worse sounding than it’ll actually be. There’s that little voice inside me that keeps nudging me and reminding me about all the cons in this comparison.

So I started poking around on the WDW website pricing out other hotels using all the same parameters as our current vacation and looking at the price difference. Maybe I’ll get a PIN out of it before we have to pay our balance I say to myself.

To be continued…

Next post: Upgraded lodging

I decided to move up the Upgraded Lodging post because I’ve just got to talk about it! So as I said we booked at All Star Movies because I thought it would be the same as Pop Century except with a different theme. Then I find out that it’s shabby and the last stop getting on and getting off when the buses are combined for all All Stars hotels.

Last week I started poking around on the WDW website pricing out other resorts (and saving them in hopes of triggering a PIN). Now, remind you that I am still a college student and I have been reduced to 16 hours a week for work in order to accommodate my schedule. Same thing with the boyfriend… he’s working on his master’s and is limited for work hours. We’re basically paying for this trip with tax return money. This means our budget is kind of limited (thus the Value resort).

Anyway, I was pricing out other resorts from the Polynesian to Pop Century. My boyfriend had mentioned either of the Port Orleans properties not being a bad idea to check out for a future trip. This led me to pricing out our stay at POFQ. When it came up about only $250 more than our current stay with a king bed (instead of the double beds), I was SO excited. I quickly text messaged my boyfriend and told him about it. While going back and forth with him, I realized that I had not rechecked the DDP (which was worked into our current package). Once I fixed the mistake, the price jumped up to $850 more. *sigh* Our dreams were dashed.. of course it was too good to be true.

Here is where my original post was going to end…

Last night, we decided to find out if we could at least switch to Pop Century since we knew we would have a better time there. Come to find out that there is nothing open at Pop, not even a standard room (we had a preferred at ASMo). The woman told me that it would be best to call in the mornings which are when the rooms are released if people do not pay their remaining balance.

This morning I called hoping something had opened up. The guy I got on the phone said there was still nothing at Pop. On a whim, I asked about pricing for standard rooms at Coronado Springs and POFQ. He priced out a standard room with two queens and then with a king, as well as a preferred king at CSR. The prices were not that bad of an upcharge. The guy was not all the excited to hear that I wanted to run it by the boyfriend before making a decision to spend more. Do they get a commission for what they book? I wouldn’t think so but I got that feeling from this guy.

Long story long, I put the decision in his hands telling him I would be comfortable paying around $300 more if a room in that price range made him happier. Later today he said go ahead a book a king room at POFQ. So I did, and here we are. I’m even more excited about our trip now! I get more stuff to look through so I can learn about our new home for six nights.

Any advice on our new lodging? Things not to miss?

I already said this to you in your PTR but CONGRATS on the upcoming graduation! What better way to celebrate than going to Disney!! Oh yeah, welcome to my PTR!

Hey guys! :wave2: Sorry I haven’t written in a while. I’ve been around on the boards but maybe in five minute spots here and there. I can’t stay away but I haven’t had time to write my latest post. Anyway, here it is…
The story behind the title of my PTR, “Got an ADR for Le Cellier! Maybe we should book the actual trip now.” I’m sure you’ve been dying to know what that’s all about. Maybe it’s self-explanatory.. I dunno. :confused3
In early January, my boyfriend and I had been joking around about going to Disney again for my graduation. He mentioned how we should get the DDP and check out the restaurants. He’d heard that Le Cellier is the place that Disney execs like to dine which would imply that it’s THAT GOOD. He also pointed out that if it’s that good, there’d be no way we’d get a reservation. On Sunday January 9th, after we got home from Liberty Travel where we got a price quote for what we wanted to do, I sat down with my laptop and randomly put in a date during our vacation. Lo and behold, 1:30pm on a Saturday there was an opening for two at Le Cellier! Holy crap! :scared1: I quick asked him if he wanted it since we could cancel later if we didn’t wind up going. About five minutes later, the boyfriend’s mom got on the phone with Disney to see if they could give us a better quote. By the time we finished giving all our information to the customer service rep, I had three other reservations all set through the website. :woohoo:
I’ll tell you where our ADR’s are if you promise not to stalk me… :lmao: We’re pizza, pasta, chicken, and steak people (which explains this flubber :rotfl2:)

Our plane should land around 9:40am on Thursday, May 19, we’re planning on making that an MK day so Tony’s Town Square at 7:45pm is where we’ll be that night.

I’m hoping their chicken parm is good.

Friday, May 20, 7:50pm – Teppan Edo

The only restaurant in this list we’ve been to before. The food is similar to the hibachi place near home but the show is wayyy better!

Saturday, May 21, 1:30pm – Le Cellier

The boyfriend is a huge steak fan. I’m boring and like chicken but I think their lunch chicken dish sounds tasty! I’m hearing so much about the cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier except the bacon would ruin it for me.

and for dinner, 7:45pm – Via Napoli

We’re looking forward to their pizza despite that we’re from the American Pizza Capital area.

Monday – we’ll be doing Typhoon Lagoon so we picked a restaurant that didn’t require a park pass. Raglan Road 7:15pm!

We’re not big on Irish fare or beer but the menu looks diverse enough that we’ll find something. Last trip we walked past here at night and it looked like the place to be so we want to try it. The reservation might be upped to four because I just found out one of the friends I’m graduating with will be down in Orlando for Universal. We might meet up this night. Fun!

Tuesday, our last full day in Disney… Nine Dragons is where we’ll be at 7:00pm

I’ve not heard too many raving reviews but their menu still sounds good. I want to try their General Tso’s dumplings and sesame chicken.

Now I ask you… did I make good decisions? Next time, I think we’re definitely going to try the other Italian restaurant in Epcot and Cinderella’s Table (I couldn’t spend 2 TS’s on this for our first time). What are your opinions on my ADR’s? Is there anything not to miss? Let’s hear it! :listen:

First let me say YIPPEEEE I saw you post elsewhere & see that we our trips will over lap a few days. I"m in! fun fun fun..
and HOW EXCITING to upgrade....don't give up hope on a pin anyway...I have signed up for "accounts" with three different email addresses & just got one two days ago that would have given us free dining...but my earlier pin was better, saved me more $$

Now, I can't resist chiming in.... I will just use a diff color!:rotfl:

We ate here during our first trip in 2007. I truthfully don't remember it being a stop the presses have to go back place, nor do I remember anything bad. But really, DH & I make really good italian food at home so we rarely go out for it...we are too fussy!

I think you must live near us. We are just on the Pennsy side of P'burg

OMG we just love love loved:love: this place! the steaks are awesome, the beer is mmmmmmmmmmm (and I am not a beer fan) THe only reason its not on our list is because we've been trying to broaden our butts...oops i mean horizons.:rotfl::rotfl:

I read a review on someone else's TR that made this high on my list of places to go to.... not sure if we will get there but it looks good

so are you really into asian & italian cuisine?? IMHO I did not find Cinderella's table worth 2 TS's. too much hype. its very pretty and all but I just didn't think the food was worth it. For that much money they should have better selections for the kids too. Our DD is always stuck with the same options on the kids menu and its not fair. she would much rather have a 4 oz steak done rare or some grilled chicken than pizza or chicken nuggets.

Looking forward to reading more...but now I have to go pick up my monkey. princess:

Hey there! Thanks for coming over! I'll venture over to yours right after I'm finished typing this...

and HOW EXCITING to upgrade....don't give up hope on a pin anyway...I have signed up for "accounts" with three different email addresses & just got one two days ago that would have given us free dining...but my earlier pin was better, saved me more $$

How did you get free dining at this point?? Jealous! Though now that I'm thinking about it, I'm wondering how much the difference would be compared to the deal we have on our package already.. Probably not much.

We ate here during our first trip in 2007. I truthfully don't remember it being a stop the presses have to go back place, nor do I remember anything bad. But really, DH & I make really good italian food at home so we rarely go out for it...we are too fussy!

Thank you for the honest opinion! I've heard things from both ends of the spectrum on this and it's hard to figure out how my experience might be. We'll see I guess! You have to try it yourself to find out. oOo good homecooked Italian food, I wouldn't go anywhere else either if you can get better at home!

I think you must live near us. We are just on the Pennsy side of P'burg

We're maybe 30 minutes from PA in Sussex County, NJ.

OMG we just love love loved this place! the steaks are awesome, the beer is mmmmmmmmmmm (and I am not a beer fan) THe only reason its not on our list is because we've been trying to broaden our butts...oops i mean horizons.

Good for you! I'm such a creature of habit that I was afraid of choosing some restaurants and being adventurous. What if I don't like it?? I think I wouldn't be as worried if it wasn't my money I was spending :rotfl: to have to run to the food court afterwards. Though I just saw the new lunch and dinner menus for Le Cellier. I am NOT impressed by them. I had my eyes on their lunch chicken dish - GONE! Boyfriend was expecting to be able to pick from a few different steaks.. very limited now. Oh well, we'll probably be trying new things next time too!

so are you really into asian & italian cuisine?? IMHO I did not find Cinderella's table worth 2 TS's. too much hype. its very pretty and all but I just didn't think the food was worth it. For that much money they should have better selections for the kids too. Our DD is always stuck with the same options on the kids menu and its not fair. she would much rather have a 4 oz steak done rare or some grilled chicken than pizza or chicken nuggets.

We are into more Asian, Italian, American cuisines so we figured these were our best bets for this trip. That's the sneaking suspicion I had.. that it's more about the atmosphere than the actual food. Very unfortunate. I'll get there someday. My boyfriend's dad keeps raving about the time boyfriend's SIL ran into (literally) Cinderella at the place. Nice story but if I'm paying, I'm going to get two awesome meals out of my credits! That stinks for your daughter. As much as I love chicken nuggets and pizza, they can definitely get boring if that's all you're allowed to choose from the whole stay.

BTW 75 DAYS UNTIL WE'RE WAKING UP AT SOME UNGODLY HOUR AND FLYING TO DISNEY!!!

Here's the thing you'll find annoying about this PTR: it's lacking plans. While I am usually a type A who will plan the crud out of every moment of my day, my boyfriend is such a laid back, nothing bothers him, I'm up for whatever type. This is sometimes frustrating for me, but not when it comes to Disney.

Of course I want to maximize my time as well as see EVERYTHING but I've come to find that's just not possible. Combine that with wanting to come back often, why would I want to see everything? There won't be anything to check out next time!

I didn't come to this kind of thinking easily. My boyfriend, as I think I mentioned, is a Disney-goer since about 2 years old. So he was the veteran on my real first time trip. He was very hands off about how things should be visited and what should be seen because he wanted to watch me explore the park on my own decisions. We did not have a plan of attack at all two years ago when we went. I got all the brochures I could carry and poured through them as we waited for our bus to MK the first day (what better place to start?) Each morning we would walk out to the buses at POP and sometimes pick the shortest line or whichever park looked like it was the most interesting for the mood I was in. Plus, you can never be sure that a ride won't be broken down or just how the crowds will be that day so I don't know how some plan certain rides for certain times. You have to be flexible, I've found.

While I am still neurotic about wanting to plan this current vacation (especially after finding these boards!), I remind myself of how relaxed I felt doing whatever whenever it felt right. :cloud9: If we were dragging by 2:00pm, we went back to the resort to nap and then went out again for dinner and more magic. It's actually why I was weary of the DDP this time because it felt like we would be roped into being at that park for a specific time instead of going wherever we felt like that day.

For those of you still wanting some kind of new content here...
Thursday: MK day - we're arriving around 9:30am, dropping off our bags and heading to the park. There will probably be a nap at some point since we'll have been up super early to catch the flight at 6:30am. (Yeah right, I'll probably be going over my packing list and won't be able to sleep anyway!) Then dinner at Tony's, then Wishes! My absolute favorite way to start out vacation at WDW!

Friday: Epcot Future World (and maybe some of the World Showcase) - Last time I don't think we took our time to look through Innoventions. I'm looking forward to eating at the Electric Umbella which was closed last visit (the Land Pavillion's food court thingy was :crazy2: IMO). I'm looking forward to checking out Ellen's (refurb) and Test Track (completely mobbed).

Saturday: AK Safari then Epcot World Showcase - We have lunch and dinner reservations for Le Cellier and Via Napoli respectively so we'll be around that area most of the day. AK I believe has EMH that day so we'll go there early then go to Epcot since the WS doesn't open until 11:00am. I said that we would probably start WS on Friday because last time we were dragging sooo badly by the end of it that I barely cared about Norway and Mexico over there.

Sunday: I don't know what we're doing. Maybe a half day for AK and DHS each? I know it's SWW and we're mild Star Wars geeks so we might want to see it since we're down there during the time. However, I really get agitated in crowds (I know, I shouldn't be going to WDW if that's the case!) so it might be more irritating than fun. Got to get boyfriend on RnR though!

Monday: We've reserved this as our Typhoon Lagoon day. I figure it's weekday so no local crowds and it's kind of early in the season yet. Originally we were looking into Universal for the day but between the cost and getting there we figured somewhere in Disney would be better. Then DTD (Raglan Road dinner).

Tuesday: Last day at WDW. Don't know about this one either. Last time we had an "extra" day too which became another MK day. I know we have Nine Dragons reservations for dinner but we'll see how much we get done of AK and DHS on Sunday.

Wednesday: Our flight is 11:00am so no parks for us but at least nothing too obnoxious to wake up for in the morning. Probably breakfast at the POFQ food court and that's it.

There ya go!

i can see how traveling as a couple vs as a family allows you to be a lot more spontaneous. do you have a smart phone? i just saw that Disney has expanded their mobile apps to aall sorts of smart phones. i just registered yesterday so that when we r there in may we will get messages about wait times etc. this year i signed up for touring plans as well to help me sort of set a path for the parks.

re SWW.. we r going to hsm on friday -- first day of sww but maybe not so crowded bcuz its a friday. we also are not big on crowds.

Yeah I bet it really is different with a family. Though I would think you would be able to plan even less stuff because of all the unexpecteds when it comes to kids. I'm actually planning on upgrading my phone to a smartphone close to when we leave so I'll have to ask your help on what to get and how to find the app.

Before I saw this, I was reading the SWW tips thread and started thinking it would make more sense to go on the first Friday. Hopefully it'll be less crowded like you said.

In other news, I GOT MY FIRST PIN TODAY!! It's one of those for free Q/S dining (at Values and Mods) that are coming out lately. Even if there were free dining rooms available for our dates at POFQ (which there aren't), we wouldn't save more since we used the 35% off room PIN (boyfriend's mom) and bought regular dining. I'm still SO excited that the Disney gods were listening to my attempts!

Yeah I bet it really is different with a family. Though I would think you would be able to plan even less stuff because of all the unexpecteds when it comes to kids. I'm actually planning on upgrading my phone to a smartphone close to when we leave so I'll have to ask your help on what to get and how to find the app.
;)happy to help!

its just exciting to get that little message, even if you're not using it, isn't it? though it kinda makes me want to plan another trip to use the FD!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

This is the one I've been reading - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2652926 ooo rope drop would be a good idea! What time do the resorts start sending buses in the morning? I've never been there so early :rotfl:

No kidding! :lmao:

Hi! :wave2:

Major congrats on your upcoming graduation! I think WDW is the best place to celebrate!

Anyway, don't mind me ... just gonna get comfy and lurk. :goodvibes

Oh ... before the lurking starts ...

We originally booked Raglan Road, but changed it to Maya's Grill once we changed resorts. (Just to keep us from having to leave the resort once we got back after AK - more pool time for us. I'm kinda torn on cancelling it though, it sounded awesome.)

We have a dinner booked at Tony's, and we're super excited. DH's best friend only has one TS rezzie booked, and its for Tony's as well (but not the same day as us).

We haven't considered your other TS picks yet, but they do sound yummy. Are you going to change Le Cellier to something else?

Hello and welcome! Thanks for stopping by :wave2:

I'll have to check out Maya's Grill's menu. I haven't heard of it. Maybe it'll be a contender for a future trip!

I'm torn about changing Le Cellier. It's the thing that got us rolling on booking this vacation and it would still be a good experience. If it turns out badly, we'll just not go back again but at least we'll know and will be able to say we were there. Have you guys looked at the new lunch menu for Le Cellier? What do you think of it? Kind of disappointing, right?

So I know it's been a while since I posted on here. I'm a really bad PTR writer. Unfortunately this is a really busy time for me and I won't have a lot of free time until close to the start of our trip. Anyway, here's what has transpired since last time. We're pretty much set on doing SWW on Friday so we can see it but hopefully with the least amount of people that weekend. I measured my favorite pink suitcase in hopes that it'll just make it under the carry-on measurements. I think it'll be all right! All my packing lists are written up and we went shopping around for smartphones last night as we both have upgrades. I can't wait to play with the Touring Plans app!

Yesterday was exactly 2 months until we're in Disney! Today is exactly 60 days!!

Here's a question for you guys, what's your favorite attraction/ride at each park?
