I am a new DVC member...I booked my trip for BWV (home) for April, but realized I will probably be in FL at Xmas with POINTS to burn. I called MS today, and they have availability at every resort for 12/31, 1/1 and 1/2. I am taking a1 br (I've got 2 kids, 2 and 4).

Any advice on which resort to pick? I know we are going at the absolutely MOST crowded days of the year, so that is a consideration...and my kids are little so that is also a consideration.

For anyone who has stayed a SSR, were the PI fireworks loud? I am afraid of that and my son would be totally freaked out (he goes to sleep at 7:30)

Thanks for any advice!

Because it is the most crowded time of the year, I would suggest either the BWV or BCV. Both are witin walking distance to MGM and EPCOT which makes for easy entry and escape, even when things are packed. I know VWL is great at that time of the year (I was there last Christmas) but being able to walk to the parks solves a lot of problems when it's very crowded.

HBC

For what it's worth, I agree with HBC.

Third on my list, following the same logic, would be SSR. With fewer than 200 rooms open, overcrowding on the WDW transportation shouldn't be an issue. And, that puts you within walking distance of Downtown Disney.

With regard to the PI fireworks, I thought I saw one post here that claimed they heard some noise from the fireworks at midnight. All of the others have said they didn't hear a peep with windows / doors closed.

FYI - We stayed at BCV last October and our DD(also afraid of fireworks) could hear the Illuminations fireworks everynight

NYE will have an incredible fireworks display throughout WDW at midnight. No matter which resort you are staying at, it will sound like an aerial attack. It's best to enjoy the show -- even if it's from you own resort.

I think it would depend on where you think you will spend most of your time. We also have a 4 yr old and the VWL works best for us since we spend most of our time at MK. The boat makes it so much more convenient to get to MK than any other resort. :earsgirl:

I would go with BCV to be close to Epcot or VWL to be close to MK

Have a great trip!

I was shocked, too...until I looked at a calendar. Both the 31st and 1st are weekends this year. The night of the 31st is 75 pts for a BCV 1B.

That's probably contibuting to the occupancy level to some degree.

foofanella,

Another vote for the BCV and BWV for easy access on a short trip during peak crowd times.

Also, welcome home and to our little community on the DIS :)

I don't think any resort would be a wrong decision...

For me though, it would depending on what I would be looking for from a three day trip... I have two children approximately the same age as yours, and in three days, we'd probabily only go to the MK... With MK being the main park on the trip, we'd probabily stay at VWL so that we could take advantage of the boat, given the crowds..

BWV is one of my home resorts as well... I love it at Xmas time, but unless you will be hitting both Epcot and MGM, you lose the advantage of staying "in the middle of the action".

Since its less than 7 months out and your not going to have the 11 month booking advantage, I would try to book a resort other than my home just to get a bit of a variety..

Now if you are just going to relax and hang out poolside... Any of the resorts would be a good choice.. :teeth:

I agree with Beca and tjkraz .. I am shocked as well. Living in Las Vegas, most of our regular customers make reservations before they leave from the last NYE stay. As busy as WDW is during that time period... it is amazing they still have available rooms 6 months out. I wish I was able to get away.

I'd love to bring in the new year at WDW, I think we'd stay at VWL for 2 main reasons, it's home for us and second, it's in the middle of everything but still off to the side "just enough" so you fell like you can get away from it all for a little while and with the crowds at max on those days, finding a way to get away from that would sometimes come in handy...

No matter what you select... it's going to be a GREAT trip!
