I am thrilled! I was really between the Nook and the Kindle and finally got the Nook. I have been able to download several library books which is what made the Nook the winner over the Kindle IMO. I am on the waiting list at my library to download several best sellers and I am just thrilled with this purchase.

The weight of the library books combined with picking them up and dropping them off has made this an ideal gadget for me. I am a voracious reader and the amount of free books out there, for download, is tremendous!

I found a nook board (don't have the link handy right now). Anyway someone suggested going onto Barnes and Noble website, click on eBooks, and then search for 0.00. Over 900,000 books were listed. I just bought mine and I love it.

I am torn between the Nook and the iPad. Did you consider and dismiss that as a choice? The iBooks app looks awesome.

Also sort the books by price lowest to highest. I was stunned by the number of books that were .01 and when I went to buy one the system didn't charge me for them.

Also, if you do decide to buy a book as opposed to borrowing one, you can link to Barnes & Noble thru Mypoints, ebates, etc. and get the discount credit:thumbsup2 Shop as though you were going to buy a regular book only click the link at the top of the page for e-books. The book will still automatically download to your nook.

If you are going to use the ipad for other things then the ipad is an excellent choice, but the price of the ipad as compared to the Nook made it out of my price range for an "ereader".

Plus, reading on a backlit screen is really tough on the eyes after a while and you can't use it outside in sunlight; so no beach, park, deck, etc., if they are sunny:goodvibes

plus, I think the nook is the only one that has the library book functionality, that's what made the decision for me.

I'm thinking of getting them for the kids for bday presents. I have been reading constantly since I got it. Can't say enough good things about it.

I did consider the ipad and dismissed it as too heavy and I didn't like that I couldn't read in the sun. The nook feels like a book and reads like one. THe library feature really sold me, plus I really love the touch screen vs the keyboard.

I will have to try sorting my books from lowest price to highest!

I bought my wife a Nook for mothers day and I ended up borrowing it so much she bought me one for fathers day. I love it! A friend at work has the iPad and Kindle. he says the iPad can be heavy and akward to read on.

how's it working in a two nook family? do you share the same account so you can easily share books? I'm thinking that's what I'll do with the kids

I got my nook for Christmas (well I got a cover for xmas and it came in mid January) and I LOVE it. I just learned today of a great site goodereader.com. I have subscribed for one month, 11.99 and I can download as many books as I want!

DD11 just got one and is having difficulty figuring out how to get them from the library website. Is it complicated or just us?

I think it depends upon your library website. My library has clear directions on the website on how to download and utilize the books try checking their instructions. For my library Once I've downloaded the book to my computer I have to side-load it onto the Nook. Depending upon your library's tracking system you may have to have the Nook hooked up to the computer and download the book right onto the Nook. Make sure you are placing the books in the My Documents folder - if you are placing them in any other folder on the Nook they will not appear and may make the other documents on your Nook disappear. Also once you've side loaded and disconnected from your computer make sure you tell the Nook to check for new content.

my library uses Overdrive and Adobe Digital Editions. I can try to help if yours uses that.

Took my Nook into B&N today and was able to download exclusive while I was in the store for free. What a great feature!

My hubby bought me a nook also last week and I LOVE it. I have hesitated on it for a while b/c I wasn't sure if I'd really use it enough to make it worth the price. I haven't put it down! There are so many places you can pull it out and read that I would have never dreamed of doing before. It's so convenient. Can't say enough good things about the Nook.

I carry it everywhere now. It has brought back my favorite pastime because of being able to make the font so big. It's brought me so much joy to be able to read with ease again.

I screwed up initially when I downloaded the books from the library. Now I have to wait 20 days until they expire before I can fix the problem and take out new ones, arghh.

this board should get a cut of the profits for all the free advertising the Nook is getting, lol

Don't feel bad, I did the same thing. I didn't realize they were audio books and 4 was the limit. Well luckily I only checked out 3 audio books so I was able to check out one library book, but no early check in for audio books, which is weird.

Luckily, I have access to another public library where the limit is 10.

I also must say, I did have some issues installing adobe digital and figuring how to side load but now that I have it figured out, it was well worth it!

I can not wait till they get Pandora app to run with the Android OS and we can have that running while we read.

I know we can have our mp3's going (which is darn nice) but I love Pandora on top of reading

Oh! and don't forget to check the B&N blogs each friday. There is a free book that you can download for the weekend only. The book is usually a former best seller. I got a Debbie Macomber book a couple of weeks ago (book 1 in the Blossom Street Series) and in a couple of days the price was back up. There have been other good books as well, a thriller, some sci-fi, etc.
