So today I noticed that my return flight had dropped by $21/person. Called SW and they told me how easy it is for me to change my reservation online, which I did - quick and painless. :woohoo:

Now I have a $42 credit, with no current plans to fly anywhere else in the next 11 months. Is it possible to apply it to Early Bird Check In for the flight I have booked now? I just went through the steps to try it, but I stopped when it asked me for a credit card number.

I was thinking maybe I will be able to, but just not yet. Maybe I have to wait a certain amount of time for my $42 credit to be processed...?

Anybody know about this?

Thanks!

I don't fly Southwest very often so I am pretty clueless about this but when you get your credit, don't you have to "re-book"? When you re-book, can't you just add the EBCI to the second reservation and be all set. Can someone confirm this? Maybe you need to cancel first, get the credit then re-book?

This isn't the kind of question that's up for discussion. There is a definitive answer. The answer is no. People who want confirmation can take a look at flyertalk or call Southwest. The OP tried and failed. That's really all you need to know.

You need "new money" to purchase EBCI. Your credits are available instantly. Many of us needed to cancel a reservation to pay for a DING. Two browser windows. The credit is available to pay for the new reservation instantly.

A poster who said he's pretty clueless doesn't have anything intelligent to add to this thread.

No, it is not necessary to rebook to take advantage of a lower fare. You can change your reservation, take the lower fare, get the credit and you're done. You can use the credit associated with that reservation within 1 year of original purchase. Unfortunately, you can not use any credits to purchase EBCI.

Even if you did rebook using your credit, you have to go to a separate screen to purchase EBCI and there is no "travel funds" option available.

Wow, wake up on the wrong side of your cave today? The OP just switch the ressie and was given a credit. Did not cancel and re-book which is I posted asking the question. If I knew the answer, I wouldn't have asked (duh!). I'll give Southwest a call...Thanks for your help. Go troll over on flyertalk...

Perfect. Thanks for the answer and clearing this up for me. :goodvibes

AFAIK you need to cancel and rebook if you're going from a "regular" fare to a DING fare. You can change your itinerary, but keep your original flights if you just want credit resulting from a lower fare.

You can't use TTF to pay for EBCI.

I answered the OPs question. A troll would be the poster who admitted he's pretty clueless but asked if other posters could confirm what I posted. Sorry if my post sounds "harsh" but I thought the poster who's pretty clueless was kind of rude implying the OP could have used TTF if they did it differenty and implying I don't know what I'm talking about.

True, I should have stated, unless you are taking advantage of a DING fare, then it is necessary to cancel and rebook.

I knew what you meant, I wasn't sure other people reading your post would.

You have to fly within one year of your original reservation. It's not enough to just make a reservation within a year.

Again I'm sure you know this but not everyone reading this thread knows it.

My question has been answered, thank you! I hope everyone has a magical day!

A person who is pretty clueless asks questions which is what I was doing (thanks for bolding by the way, i couldn't see it without the bolding). A message board responder (like disneyfaninaz) answers the question with answers like "you have to go to a separate screen to purchase EBCI" explaining why what I was suggesting would not work. A troll (you) is "someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response " which is exactly what you did. You are a troll...go away troll we don't want you here. I guess, by responding I am feeding the troll. I will stop now...

I accurately answered the OPs question. Feel free to put me on your "ignore" list.

Don't know if there is a 'history' here, but I really don't much care if there is. It's pretty hard to be a troll with over 10,000 posts..so that description isn't going to fit here.
The question was answered, and answered correctly. I won't tolerate name calling or other less than courteous behaviour here. Bad enough that we don't allow pixie dust....we have to have some semblance of manners. So...long story short...KNOCK IT OFF!!!!

As noted, the question has been answered....this thread is done.
