Gosh, don't you just love not having to worry about codes!

I am really enjoying our DVC membership. I do not miss worrying about if Disney will release a code or special for the times we want to vacation. We will soon be Vacation Club members for two years and we are so glad we joined.

Our pattern has been three trips a year. It's so great to just call member services, book your trip, and you're set. My husband and I think we'll break even on what we've spent on dues and buy-in costs in about five years. Then we'll be vacationing on dues alone.

I agree with you completely. We have always vacationed during high cost (few if any codes), holiday periods. Getting a 2BR DVC unit has saved us tons of money over having to get two adjoining rooms at any of the deluxe resorts.

Oh, almost forgot, I love NOT having to pay that $25.00 extra adult charge that we were paying when we stayed at a deluxe when the kids reached 18 years old.

Though I don't worry about codes, I do find them useful. I recently booked the AKL for a fantastic AP rate starting just after Christmas - the rate at this resort was tempting enough to book it for a week and then cancel (!) my OKW 1-br reservation made back in January.

I look at it this way - if we want to splurge and stay at a nicer resort than we would have stayed at before dvc it is something that we can do because we have the extra money for that now because of dvc. We'll still do many of our trips at dvc resorts using points, because we are spoiled rotten there.

DVC really does kinda raise the bar on what one expects, though. When I was planning our first trip to WDW back in '99, I initially thought we might stay in the value resorts because of money. We actually started off in the moderates - Dixie Landings. Now, because of our expectations due to aur DVC stays we look forward to deluxe stays possibly combined with dvc stays.

What's REALLY nice is not having to share a bedroom (after all, what else is a regular hotel room?) with a 16 year old, then 17, 18 and now 20 year old son.

I love him dearly,but I'd just as soon NOT have to share a bedroom. He takes up a LOT of space, and we like a little privacy on vacations!

It was last summer's whole "AP Rate Craziness" - and all you DVCers saying 'glad we don't have to worry about them' that first turned our focus onto the DVC.

Another Big Fat Yipee from me!!! The whole code thing is enough to drive one up a wall.

Even with codes, I still couldn't spend 30 nights at Disney like I can with DVC.

Before DVC, we usually did room only, so after coming home you had the large bill to look at. What's nice about DVC is you only have the bill for your expenses.

We had a non-DVC trip 2 weeks ago at CBR and the thing we missed most was a refrigerator. I thought it was ridiculous to rent one for $10.65 a night. We always have leftovers from meals, so we put them in the refrigerator and microwave them later when at a DVC resort.

As a brand new DVC member, I have a question for those of you that book using reg./code rates and DVC points. Do you actually stay at a DVC resort then change over to a 'regular' resort using code rates for a week-end and then go back to DVC resort on Sunday?? Or do you just book using a code for Fri-Sat, then change to points on Sunday? Thanks a bunch.

When we travel in the winter (we live in Indiana) I always book a cash night on Saturday when we fly in (All Stars or somewhere cheap) because I don't trust Indiana winter weather. IF the flight gets cancelled, I'd rather it not mess up my DVC reservation. We usually check in on Sunday on points for five or six nights (depending on how many we've got left for our winter trip).

Our May and Sept/October trips are always just on points (6 or 7 nights on DVC points).

We are still waiting for AP rates for our weekend nights (the only weekend we plan to use points on will be during our NYE trip next year - doesn't a lot make sense to pay cash then, and have to change rooms). We hope to stay at AKL Concierge prior to our VWL stay, and then stay at YC or BWI prior to our BWV stay (we'll probably end up at the Dolphin - right now it is around $300 a night cheaper for two rooms!).

Can't wait to see *my* two bedroom DVC villa, though!
