Gosh Darn Nice People Here!

I agree with everyone comparing Dis to other Disney boards. I have only poked around at the WDW boards when we were contemplating a trip. But I have to say we backed out of the WDW trip mostly because it (WDW and finding helpful info ) seems so overwhelming. We will stick with Disneyland :cool1:
I have never found anything useful at micechat other than the articles by darkbeer and Al. I dislike the constant "ideas" for improvement and "shoulda done it this way threads" and like others have said I realize they are mostly locals and young (without children) so DL is something different to them as it is to me (older lol with kids)
now for the Dis I have recieved so much valuable timesaving stress relieving info that I could probably write a book. The Dis makes we want to go and go and go to DL where the others make me squirm.

And to Hydroguy :goodvibes your tips and tricks have maximized my DL enjoyment, those kids at micechat are just jealous! Lol :rolleyes1 they can't have you!!! Lol

I feel like such a novice that these are really the only boards I ever frequent. I found these boards and never really looked back.

Yup, when I first started looking for DLR tips & tricks in 06 I found this board.....and a few others....I stayed here when it became obvious that real people post here, not just trolls and snarkers. :) And here I've stayed.....I do occasionally stray but I don't post, all my posts are done here. :)

I have loved this thread, as we calmly and politely discuss why we are a calm and polite bunch :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:.

Seriously, I just enjoy checking up on the Disneyland Thread a couple of times a day. I really enjoy reading a trip report from someone who was a total newbie when they came to the board for info/help and then had a fabulous time and wowed their family with the pixie dust they picked up here:wizard:.

Disney is our favorite "drug" and you guys are the best "dealers" around. We will be there December 12th and I can't wait for my next fix. All kidding aside, you guys are just :littleangel:.

As to Hydroguy's very chivlrous comment that a higher percentage of females has led to our softer side, I just had to chuckle. I was a high school teacher back when I got a paycheck, and while I would wade into almost any fight between boys and break it up, I wouldn't get between two fighting girls for ANYTHING. We women can be amazingly vicious!:rolleyes1

Eeyore's Wife is right - women can be some of the most vicious creatures around if the right buttons are pushed!:rotfl:

Being a woman AND a lifelong SoCal resident/DLR-lover, I am not sure how much the actual 'tone' of this section of the DIS has to do or does not have to do with either of those things, but when I have, er, uh, 'ventured to the other side' to see what my fellow mods are having to cope with in WDW-land, I am shocked and overwhelmed. Not only are the threads incredibly fast-moving over there and hard to follow, but there are so many short fuses and angry dsagreements that break out over simple questions. People kind of 'gang up' over there. Also, when I have ventured totally off of the DIS to other boards, while I do appreciate the photos and updates, I find that the threads are either too hostile in nature or, let's be frank, colorless and boring. I think the moderators on those other boards - as well as on any non-Disney boards - have a lot to do with how smoothly things run (and no, I am not trying to score some points for us DIS mods here because I thought this before I ever became one). Many of the mods either let controversial things go on too long or they cut certain subjects off too soon, often leaving the posters confused as to what they can and cannot delve into.

Something about our little corner of the DIS makes people feel comfortable and welcome. Yes, we cover the same angles and subjects repeatedly - but we enjoy doing it. No one is left out here. If you have never been to DLR or if you have been there 1000 times, your questions and knowledge are encouraged. Someone who just went to DLR for the first time ever may have noticed a little detail or nuance that the most seasoned DLR visitor overlooked. So all stories and Trip Reports and photos are welcome. Yes, it is not always entirely sunshine and moonbeams here - there are random disagreements and hot topics and I have had had to lock some threads and issue warnings and all that good stuff here and there, as have the other mods, of course (big props and shout-outs to Mary Jo and Judy!:goodvibes), but overall, this is an extremely cordial, fun and communal bunch of folks who just love to get together and share their common love of DLR. When I read many posts on other boards, I see a lot of facts, opinions and information, for sure, but I don't always see or sense the same 'love' for DLR coming through in the posters' words as I do here on our board.

Might I also add that I have made some good friends here in the DL section of the DIS - really decent, kind people. And though I have not been as 'present' on the open forum lately for various reasons (hoping to make up for that now), I received lovely private messages and posts on my TR from my DIS-friends, wondering where I was and saying they missed me, etc. Good bunch of people here!:thumbsup2

I think it also helps that a lot of Aussies post here :rotfl: We're a good bunch.

I do love it here though. It's been an awesome place to get hooked on. I've never been on the WDW site.

:rotfl: Yay!

You guys are great here, I love coming on everyday to check out the latest news. It makes me feel part of a little community!!

I agree with the folks who say this is a very friendly board! While I don't post here as much, I find the discussions to be more friendly (and thus more useful) than other DL message boards. I do visit other DL boards and can occasionally find some fun trip reports and nuggets of information, but the negativity and unfriendly tones in many of their threads makes it very difficult.

So, a BIG THANK YOU Disneyland DISers!

I have to say that this thread made me smile! I am planning a (oops, 2) trip to WDW. After 3 trips to DLR (2 with DIS), I am having to frequent the WDW side. I have to say that I really haven't seen a whole lot of hatefulness on most of the WDW side...until tonight. I had seen some strong personal opinions (trying to be PC) on the Transportation board before, but I still waded in on a thread tonight. The replies were pretty mean, as far as I was concerned. I had to come to my favorite side to calm down, and I saw this thread. :yay::cool1::woohoo: I'm feeling so much better now!!! Thank you! I miss DLR, but maybe another AP in 2011 would help. Mine just expired. :headache: Thank you so much for being the great group that you are!!!:grouphug:

I would add to all of the great comments that I have spent lot of time of DIS WDW and then on several other non-DIS DLR sites. While DIS DLR is the friendliest of all, I have found DIS WDW to be much better than the other DLR sites. In other words, yes DIS DLR is better than DIS WDW, but the other non-DIS sites are much worse than either. :)

LOL, but I posted some of my "tips" over there that some people here find very useful and I got flamed and laughed at by several people. In truth I expected it but, wow, why are people that way? :confused3 I rarely post over there anymore. I do read - but not as often as I used to. I know there are people that know alot more about DLR that I do - but give me a break.

That's just plain rude, IMO! I'm glad you didn't let them get you down. You have some GREAT tips and you can tell you've taken alot of time to research them. I know I speak for many DIS'ers here when I say we appreciate you! :)

I LOVE DIS DLR :lovestruc:lovestruc We just came back Sunday from a week at DL. My husband and I have gone a few times before (DD 3 times). Before I found DIS DLR, we just pretty much did the same thing each time we went...had fun but missed alot. This time after reading different advice here and TR's, we did things a bit different and it was so much nicer! even with the Halloween crowds, we saw and did all that we wanted :cheer2: though I must admit the husband was getting a little tired of me saying "on DIS they say" :rotfl2: I don't spend a lot of time over at DIS WDW it just overwhelmed me while planning a WDW trip last year. Thank goodness for DIS DL!

Kris

HG getting flamed for his tip threads would be like Mozart getting flamed for his music. :rotfl:

What's ironic is that HG bends over backwards to state that there are many local DL visitors who know as much (or more) than he does. Also, he bends over backwards to seperate his opinions from facts. (He just went to the trouble to organize all this great info so the rest of us can use it & enjoy our favorite parks & attractions).

I had 1000 posts on the WDW boards (researching for a couple of WDW trips a few years ago) prior to even coming to the DLR board. I enjoyed many of the characters over on the WDW board. But for me, the info was dispersed in so many areas & many opinions were so wildly different, it was often hard for a newbie to get a handle on things.

Here, the info seems consistent (yes we all have different opinions & likes) & when there are different opinions here on DLR Dis, it's normally presented nicely & differences are presented as more of an expanded opinion or an extra option as opposed to a "that person is wrong" statement.

To me, the DLR board seems like a small town community as opposed to a big city community (for the WDW boards)...everyone is a neighbor in a small town & we DLR disers for the most part act neighborly to one another. :goodvibes

On the other hand....that Hydroguy dude is just plain wrong with his opinion on Screamin'.....;) One of the top 5 rides at the resort. :lmao:

I agree. I don't know what it is about this board but I love it. I think a lot of it is we are regular tourists who just plain love going on vacation and Disneyland happens to be a place we all love to go. We aren't trying to show off on this board, but get good tips and help where we can. There also seems to be a general feeling that there are many ways to do a Disneyland vacation right :)

I think that's exactly it! I've been reading the WDW boards for years planning multiple WDW trips, but never posted before I found this great DL forum. The DL experts here are welcoming and helpful to those of us who are learning, and respectful and friendly with each other. Thanks! (And if I can ever try to help with any WDW tips, please let me know!)

I am a avid poster on WDW forums. And just came to the DL boards. But I have to say as much as I love WDW. These boards are allot more friends. I am planning our family's first trip to DL!!!!! And I love reading how friendly and Helpful you guys are over here. I have gotten into a few tiffs over there that has caused me to take a mini vacation from the boards and I haven't encountered that here.:thumbsup2

I mostly lurk here, and I have peaked at the WDW board with the thought of one day, going to Epcot, and the other parks. But, the original Disneyland has my heart. I think the boards are separated by, if you want rides, and be on a clock then go to WDW, if you want rides, plus history, plus magic you cannot explain, you go to DL (that is where Walt still lives). ;) Here, we have the Disney magic in our heart. We truly get what Walt was doing, and we want to share the magic!

I was just at DLR for a week and missed my DIS friends, since we were so tired and busy that I didn't find time to even check on the board. I had to come back and read through a couple of pages of posts and catch up on some Trip reports and think about posting my own experiences. Still thinking about posting about our experiences - haven't made up my mind yet!

Ditto that ^^^^^

The only thing that can curb Disboard withdrawal is to actually be at the parks!

:wave2: Hi Brady's Mom. I'm bummed I never ran into you all week.

We definately have a better "vibe" than the WDW boards. Example:
Here in the DL board, someone can ask a question about bringing food in and get honest answers, recent experiences, etc. If you wanted to ask that question in the Budget Board, it would spark a debate on the morality of bringing food, the money you are stealing from Disney and the park bench you are stealing from them, the paying customer. Then you would hear how you are robbing your children of the unique experience of Disney Dining, and if you cannot afford make every meal a character meal, why bother going? Which will explode into an inquiry of the mortgage on your house, your car payment, credit card debt and student loans, ending in the judgement that if you carry any of those debts, and don't pay cash for your trip, how dare you even think about going on vacation.

And as for the other non-DIS Disneyland board, I was really active over there when I first moved to SoCal, getting to know Disneyland, and at the height of the 50th celebration. I guess i outgrew them, especially since alot of the posters on there are very anti-family (how dare we bring children to Disneyland!) and just nit-picky. I'm at peace walking through DCA, even if Monsters Inc makes no sense in a Hollywood Backlot. I'm just happy to be at Disneyland!

I had gone to DLR for 5 years and used this board soooo much. FP and HG so wonderful.... I have never rode on so many rides in one day and now my family depends on me to ride so much and get so much done. Rollercoaster fanatics but still princess girls.

Last year my parents took us to WDW, which I had been to 5 times as a kid/20something but not as a mom.

I was so missing the disboards. There wasn't one good site with all of the info together. Too much spread out between the sites and I didn't get a good answer on park and ride questions like I do here.

I did use HG WDW which helped, thanks to DLR posters again.

We did do fine but it was a lot harder to find what I was looking for.

The biggest problem was I was being told that FP at WDW were restricted to the time range on the ticket, oh was that setting me up for a change of planning, we are the type who come back hours later.
We got to the parks and no one ever held us to the FP. I was back in stride with our DLR strategies.

This board is so wonderful, THANKS!!!!!
