Gordon Lightfoot

We’ve lost a great Canadian music icon. We are thankful for his music and the legacy he has left us.
I just saw this on the news. I have always enjoyed his music and he will be missed.

That's a shame. Only 2-1/2 years until the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I was hoping he would be able to make an appearance at the anniversary.

Always loved riding down the road with the windows down and cranking up some Carefree Highway!

RIP Very sad... I was a kid when the Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald was released and asked my parents to keep replaying it.

There's a Carefree Highway in Arizona, just north of Phoenix. Gordon Lightfoot saw it and said:

“I thought it would make a good title for a song,” he said. “I wrote it down, put it in my suitcase and it stayed there for eight months.”

There’s a video on YouTube of him introducing “Carefree Highway” live in Reno, Nevada, where he says, “I used to write things down on pieces of paper while traveling around. You know, I’d write down a line or a title. And this one almost got left in the glove compartment of a car in Phoenix, Arizona.”

You’re welcome.

Beato’s Lightfoot tribute also goes into a few more of his magnificent songs.
Just muted Lakers & Warriors and gave it a listen - what a treat yet again.
Grateful to you, thank you so much.

----------

My first three albums were Gord's Gold, Rumours and The Stranger. So Billy Joel saying he wrote Always A Woman as an hommage to Lightfoot's craft was very interesting to hear.

I don't know how the heck I had Lightfoot in my hands at eight 🤭, but I remember buying or asking for Billy Joel at ten. What a great three album start in life. Songwriting at its best.

I got The Stranger when it came out (1978) from my piano teacher, as a reward for getting ten 100s in a row on my lessons. I was 12. I loved it and wasn’t a bit surprised that it’s become an all-time classic.

There were so many iconic Singer Songwriters in the 1970s!

Billy Joel
Harry Chapin
Jim Croce
James Taylor
Carley Simon
Carole King
Jackson Browne
Van Morrison
etc.

And Gordon Lightfoot was right there with them.
