Gorda Cay aka CC

Thanx Madcoco...
Great article and found others on the net afterwards where students from a nearby island school spent a day there while Castaway was being built by Disney.
I didn't really realize the history or geographical location until I started looking on maps but great info :)
Cheers,
Grumbo

Grumbo, I've seen the Outside Mag article, but I haven't seen the second article you mentioned. Do you have a link?

Thanks, Madcoco! Really interesting article. I can't get my husband too excited about our cruises, but this article really got his interest up. He loves history. Thanks again.

Thanks for the second link, Grumbo.

As for building a resort there, I refer to this quote from the article:

While the girls asked questions about how things would be when the project was in full operation, Richie Fawkes had a different agenda. As a Sandy Point man and Abaconian reporter who had, like me, known Gorda Cay in its pristine era, he wondered about the environmental impact of so many visitors to such a gem of an island. "Only a small percentage of the cay will be open to visitors," Steve assured us. "The rest will remain natural and undisturbed."

Both Richie and I knew that Gorda Cay, undisturbed, meant plenty of sand flies and mosquitoes at times. "Disney has investigated that," said Steve. "Passengers will be on the cay between 7.30 am and 4.30 pm, not prime time for insects."

Your welcome. Thanks for the link to the 2nd article.:)
