GoPro?

Does anyone have one & can give some insight? We’re considering getting one for my stepson for Christmas. He is in marching band and a lot of the college students wear them while marching. He wants one, but I’m not sure if the cheapest one is sufficient for his needs? It looks like the Hero8 is on sale for Black Friday for $249. The actual GoPro website has the same camera for $279, but this includes a 1 year subscription. Do we need the subscription? I like that it includes up to 2 replacement cameras each year, but no clue if we’d need that or not. It also includes cloud storage and some editing tools. No clue if he’ll want that or not either.

Anyone have any insight?
