My family did a gift tag for a 13yo boy. In this case it is one through CPS Foster Care.

He asked for a Coby Touch mp3 player. I found one at TRU for $40 and it pretty much looks like a generic iPod Touch in the packaging.

How does he put music on it? I was thinking of getting a Google Play card. Would that work?

Yes, that will work from the Google music service.

If the player doesn't have a rip cable, be sure to add one. IME, most kids who are candidates for these gift programs don't have access to a home pc; they are going to need to use a school or library PC for the downloads if they are trading music with other people. To that end, you also might want to give the kid a large thumb drive, plus a mini-sd card with a usb adapter, so that he can get music off of other people's phones, and back up the music in case the MP3 player fails (Coby doesn't have the most stellar reputation in that regard.)
