Which tablet would best suit my 4 and 9 year old? I currently have an IPAD and they love it but it is mine and they need their own. An Ipad is to expensive for me to purchase one for each one of my children so I have to go cheaper. I am going to buy 2 one for each child. I want to get them the same type so they do not argue over them. Which would be my best choice Google Nexus, Itouch, or Kindle Fire?

I can only comment on the iTouch and Kindle Fire. To me, the Fire's interface isn't nearly as user-friendly as Apple's. If you have an iPad, your kids are already familiar with how it works, and the iTouch works similarly. Also, the iTouch will be a bit easier for them to carry around than the Kindle.

Great thread! I can't wait to see what everyone says as I am in a similar situation. I went ahead and bought the Princess LeapPad for my 3 year old, but don't know what to get the 5 year old. They fight over my Ipad. I'm hoping there are some great deals between now and Christmas.

I am thrown another suggest out there. I have thought about getting the kids android phones that can be use similar too a ipod touch.

I bought all three kids 6, 9, 9 android phones from cricket Samsung vitally. My kids use as there similar to ipod touch. Best part at all 3 three for less than 150.00 total. They was 49.99 brand new.

I think should looking new kindle fire, Nexus 7, Samsung Tab, Surface from Microsoft.

The kids is getting a tablet for Christmas and I know for sure it's not be ipad mini that coming out. Unless Apple have for less 200.00 dollars.

I don't think I could really compare the itouch to the other 2. It's not really the same thing.

We own 2 kindle fires and a nexus 7. They are both similar in size and app choices. Probaly your best bet is to look at the app stores on amazon and on google play (I think that's what the Nexus has) and see which has things your kids would like.

For kids that age that already know the apple aps, stick with that, ipod touch. The ipad mini is supposed to be announced in October. I would wait to check that out before buying anything.

DD (and I) have the ACUS tablet. It is great. We looked at the Fire at Christmas, but this one was more "open" to user interface and allowed us to put movies, music, etc on there and we weren't tied to any one software. I picked it up for around $200 on Black Friday last year. DD is 5, if that helps.

Don't know about the Nexus, but the iTouch is definitely a friendlier interface than the Kindle Fire, plus it has a camera/video camera (which my kids love to play on). The kids can also Facetime with their grandparents and their cousins :thumbsup2. If you're really wanting a tablet, I would wait to see if the iPad mini rumors are true. --Katie

I love my Kindle Fire but it isn't a very good fit for a child (at least for my child). The parental controls are almost useless (though they are getting better with each software update) and if someone plans on sharing an account with their child they have to be very careful about what they purchase because all purchases show up on the Fire's carousel, whether you want it to or not.

I have heard really good things about the Nexus 7 and I think that will be the way I go with my daughter. However, since you already have an iPad the iTouch might be a better option for you, since you will not have to worry about repurchasing games and apps. You might also want to wait and see if the iPad mini (7 inch iPad) rumors are true.

There are a lot of big rumors the mini iPad with a 7 inch screen will be announced Sept or Oct. Rumor also thinks it will not have a retina screen, so it will come in with a much lower price point than the current iPads to better compete with the lower end tablet market. Most kids probably would not care about a retina screen. My kids LOVE their iTouches. I would wait a little longer before making a purchase. The iPhone 5 is rumored to be introduced on Sept 12th and sales starting Sept 21th. iPad mini may or may not be announced then.

i got the kindle fire for our DS (10) just a few wks ago and he luvs it. he reads, watches movies, plays games and he can surf the web. hes been asking for it for a while and its the best investment
