Google Earth Walt Disney World

Just want to mention how much flying-and crashing-with Google Earth is! :rotfl2: So far, I've crashed into the front door of the Boardwalk Inn, right in the middle of the lake in the World Showcase, and the Wilderness Lodge. :rotfl:

I have never done Google Earth before... Gonna go try and get my WDW fix lol

I wonder if the objects on the island are chicken coops. I read that Disney keeps 8 flocks of "Sentinel" chickens around the resort to check for mosquito born diseases. That would be a good location.

If you haven't checked it out recently, Google Earth has made HUGE improvements in the details of the Walt Disney World area. My partner has spent the last week "flying" (using Google Earth and the "Flype" app) flying from EPCOT, around the WS, to MK, AK, DHS, and all the resorts. The level of detail in every building is pretty awesome. And best of all, no construction! :rotfl:

What is "Flype" app? :confused3

I had to go get the flype app (it is something on iphones and ipad and you have to have a mac computer too I am pretty sure). I am not very good with it yet. I spend a lot of time way high in the air and then randomly zooming away, lol.

OK.

What the heck is this at 28.412334,-81.582001?

It is in the center of the middle of the three islands in the Seven Seas Lagoon? No dock on the island either.

  • Bomb shelters?
  • Hazardous waste site at WDW?
  • Ultra Secret Ft. Wilderness Campground extension?
  • Elvis is really alive and those are air vents to his underground mansion?

Later,
Dan

How about a launch site for fireworks?

How about a launch site for fireworks?

They don't generally fire them from there.
Although that kind of looks like it could be used as a launch site.
There are some spectacular fireworks shows during the fireworks industry conventions held at WDW.

As a visual comparison-
Below are some views of where they launch the nightly main MK fireworks
(And, some are launched from the roofs of the castle & some Fantasyland buildings.)

Those containers look VERY similar to the ones that appeared to be on the island. I think Jeff may be right. Perhaps that was a location for the perimeter fireworks during the Summer Nighttastic stuff? A bit of a distance away though...

Are you guys talking about the iPad/iPhone flype app that has pretty bad reviews?? Is it really worth the $? Is it any different from just swiping around in google maps?

The wave machine was on another island, Beachcomber Isle, west side of Poly across from Luau Cove.
And a picture from Google Earth 2009:

That's where I thought it was orginally as well but those rectangles sure look manmade.

I have a feeling they are simply an artifact of the imagery, and not any sort of actual feature or structure.

I thought of that too but looking at other parts of the lake and lagoon doesn't show anything but surface waves.
:confused3

Don't know aboout the bad reviews, but my SO LOVES Flype. He uses his iphone as the "remote", and it is much smoother than swiping around Google Maps.
