Goofy's Great Birthday Bash NEW 6/2 page 34

WOW...just over a month. Do you have the 'pre-vow renewal' jitters? ;) I bet you will have the best trip of your life! I cannot wait to read all about it! Has everything come together?

The only jitters i'm having are about it not going perfectly. planning a VR/Wedding on DCL is definately not the magical wedding expeirece you would expect from Disney Fairy Tale Weddings. HOPEFULLY I should start to get confirmations of the time and choices we made in the next week or so. I will definatelty be having a long report for the land and cruise trip!

the morning at Yacht club looks so relaxing! Captains Grille sounds nice....um....except for all the fish! EW! I'm a steak and potatoes kinda girl! :lmao:

Sounds like a lovely relaxing morning and wow your dessert looks delicious :goodvibes

Great updates! Pool time sounded fun and I loved the holding hands pic. Loved all of the pics from the Yacht Club, especially the monkey lamp. DH is a big fan of all things monkey and he was tickled to see that picture. We'll have to take a walk to the YC in 2 weeks when we're there to check it out for ourselves. :thumbsup2

Jay,
Too bad about the arcade at BWI. I'm glad that everything else was excellent. The foods at the club lounge sounded and looked great. I do like the way your 1st day ended. Very cute pictures from the pool!

The 2nd day is sounding terrific also. I considered eating at the Captain's Grill on my next trip. I would like to do more TS meals at the resorts instead of the parks. But convenience and time are huge factors. That may be why the Grill was not very busy. Especially since it was lunch. The lobster roll and pie looked very good.

Day 2...A DTD Afternoon!

After our delicious lunch we made our way out to the bus stop at the Yacht Club and jumped aboard Disney's bus system. I am admittedly a 'bus snob' so take my comments on Disney's bus system in that light. AHHHHHHH...I really disliked having to go to the Swan, the Dolphin, the Yacht Club, the Beach Club, Blizzard Beach (or was it Typhoon Lagoon?), Pleasure Island and then finally DTD. What a long ride (and I may have the order wrong, but we did stop all of those places). Ish, I would rather hand a cab driver a ten and be done with the trip in just a few minutes. ;)

Once we did finally arrive, we had a fun afternoon exploring the market place together. Our first stop was the personalize-your-own-shirt shop. I will keep the details of his shirt under wraps until the shirt makes an appearance later in the TR.

Next up, another personalize-your-own-item...this time it was Mickey ears!
Here is the machine they embroider your name with.
wdw09180.jpg

wdw09181.jpg

The final product (it's hard to see but he has a sorcerer Mickey patch on the front middle, his ears are black velvet and his name is on the back).
wdw09182.jpg

And our final personalize-it-item...a gingerbread Mickey Mouse. This tasty treat was one credit on the snack plan. I thought it was a very good deal and use of a snack credit. Goofy chose to have his Mickey dipped in white chocolate.
wdw09183.jpg

After Mickey took a white chocolate bath, he got an m-n-m massage. Ha ha.
wdw09184.jpg

Watching his Mickey treat come to life.
wdw09192.jpg

The very sweet CM who made the sweet treat.
wdw09193.jpg

While we were there, I saw a giant Mickey Mouse krispy treat. I bet that would be a VERY tasty treat. I am planning on ordering one for Aladdin's birthday celebration in December.
wdw09186.jpg

Here's the price in case anyone is interested.

wdw09191.jpg

My Goofy loved this goofy sign.
wdw09188.jpg

It was made out of jelly beans!
wdw09189.jpg

An adorable caramel apple-o-lantern.
wdw09190.jpg

We spent a lot of time looking for the perfect gifts to take back to our guys back home. Along the way, we stopped to take a load off for a few minutes. During our rest, a CM who was sweeping in the area stopped to talk with Goofy. We ended up chatting with him for almost fifteen minutes. One of my favorite part's of any Disney vacation is having a chance to interact with some of the many wonderful CMs that Disney employs.
wdw09195.jpg

A quick picture on our way out.
wdw09196.jpg

When we got back to the BWI (after a L--O---N----G bus ride) we grabbed a drink in the club lounge and scurried off to our room to get ready for what was to be a terrific night! :thumbsup2

So sweet. Not just the treat either. Love Goof's hat. Sorcerer Mickey is my fav. Can't wait till tonite to see what happens.

Your time at DTD looks fun. I'd love to go when it's not so crowded. We went on Columbus Day & it was rough! Love the Goofy jelly bean sign-- my son's favorite is Goofy and he would love to see that!! We spent quite a while with him gazing at the Lego creations.

I'm a bus snob too, and it's one of the things that is holding me back from committing completely to DVC. I like the monorail resorts the best!

I love how your family seems to draw in the magic. You're always meeting CMs and taking time to appreciate the little things. That's such a gift that you've taught your boys!

I can not WAIT to go to DTD next month and spend a nice long time picking out my treats!! That Mickey Rice Krispie head looks pretty good....may have to splurge!!

Ooh - Goofy's candy company looks so yummy - I would spend all day in there! Can't wait to hear about your evening!!popcorn::

Great installment! Can't wait to see the T-Shirt that Goofy made. The candy shop looks just wonderful. I have never been in there, but may have to go check it out.

Please tell me, how much did it set you back creating your own Mickey ears? I'm thinking my Mitchell might find it fun to do that (b/c if you haven't heard, we MIGHT get to go to Disney in two weeks!). It's not set in stone, but if we go, it will be to celebrate Mitchell's five year birthday! A month early, but we can't possibly go during Christmas.

Great update - I love it how Goof is always interested in others, especially CM's - I know y'all have made many of THEIR days!

Jaime

:cool1: Jay, thanks so much for sharing your adventure with us! Your "Goof" seems like such a kind, sensitive young man and a joy to travel with :lovestruc. If I ever have boys, I hope they love their momma as much as your boys love you!

One quick question: can the giant Mickey Rice Krispie treats be personalized, or do they sell a standard one? It would be SO cool to be able to make your own and add M&Ms, Skor bits, etc...yummy!

MORE....MORE....MORE!!!!!!

WE NEED MORE JAY!!!!!
:yay:
:lmao: You are about as patient as I am! ;)

Ginny
:hug:Thanks, Ginny! I love him (sorcerer Mickey) too. It was so much fun to spend an afternoon shopping and really exploring DTD. Being there with everyone in the family is a whole lot of fun but it was really a treat (for me) to be able to explore all of the fun with only one of the guys in tow. It would have been more like work and less like play to have to order four make your own t-shirts, 4 make your own edible treats and 4 make your own hats. It was so nice to focus on giving Goofy just what he wanted and not have to worry about anything else at all!

We got really lucky with the crowds at DTD, they were very low while we were there. We have been there when it was packed before and it's really a lot harder to enjoy things when you have to fight your way through. If your son loves Goofy, they also had a make your own frozen drink (a slushy type drink) where you could choose Goofy parts to decorate your cup. We almost did the make your own drink thing but simply ran out of steam/hands to carry stuff. ;)

I'm glad I am not the only bus snob out there. HA HA HA. I just haven't learned how to appreciate that mode of transportation yet. The only place I didn't mind the Disney bus service was at AKL. I wish all deluxes had their own dedicated buses. I am sure that is either too expensive or not feasible logistically but maybe I would enjoy Disney buses more if they did it that way. :rolleyes1

I don't know how someone could spend any amount of time at WDW and not get 'sucked in' by the wonderful CMs. They are amazing. So many kind people who really want to make your time their special and are empowered by their employer to do so. It's great. I hoped the CM who spent so much time talking to us wouldn't get in trouble (since he was obviously supposed to be sweeping the area/emptying trash/etc). In true Disney fashion though, his boss happened to be walking through the area and stopped and joined in our chat for a few minutes as well. :thumbsup2 I love that Disney not only allows CMs to have special moments with their guests but encourages it. It's one of the top things that keeps me coming back to the same place year after year. The fact that (for the most part) they find awesome employees, train them well and then give them the oppurtunity to let themselves shine. Without the wonderful CMs, Disney wouldn't be anywhere near attractive to me.

How exciting for you! In no time at all, you will be there! :) If you do try a Mickey Krispie head, let me know how you like it! I want to try one too!

I think my Goof could have! And I wasn't minding the time spent there either! ;)

The candy shop does rock!

YIPEEEEEEEE for a 5th birthday (maybe) being celebrated at WDW!!! I have my fingers crossed that it will work out for you! :wizard: I believe it was less than $20 to make the hat. It really wasn't priced any higher than buying a set of Mickey ears would have been. The cost could have gone up significantly had he wanted more patches or other add ons. The cost of the ears varied by what you chose to decorate it with. HTH.

They truly are the ones who made our days so wonderful. It seems like a very small thing indeed to remember to say thank you to them. Disney CMs (almost all of them) rock!

Awwww, thank you!

I don't know more than the price and that it was available at DTD's candy shop about the large Mickey Krispy treat. I am going to be ordering one soon (through the IPO at the Boardwalk) and I will ask them if they have any more information available and if they do, I will share it here. :thumbsup2

Thanks, Jay! I think that is totally reasonable. If I go, and I hope I do, I will take Mitchell and check it out! It would be neat if we could put something about his birthday on there or something. But he would love that Sorcerer Mickey patch, too, since that is his fave. Just like Ginny! :goodvibes

Love his ears and that Gingerbread Mickey looks delicious. I also like the look of that giant cripy cake, wonder how long it would take to eat it :rotfl:

Day 2...One Delicious Dinner!

Once we were ready, we had only minutes to walk from our room door to our dinner table. On this night, we would be dining at the Flying Fish. It was a meal that I had high hopes for as I had read many positive reviews. Let's just start out by saying that I was NOT disappointed. ;)
wdw09197.jpg

wdw09198.jpg

wdw09199.jpg

When he came to take our orders, the server brought us a cone (their basket was cone shaped) of bread and some fresh butter. The bread was warm, crusty and very good.

Goofy's first course was actually offered as a dessert on the children's meal, but he was able to mix and match as he wanted. He chose fresh fruit skewers (very fresh and juicy) with yogurt dip.
wdw09200.jpg

I chose to go with yet another crab cake. :rotfl: Yes, I may just be addicted to those things! ;) And this one was no disappointment! It tasted as good as it looked. I always love edible flowers and they really dressed this dish up! The crab cake was crispy on the outside and moist and full of huge crab chunks on the inside. I did end up pushing off most of the sauce that was glopped down the side but it was tasty also (just too much of it for my tastes).
wdw09201.jpg

Our main courses were very tasty. I chose one of the signature dishes. Potato-wrapped red snapper that was served with cream leek fondue, beef glacé and red wine butter sauce. The fish was perfectly done.
wdw09203.jpg

Goofy chose the kid's snapper skewers and they were served with green beans. He thought eating fish on a stick was fun. I was happy to see my little sea food monster being able to enjoy some very fresh sea food.
wdw09204.jpg

And then came dessert (which we barely had any room for at all). Goofy chose to have the kid's white chocolate paint-able puzzle accompanied by a chocolate cupcake and topped with fresh vanilla bean ice cream, gummy worms, mini oreos (for the mouse ears) and sprinkles. Since the IPO had left a note in our reservation noting that he was celebrating a birthday, his plate also had an edible happy birthday sign on it.
wdw09206.jpg

wdw09205.jpg

I was so stuffed that I went very light on dessert. I chose the trio of gelatos. My server was wonderful and allowed me to mix and match the gelatos that were available in other desserts with the one that came standard in the gelato dessert itself. I ended up with pineapple, coconut and raspberry. It was very tasty! The fresh berries and vanilla sugar biscuits also added a lot to the dish. I wish I could have eaten every bite but contented myself with a few very delicious bites of all of the flavors which ended up working so well together!
wdw09207.jpg

After dinner, we made our way outside (we may have rolled, I felt like I needed to for sure). We happily saw one of the boardwalk performers starting in on a show as we walked out of the Flying Fish so we paused for a minute to watch.
wdw09208.jpg

The performer 'spoke' in short whistle sounds and balanced things on his head. Knives, brooms and finally a basketball hoop that he kept extending.
wdw09210.jpg

Somehow he was able to get small basketballs into that tiny hoop while balancing the hoop on a pole on his forehead. I was wondering, how one might develop that skill! ;)
wdw09211.jpg

One last look back at one of our new favorite places to eat.
