Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

I am really excited about the shirts! I have no idea why but other than the medals I get most excited about the shirts! I am never going to take that goofy one off! I am not going to run in it because anything new rubs
all of my skin off but during the day that's what I might wear!

A week today and I will be driving down the I4 to go to the expo and then the WISH meet! And then birthday fireworks for a member of my family!

It's going to be a busy weekend for us, not only do we have the races and a new year to celebrate but a family birthday on the Friday and on the Sunday it is my 2 yr anniversary of living in the US and living with my now family! So much fun to be had!

I travel back to FL tonight, then I am going to swim in the morning, so good to be going home!

I think I might take a trash bag
to sit on and one to wear, it won't keep all the cold off but it will be easier
for me to carry around.

Have a wonderful new year everyone, and see you in 7 days :)

I am a little bummed about my shirts. At the Princess we got ladies shirts and I traded my L for an XL and I like the way it fits. So, when I signed up for Goofy I also put XL thinking that they would have ladies shirts for the ladies (like our local marathon). On the final instructions it said there would not be any shirt trading. I am pretty sure I won't get much use out of 3 XL men's tech shirts.

I am trying to work up the motivation to do a strength workout. Decided to skip the TM today after 2 days in a row with 4 mile workouts. I am having an odd pain in my kneecaps so I figure they deserve some rest. I think 2 on 1 off will be my strategy between now and the 1/2.

I am hoping to get back on track with my nutrition today--but there is a lot of yummy food and beer leftover from our NYE party. Not to mention the football. Food and football just seem to go together. Here in Cincinnati we are jazzed about OSU in the Rose Bowl today and Univ. of Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl tonight.

I am starting to worry that I may not get everything into my carry on. And, I was hoping not to check a bag. I guess I can work on my packing during the games and hopefully keep my mind off the food and drink.

Happy New Year, Goofy team!!

Congratulations on making it this far..now, if taper madness, suspicious aches and pains, and our spouses/so/friends don't do us harm..we'll be ready to line up at the start line NEXT SATURDAY!!! :woohoo::scared1::woohoo:

FYI: Unless it is a Women's themed race(ie Minnie 15K or Princess Half), the shirts are unisex. They actually run quit large too.

For Women's races, they only do women's sized shirts.

Happy New Year Goofy's!

I'd love for the shirts to be Red for Mickey, Orange for Goofy and I'm OK with White or Blue for Donald. I agree with Charles in the Grey Goofy last year looked an awful lot like the Mickey the previous year.

Christine - I know this doesn't really help, but you could always sell your shirts and check on e-bay or possibly check the boards here and maybe someone got a Large that may need an XL. Just a thought.

Got in my 8 miler today. Felt good and I'm so excited.

I really need to think about starting to pack.

Thanks for the advice/info on the shirts. I think I will try to play dumb and see if I can get mine exchanged for Mediums. I'll let them know that I got the wrong shirts...that I got mens instead of ladies....

Taper madness is in full swing. I "practice" packed tonight. Looks like all my stuff will fit in my carry on. Still gotta buy my throw away stuff, but if I get thin sweatshirts instead of thick ones I should be fine. Goodwill should be able to fix me up for about $2-3 per sweatshirt. Checked Accuweather and it looks like I'll be wearing tights instead of shorts. I am thinking a throw away sweatshirt and mylar blanket should work pre-race.

Anyone else considering wearing a vest?

You figure they will have some extra in the marathon shirts for sure as the race just filled so how did they print the right size for them?

I might use a vest but plan to use short sleeve shirt with arm warmers ( http://longscycle.com/product/zig-zag-cycling-arm-warmers ) They work great as it warms up, just roll them down and use them as sweat bands! Always easy to add to fanny pack.

I emailed them about changing shirts because I have the wrong size too (I thought I was getting a t-shirt and not a tech shirt and asked for XL instead of L), and they told me to stop by the Expo on Saturday afternoon to see if they have any extras available to exchange with me. You might want to try the same thing.

I check weather.com and it looks like 45-64 with 60% chance of rain on Sat. For the half, I'm probably going to go with s/s shirt, shorts, and maybe a vest (or l/s shirt), but for the full it shows 47-66 degress and sunny. Since it'll probably start around in the high 40s and five hours later be in the 60s, I'm thinking s/s shirt or singlet and shorts. For the early morning cold, I'll probably go with my trusty large gabage bag poncho.

About those arm warmers, I thought about buying them, but not sure how much they help.

Here's my list of running stuff to pack:

- Waivers, race info, program
- 2 hats, 2 s/s shirts, 2 shorts, 2 pr. sox, vest, sunglasses, shoes, fanny pack (my wife said to take 2 of each just in case I tear something)
- band aids for nipples/blisters, energy gels, tylonol, glide, sunscreen, camera(?)
- towel to sit on, lg garbage bag for poncho

I know I can buy some of the stuff at the expo, but I don't want to find out they don't have the brand I use, etc.

Am I missing something or anything else I should bring?

What do you think about a sweatshirt or something for the morning pre-race. We are out there for a godd two hours if not longer. Any wind along with the 40's and you will wish you hade a layer or two.

There are two styles of arm warmers. Cyclist style like Robert linked and old tube socks. Tube socks have the advantage of being cheap and disposable. Arm warmers have the advantage of having a little neoprene in the material so they break the wind and will keep you wrmer. The will also stay up well. The advatnage of warmers over long sleeves is that you can roll them down. You are stuck with sleeves.

Good morning!!

I am considering a local 5K walk this morning. A local guy lost over 350 pounds and is having an obesity walk at one of the places I do my long training. The drawback is the weather. Only 20-22 degrees at the start. I think that is just too cold for me to risk anything. I do, however, plan to be on the same trail tomorrow for my 6 miles and the temps will likely be similar...

Okay, I think I am going to go. See you folks later!! :rotfl: (Amazing how this thread inspires me even before there is time for any responses! :thumbsup2)

Coach, I'll have to go with your advise on the sweatshirt since I've never run in Florida this time of year. Hopefully I can find a Goodwill near by to pick some up for cheap. Last time I ran in Florida was in St. Petersburg in July. It was so hot and humid, I was drenched in sweat just from the pre-run streches.

Tube socks...I never even thought about that. I heat up pretty quickly once I start running so the thought of buying arm warmers to use them for the first mile of the race was giving me second thoughts. But tube socks is a great idea (beside, my wife complains about all my socks with holes in them so I got plenty of socks to pick from).

On the training front, I'm steeling myself to this morning's run. Only 4 miles, but it's 26 degrees with 20 kt. wind gusts. At least most of the snow and ice are gone. It's time like this that I wish I could learn to love the TM.

This time next week.......!!!!!!!

Christine, hope your 5k went well!

Bravo to all of you out there in the below freezing cold!! I'm heading for the TM! :upsidedow

I had the worst run ever this morning. It was freezing - well to me it was freezing - I think it was around 44 so I figured it was a good time to test out one last time what I was wearing for the races next weekend. I wore my long tight running pants and the charity tech shirt along with the throw away jacket I bought last year at the expo and a Bondi band around my head so my ears wouldn't get cold. I did 18 miles with the jacket tied around my waist so I will definately not be throwing it away - it is very light.

I do not know what the problem this morning but my legs did not want to work. I have not felt soreness in my outer shins in a long time - that was last years issue - I had only just over 6 miles planned but I turned around early - not too early maybe I got 5 miles in.My legs started feeling warmed up just as I was getting close to finishing. I don't know if its just the cold but I am getting worried that I won;t be able to do 13.1 let alone 39.3 next weekend. I sure hope its not as cold as predicted next weekend otherwise its going to a LONG weekend!!! YIKES

I'm not good with advice I'll leave that to Charles, but Breathe! You are going to make it!
