Goofy is Now 95% Full! Last Call!

Hi guys...no stressing over Goofy! It's completely possible to have a GREAT time running both races :). My training plan was lighter on miles and heavy on cross training and core work (I've battled injury the past few years and can't handle the heavy mileage). I was fortunate to be able to make up for less miles by adding the XT and pilates/yoga. Just don't be afraid of the training, just find something that works for you and the type of runner/walker that you are :). I finished Goofy feeling great...went out dancing until all hours the night after....and never regretted taking on the challenge. Trust with others like Cecilia and Robert say...don't be afraid of the challenge...and definitely enjoy the ride!

Just thought I'd throw in there that I did the exact same plan as Amy, only I don't teach Pilates...but I did do them 3-4 times per week to strengthen the core.

I felt great for the whole thing with the exception of my legs cramping but that was more of a humidity/salt/electrolyte issue than it was a training one. Even with the cramping, I was also out until 1am having a blast (no dancing unless you count that stint on the stage at Jellyrolls ;) )...and felt pretty great the next day too :goodvibes:

I plan on following the same routine for Goofy this year and have full confidence in it :)

I wish you the best of luck...my biggest advice would be to train hard, but stay injury free!!

Though I'm not doing the Goofy in 09, I would like a copy of your spreadsheet
too!

I will be doing the full in 09 and Goofy in 10!!!

Thanks so much

Erica:)

I don't mind sharing. Basically mine is just an adjusted Higdon plan I think. I will have to look at his plans again and compare.

What I did was run Tuesday, Wednesday(twice),Thursday and Saturday.
So my week looked something like this:
cross train-rest- 6 - 10/5 - 6 -rest-long run

I was going to do back to back runs .

Hey Cruella!

I would also be interested in looking at your training plan:yay: Very cool that you offered to share it!!

When you say run "back to back runs" .... what do you mean? I always interpret that as running on consecutive days? Also, did you run in the AM on Tuesday and Thursdays?? Just how tired were your legs on Thursdays when you went out to run? To be honest, the thought of two-a-days is not very appealing and then to get up and run again the next day? ugh. I do not know if I can stay motivated w/ that plan. (I am an x-swimmer and two-a-day practices were part of my life for too many years! SO many showers!!!!)

Because of shin splints I have not been able to train on consecutive days. I have *just* started running on consecutive days again....first time in about 4 years and so far, so good. Building up slowly, but I hope to be able to train for Goofy differently this time around. FOr the '07 Goofy I also modified Hal Higdons plan and it worked well, had a blast, no PR's! For me, that is the best way to approach the Goofy :)

yes, I mean consecutive days of high miles.

and yes, I run in the morning on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Then I added in a short run on Wednesday night.

Actually, my legs felt more tired on Wednesday nights than they did on Thursday morning. I think the short and usually slow runs on Wednesday nights actually helped them feel better.

Shin splits are miserable! You have an entire year to train so take the time to build up slow slow slow. I didn't actually start training for Goofy until August. I never ran over 6.1 miles at a time in May, June & July. I ran 4 to 6 times a week but some days it was only 2 or 3 miles.

Thank you for your help Robert! And thank you for saying its a good plan. It worked for me.

Cecilia

I mailed mine in back at 65% full. I have never mailed an app before but wanted to use my new DVC discount. I have not had any confirmation-should I be concerned. Don't want to miss it.

I AM IN! :rolleyes1

Some mutually crazy person (Charlie - Honeibee's DH) called me and put the screws to me saying he was ONLY talking me into running the Half Marathon since I was already signed up to run in the 5K and Marathon! He pressed about the 85% full figure, said how much fun it would be, said how cool it would be to do the "Pluto", and that I could finish and then cheer for Jenn (DD) and Cam, etc.

I vowed that this years Goofy was my last for the near future. Little did I know that the near future will end at the end of the year. :confused3

I have some logistical issues - I am currently signed up for the Marathon and 5K but want to be 5K and Goofy. But my Goofy form is in the mail today! I'll leave it up to fate as to if it gets to WDW before Goofy is at capacity.

I have multiple messages into WDW Sports about the issues. I'll let everyone know what I hear.

:grouphug:

What an inspiration you all are! I just completed the Full Marathon at WDW, which was my 2nd marathon. During that time, I met some great people from this site so I was inspired to join.

Colleen (Theta)...if you're out there...it's Angela from the Port Orleans Riverside boat & Pleasure Island. :)

Training alone isn't exactly fun so I'll be drawing energy from you guys and gals. Anyway, here's to a great year of running and a potential Goofy racer (still debating)!

:welcome: If you want to do the goofy I would sign up real soon. I know the feeling of training alone. Sometimes I wish I had someone there with me to run with, but it's also nice to clear your mind and just enjoy some me time you know? :thumbsup2

Hi Angela,

It is so great you found us!:thumbsup2

Oh, so you are contemplating Goofy?? Good for you! There are a LOT of WISHers going Goofy this year again. Some for the fourth time!:scared1:

I have been really lazy since the marathon. I need to get my act together because when I don't exercise my nutrition suffers too.

Anyway, great to see you here!
