Goofy Challenge

I don't think it will give specifics about back-to-back races. But, if you use it to build up to your first marathon in 15 - 18 months then use what you've learned on your own to prepare for Disney, you'll be in pretty good shape.

I am lookin' for the hardware!! I'll wait for 2010 Goofy.

I was never a runner but went from 0 (never run a step) - 26.2 in 4 months. The first time I ran with anyone else and the first race I ever ran was my first marathon. I have only done three but I know I won't have any trouble building up the 26.2. It's the back to back where I find myself completely ignorant!

There is a lot of advice here. It's fantastic!

Thanks for all your help. I will be back here often!!

Thanks a ton

I might get flamed for this but.....
I think the "Goofy Challenge" is WAY over the top.
I personally witnesses many extremely "shattered" people following the Goofy challenge last year. I was in MCO waiting for my flight and there were more than a few people sporting their medals but also sick to the point of non-stop shivering.

Be very careful if you choose to do this. Make sure you are very well prepared and consult with "professionals" beforehand

I have to agree. I did it last month and vowed I would never do consecutive days again. Future marathons? Sure. Future halves? Absolutely. But the heat and fatigue were way more than I anticipated. I didn't even want to wear my medals when I crossed the marathon finish. They were too heavy. :guilty:

The bad feelings didn't last too long. About 6 hours later I was fine and boarding my plane back to Baltimore. But, the memories of the last 10 miles and the post race recovery will probably make this just a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me.

Be careful and good luck.

Just to give me and idea of what I'm faced with...how much marathon experience do you have?
I need to know whether I'mm going to be a shiverer...like souris:scared1: , or feel wretched the last 10 miles:sick: ,...or go ride the rides:thumbsup2 !LOL!!

Oh...and I am no spring chicken...more like a fall chicken.

I did Goofy 24 months after I started a formal training routine. During the course of those 2 years, I completed 4 halves and 1 full. I did the full exactly 13 weeks before Goofy. So, yes, I was a novice when I "Goofied." I'm 43, no big injuries, and no extra weight. You'll do fine.:thumbsup2

That's what I was hoping to hear (funny about my selective hearing...I couldn't hear a word saratogasouris said, I might end up very sorry indeed)!!!

I have also seen the poor folks who are undertrained struggling along. Thankfully I have never joined them. I generally go shopping after the run. Just keep moving moving moving!

My evil plan is to run the half at a leisurely pace...and to run the full at a leisurely pace:lmao: .

I have heard that there is a time limit. If I run as anticipated, I will do the half in 2 and the full in 4.5. Are there really time limits? I think that's so unfair!! I can understand the usual..."the course will officially close 8hrs after the offical start time" ...but to put a time limit on the poor/crazy Goofy's? I heard ??? for the half and 5 hours for the full. Can someone wise me up on this? Five hours is cruel...so much can happen between the start of the half and the end of the full....they should give you 8 hours...to accomodate for that soleus tear at mile 20.....

Oh...nobody has answered my beer query yet...

More thanks!

Izma, it is 3 and a half hours for the half and 7 hours for the full. You sound quite speedy! I am sure you will do fine! I did the goofy and it was my first full marathon, I had only done one half before. I just started to run/walk less than a year ago.

Kelley, sorry you didn't have a good experience :(

Not so much speedy...not a total turtle though.

I really surprise myself. I always anticipate finishing slower:cool1: . I imagine I could get quite fast except that I let myself get completely out of shape between each effort. It's quite stooopid really! LOL!

We'll see if I can put my money where my mouth is...

Thanks again!
