I was wondering what characters were at each character breakfast. Also, if one was particularly better than the other for food/atmosphere? Trying to decide for DS 7yrs old. Thank you in advance!

Are you staying at either hotel? That could tip the scales one way or the other for convenience or ”we want to check this hotel out” sake.

We had Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale & Pluto at Storytellers in Dec, and Goofy, Minnie, Chip & Dale and Pluto at Goofy’s (same trip.) Food was great at both but if i did another again I’d choose Storytellers. It’s super convenient if you are going to DCA (perhaps on a sleep in day). ;)

EDIT: 3 boys ages 12-8-5, loved both.
EDIT again: checked pics and Pluto was at Goofy’s

We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel. We have stayed at the Grand California in the past but DS was small and kind of scared of characters at that point. Now he really wants to go to a character breakfast.

We did Goofy's this week and had the same characters as mentioned (Goofy, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Pluto). I don't know if this is how it is at the other character dining places these days but the characters just danced by briefly every 20 minutes or so, very little interaction with anyone at the tables since they really never stopped moving. The buffet was good but the characters did not add much -- if anything they were sort of awkward. Maybe I'm just missing pre-covid character dining though...

We are going to be doing the Plaza Inn character dining later this week -- will report back if it's significantly better/different than what we experienced at Goofy's.

If you’re staying at the DL hotel and have a non-park/rest day, I say do Goofy’s then, or on your arrival night for something exciting to kick things off. If its a go-go-go trip then I would lean toward doing Storytellers for brunch on a day you will be at DCA. It would be a great way to break up the day if park hopping, or otherwise not wasting time going back and forth.

Storyteller's has better food.

Goofy's has a character dinner option, which is the only reason I would do Goofy's over Storytellers. Their dinner is decent.

Until they improve the character interactions (hopefully soon), you should go with what food is better. We went to Storyteller's a couple months ago, and as mentioned above, the character interaction was minimal.

On the 18th, Plaza Inn Minnie Breakfast seemed back in full swing (autographs, hugs, side by side photos). Is there reason to believe that Storytellers is different?

See the post from someone else above that indicated that they were there this week, and had limited character interactions.

My understanding is that April 18th is the START of character interactions returning to normal, and not all places will switch immediately.

So based off both statements, I am assuming that full interaction has not returned to some of the character meals, but they should hopefully in the near future.

I was coming to ask this exact question! From all the replies it sounds like Storytellers is better for breakfast. We'll save Goofy's for a dinner.

Interesting. What was the date of your Goofy's character meal?

I agree with @blabbermouth. I never ate at Goofy's but when I was waiting for my table at Steakhouse 55 (still upset that is no longer there) Goofy's Kitchen seemed super hectic and crazy from what I could see from the lobby. Storyteller's is more lowkey and peaceful despite being a character meal. Food is pretty good too.

I remember Kenai and Koda from Brother Bear as well as Meeko from Pocahontas being characters you could meet but that was pre-Covid so I guess they changed it up to just Mickey, Chip, Dale and Pluto.

Just looked at the Storytellers description and it still says you can "wave at" Mickey and his friends; this lends support to the idea that only Plaza Inn made the switch.

My only theory right now is that, right now, the majority of the character meets that have returned to be full meets in the resort are taking place outside. Even the princesses are meeting outside Fairytale Hall, not inside. Of course, that could change at any time. Disney has not published any schedule as to what and when will get converted back to regular meets.
I think there may be a couple inside meets.

In any case, that does explain why the character meals are not yet converted (except for Minnies, which is at least partially outside).

My guess is that it won't take too long.

I went pre-Covid and Meeko was not at Storytellers, but it would be awesome if Meeko was there on my next trip (sometime in 2023). Pre-Covid I saw Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale and Pluto. In terms of food, Storytellers was great and I would highly reccomend it.

Kenai, Koda, Chip and Dale, and Meeko were the usual characters at the Storyteller's Cafe for a long time. They recently (but still before covid) changed it to what it is now.

April 25 - just this past Monday.

We had our Minnie's breakfast this morning and as others have mentioned, it was basically back to normal other than fewer characters than pre-covid (which was fine with me, I did find it kind of hectic when there were like 10 different ones constantly coming by back in the day). We saw Pluto, Pooh, Tigger, Chip, Dale, Daisy, and a mouse from Cinderella. They each came to each table and spent a couple minutes doing photos, hugs, autographs, etc. It was a completely different experience than Goofy's. I don't know if/when Goofy's will return to normal character interactions but right now, if you're wanting an actual character dining experience, Minnie's is the place to go.

I will say the breakfast buffet selection at Goofy's was about 5x as much stuff as Plaza Inn, so I'd consider going back at some point based on that.

We did Storyteller's for breakfast on Thursday 4/28. Saw Mickey, Minnie, Chip, and Dale. The characters paraded around the restaurant to upbeat music, and then separately went around to greet individual tables. Each one stopped by our table at some point during our meal to say hello, give high-fives, and take photos with us. All the food at the breakfast buffet was great too!
