Ignoring cost, can anyone comment on this grocery store? It seems to be located relatively close to the BCV. How is the selection/quality (produce, deli, etc.) Do they have a liquor store? (The most important question!;) ) Thanks!

I'm presuming you're talking about the one at Crossroads? It may have changed it's name recently, but I think the comments still hold true.

Quality and selection are, IMHO very good. It is more expensive than other supermarkets, but probably the best quality. It has beer and wine available, but not liquor. There is an Italian restaurant/deli next door and they sell liquor, but I don't know what mark up they have.

Gooding's is a very nice store and has an excellent selection. They have a nice bakery, lots of prepared foods and even a sushi bar. Cost is the only thing in the "con" column as far as I'm concerned with Gooding's and sometimes that isn't even worth quibbling over. They now have competition from the Winn-Dixie and Publix that are only minutes further away.

The liquor store near goodings is very expensive (just like goodings is); the ABC Liquor store next to the winn-dixie is much more reasonably priced.

Goodings does have a very large selection of beer though.

Our first few trips we went to goodings. The purchased about $100 worth of groceries that probably would have been around $70 under normal circumstances. So, this last trip we went to Winn Dixie and the prices there were much more in line with what you probably would pay in your home town. Not sure but I would say it is less than 5 min away North? of Goodings. Worth the drive.

I know you said ignoring cost....but shopping at goodings is the same thing as taking ot $30 and burning it to keep warm....hey for $30, I'll go shopping for you at Publix:jester: :jester:

Gooding's has a pretty good variety, a large food to go section, a nice bakery and unless you're planning on buying alot it's a really good choice. We used the new Winn Dixie in August and while it's not much further down the road and the prices are better, traffic on that road can be CRAZY. It took us 40 min to get back to WDW once!! Gooding's is soooo close and on many items they don't charge much more than back home (atleast for us).

We love getting those special things at Goodings...stuff you wouldn't buy at home because of the $$$$. If the Crossroads is on your right pass it buy and about a 1/2 mile up on the right is a shopping plaza. There is a liquor store on the side of the plaza, next to the Post Office. The prices were a little less than next to Goodings.

Gooding's is great for 'gourmet' selections. But I would definitely got to Publix for baked goods. Gooding's bakery items look fabulous but Publix bakery TASTES fabulous.
Beer and wine can be purchased in grocery stores. ABC sells liquor as well. I don't think the Walgreens near Disney have a package store or I would suggest them also.

Well, I was just going to mention this. There is a liquor store right next to Walgreens and far less expensive than the ABC store near Winn Dixie. In fact, the more you head south on 535 the "cheaper" stuff becomes.

Goodings is outrageous in their prices. I would rather take an extra hour and go to either WalMart or Winn Dixie, traffic or not, I refuse to pay for wall to wall carpeting in a grocery store or be held hostage for convienance.

I had to laugh when I read this thread. The original poster opened with the phrase, "Ignoring cost..." and nearly every response is about cost. MJS wants to know about selection and quality at Goodings and if there is a liquor store nearby, NOT the cheapest alternative! PAmOKW hit the nail on the head with "Cost is the only thing in the "con" column as far as I'm concerned with Gooding's and sometimes that isn't even worth quibbling over. "

MJS, Goodings is a great store. Go there, shop and enjoy!

Goodings is fine if you just want to pick up a few things and don't sweat the prices. However Winn-Dixie is less than a mile north, and if convenience is important, a number of the deluxe resorts (and maybe others) have a shop with a decent selection of drinks, snacks, and pantry items at expensive but not totally outrageous (i.e. less than minibar) prices. Atlantic Wear at the Beach Club is an example.

For me the niche occupied by Goodings is very narrow. If you're at a DD hotel without a car it's within walking distance. Otherwise for price go to other grocery stores, for convenience use a resort store. I drove to Goodings once from a DD hotel for some soda, because as a matter of principle I refused to pay $2.50 for a can of soda. But now that I know where Winn-Dixie is, I doubt that I'll go back.

We usually go to Gooding's just because it's really close, we're very familiar with getting to and from Gooding's and we convince ourselves we only need a few things so why drive further down the road just to save a few cents. However, it's always so crowded in there, I get frustrated when they are out of what I was needing and I think they have a limited selection on basic items. I usually leave wishing we had gone somewhere else. So, we are going to try and get out of our Gooding's habit and go down the road to Winn Dixie. I didn't know there was a Winn Dixie close by! We went to Publix and Wal Mart once and they just seem so far away, the Wal Mart was so huge, we were in there forever, and unless we take our written directions with us, which we usually forget, we'll get lost.
