Goodbye to Jed Clampett

Buddy Ebsen has passed away at 95 from pneumonia. He is probably best know for playing the head of the Beverly Hillbillies family and for his years as Barnaby Jones.

Seemed like he would go on forever.

Goodness! I liked him in Breakfast At Tiffany's. I think he was the original Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz, too. He was replaced because of an allergic reaction to the make-up, which contained real silver.

No, it was Buddy Ebson.

I will miss him too. What a rash of celebrity deaths lately! In think this makes number 6 in a few short weeks!

I hadn't heard the Tin Man story before so I looked on-line. It was Buddy Ebsen and he nearly died from the reaction to the make-up. Here's a quote from one of several articles that came up on Google.

Like many movie classics, The Wizard of Oz underwent its share of pain. ...Perhaps the greatest calamities for the actors were those of Margaret Hamilton and Buddy Ebsen. The near-fatal illness and replacement of Ebsen, who was the original Tin Man, was spawned by the use of toxic metal make-up. Hamilton’s skin was charred while doing the scene in which the Wicked Witch threatens Dorothy and disappears in an explosion of fire and colored smoke.

He certainly had a full and rich career. We all should be so fortunate. I choose to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing.

There is a story on his long and wonderful career hre and it tells of the Tin Man/aluminum paint allergy and his role as Fess Parker's sidekick in Davy Crockett! I watched the show as a kid but didn't remember that.
