Goodbye Mickey, Hello Freddy a Carnival Cruise Report-Update 4/1 Final Thoughts Pg10

Well hello there! How did I miss that you had started your TR? You know I'll be watching this one closely, having sailed with you on the Magic before becoming a Carnival loyalist. I'm having withdrawls reading this TR... I want to get back on the Freedom RIGHT NOW! :sad1:

Can't wait for more!

G,T,L
(Gym, Tan, Lunch!)

Well 630 am wake up call got hung up on and I passed back out. Which by the way isn’t a cute mouse telling you lots to do.. No just some automated chick voice not really that thrilling. I will give a point to Disney but either way wake up calls are no bueno lol. I had the coffee and juice being delivered between 7-730am and at 730 on the dot I heard a knock at the door. I jumped out of bed, and got it. Took my coffee and Danish out to the balcony and enjoyed reading my book (Nickolas Sparks, The Guardian) listening to the quiet ocean and 4 cups of Kahlua infused coffee with French vanilla creamer that I bought at Publix .

Its not a vacation until you start your day with a coffee and Kahlua. (Thought of you every morning El!)
IMG_1731.jpg

This looks so good right now but I"m thinking my boss might frown on it a bit.....

So once I was fully awake from my coffee intake I decided I better hit the gym. Normally I go walk around the ship and just take pics, but I had been working out hard prior to us vacationing to lose 30lbs (yea me! Still lots to go but it’s a start) So I packed my workout gear and wanted to stay on top of my workouts. I changed and off I walked to the gym/spa on deck 12 (we were on 6) you would think that would be workout enough.

You are waaaaay too dedicated! You are on vacation, GAIN some weight!!!!

8treadmills, a couple elliptical, some weight machines, a whirlpool and then some cycles but you have to sign up for the class to use those. I hoped on the tread and set off to do my 3miles. The gym is at the front of the ship so you feel ever move… and the tv screens are like 5inches from your faces so as your watching the water then the tv your moving side to side.. Its horrible lol Me and the dude next to me kept laughing and grabbing on to the rails. Best part is you don’t have to put and incline cuz when the ship goes up on a wave its like and incline then when it goes down its like your running down hill LOL. If you ever want to see how it feels, just get super drunk, put on a blindfold and go running around the block.

Have you been hanging out in my neighborhood watching me run???? Especially after my kahlua and coffee in the morning???? :lmao:

We saw something in the water at the front of the ship come to find out it was whales but we were never close enough to get a good pic, just splashed in the water.

Guess a whale doesn’t “splash” though huh?
IMG_1749.jpg

Seriously? WHALES in the Caribbean???

Oh ya they gave P this bag and some headphones that say Circle C (too bad we didnt have an ipod to go with them LOL)
IMG_1746.jpg

Hey, all they get on DCL is a certificate at the end of the week......

2801517745_0a510ac0e2.jpg

Ship on a stick! :rotfl2:

He’s no Capt Jack that for sure.
IMG_1757.jpg

You got that right!!! Cause Capt Jack is REAL!!! REAL hot!!!!

After that went up to get J from Camp Carnival and who do we happen to see… FREDDY. I begged P to take a pic and he said NO. I was upset as he promised on this cruise he wouldn’t be like the last where he never wanted to take pics. So I said fine whatever.. And just as I was about to click it… guess who popped in.
IMG_1758.jpg

OK, so if you wrap his, what are those things, horns? Anyway, wrap them around like Princess Leia buns (no not THOSE buns! Geesh!) and you've got a red/white/blue Mickey!!!!!!

We headed back to the room and got our swim trunks on I hope you wore a top with YOUR trunks..... ;) and headed out to catch the hairy man contest. They should have called it the hairless man contest, as most the guys had NONE and they even had a young kid in there it was funny as heck though, kids were loving it

As we walked around a bit to find a lounge chair, we spotted Kid Rock lol
IMG_1760.jpg

Looks like Kid has been cruising for awhile and NOT going to the gym, eh?

At 3pm they were starting a weeklong Whodunit game. Like mystery theater. Then each day you would find clues in the Fun Times and at certain shows etc they would throw them out. I really wanted to do it.. And what happens I slept through it.. AND my cruise meet. I had been chatting on Cruise Critic with a handful of people (nothing like the DIS, hence why Im doing my report here LOL) and we decided at 2pm to meet up in one of the lounges and one gal who had cruised a million times had a direct email (stalker.. Or maybe it was like a direct line to Batman?) to our Cruise Director Ryan (Gopher oh wait that was Julie on Love boat right Kara? Lol)

Would that be Gopher McCoy?

E later moved to the rocking chairs on the bottom deck to cheer on his Longhorns (sorry I should crop that guy from behind E but had to show the reverse wedgie LOL)
IMG_1774.jpg

OMG!!!! The reverse wedgie!!!! EWWWWW!!!! :scared:

OMG golf at sea sounds so awesome!!!!! Yup, Freddy deserves those point, even without the Princess Leia buns (again, NOT THOSE BUNS!!!!). So far sounds like a great cruise!!!!! :thumbsup2

We'll be playing golf next May 6th on the Dream- if you would join us, we would have the perfect foursome, we could play for tequila, LOL!! I'll be playing on Explorer with the kids, though, in August- I'm really looking forward to that. The pic with Freddy is a little Creepy, no offense- not the boys, just Freddy- :confused3 I LOVE that you saw the whales, though- I can never figure out why we don't see them on a cruise- with all that deep ocean around! I have seen them on a small boat in the Caribbean while we were out with Thomas (Helloooooo Thomas!)
but never on a great big ship.

Their Pirate is soooo not Capt Jack!! OMG- you really all do look like you were laughing at him!!

Great update- I'm glad you're having so much fun!

Hey I have one of those highly coveted, hard to get, solid gold plated ship on a sticks :rotfl: Got it for Name that Tune. I also was on the winning team for Family Feud, but they only had one trophy for the team so I took a gold plated medal instead so I could have one of each. Cheesy but very fun.

I'm enjoying the review. I'm platinum on Carnival but haven't sailed Disney so reading your review is very interesting. popcorn::

I didn't know at the time but the Name that Tune Game is the same all over the fleet and it's TV Theme Shows (50's thru 70's) so before you go again listen to those compulation albums of tv theme shows because that's what they used. I only knew them because I was a huge classic tv fan. I didn't think I'd care and then I got one and I can't seem to part with it (or my medal). It's on my dresser and I plan to keep it forever at this point. My nephews couldn't even talk me out of it. Oh and they were giving them out at the Trivia contests as well.

OHH "royalty" So what does platinum mean. Perks? how many cruises does it take to get that title? Im totally jealous!

 Not as many perks as you'd think! It's 10 Carnival cruises to reach platinum. The best perk is VIP boarding by far, at least for us. It's great to be able to by pass the line and get right on the ship. After that free laundry and guaranteed dining times are the things we use/appreciate the most.

I've always wanted to try DCL but can't get over the sticker shock.

Checking In! I just saw this link peeking out of your siggie and followed it! I'm excited to read all about your cruise! I'll be starting my TR tomorrow! Still lovin' DCL and didn't get to "encourage" anyone!:lmao:

:cool1::cool1::cool1: I'm in; I think your TRs are freakin' hilarious! The only lines I've been on are RCI and Norwegian, so it's nice to hear a report about a different one.

One question: my travel buddy and I are in our late 20s, no kids. Would you say the nightlife for adults was pretty good on the ship? We like meeting other people, but neither of us are "partyers", so to speak.

I enjoyed your other TR's, so when I came across your new link, I had to come here & join in!! We're planning our 2nd Disney cruise next month for DD's 16th birthday, so I am reading as many TR's as I can, even if it's a Carnival TR!! We've been on 2 Carnival cruises. Even though we loved DCL and it IS our favorite...., I have to give Carnival the points for the food. We LOVED Carnival's food, but Disney's was just OK. Hoping for some improvements in the food department for the Disney Dream!!

Also wanted to let you know how adorable your family is!!! So cute!
Can't wait to read more!

I like the idea of VIP boarding... and free laundry heck yes.. no staking out a dryer. Then again I could always just bring 12 pairs of underwear for an 8 day cruise like my husband LOL:lmao:

Missed you.. kept thinking bout ya and wonder..how was it.. details details. cant wait to read YOUR trippy. Aww no encouraging.. guess people arent drinking as much on an Alaskan cruise then caribbean... I know I would be, would need the libations to keep warm :rotfl:

:cool1::cool1::cool1: I'm in; I think your TRs are freakin' hilarious! The only lines I've been on are RCI and Norwegian, so it's nice to hear a report about a different one.
Aww thanks. Which RCI and Norwegian shipshave you been on? We are always looking to read up on other ships and try them out.

One question: my travel buddy and I are in our late 20s, no kids. Would you say the nightlife for adults was pretty good on the ship? We like meeting other people, but neither of us are "partyers", so to speak.
On the Freedom, there are a ton of different bars. We only hit up the one around the pool where they have a steel band playing most days, the lobby where they play the pianno and have a gal singing, some mellow dancing nothing wild. The night club is like any other type of dance club. They have a comedy club, and then the theater for the shows. Along with a casino. I didnt find anything wild and crazy about it or full of partyers. Yet again most nights we were in bed by 1-130. Im sure if you stay out later it may get a bit wilder maybe? So far out of all of our cruise's E's and my 3day cruise to Ensenada was the wildest for us.. But we had no kids so we partied all night and slept all day LOL

Well thank you!!! how fun a "Dream" come true for another cruise LOL. I found the food on this cruise hit or miss. Same for desserts which Im a conisour of LOL

Also wanted to let you know how adorable your family is!!! So cute!
Can't wait to read more!
aww well thanks, Im guessing/hoping your doing a trip report for your cruise.. cant wait to see how much your daughter has grown (hope that doesnt sound petafileish lol) and how the new ship is! :yay:

I plan to start a PTR this week, then continue with TR when we get back. I have been debating on a PTR because I have waited till the last minute to get some things done, and really haven't had any definate plans. You know, the hard decisions like, WDW before or after cruise, to drive or not to drive, where will we stay before the cruise, etc.......

I can't wait to see the new ship and to celebrate my DD's 16th this time!!!
Yeah, she's getting grown, and just went to prom last weekend! Growing up TOOOOOO fast!

Our Futures So Bright. We Gotta Wear Shades

So after our round of golf we had worked up a hankering for some Ice Cream… I wanna Get Chocolate Wasted! So J got some frozen yogurt and P ice cream. I got a lil of both to try. Freddy you score again, 2 different types of frozen concoctions with 3 different types each. Vanilla, Chocolate, & Strawberry. Only kind I found at Disney was vanilla (with cookie dough on Castaway)

We made our way back to the room to meet up with E. I walk out of the shower to hear J ordering room service a couple samichs to share the tuna, blt, and the steak and brie (there was very lil steak) but all were good come with your choice of chips, pretzel or potato salad.
IMG_1785.jpg

(ok 2 things, P normally uses a napkin I just caught him off guard. and he wears a belt we do not allow sagging of the pants to let the boxers show. Dont want you all to think I am rasing messy slobby lil gangsters LOL)

Everyone else took their turns to get ready. Mickey heres where you score another point. Split bathrooms… or as I like to call them Her’s and THERES’s..being that I’m the only HER. I went looking thru my pics and cant believe I didn’t take one pic of the bathroom? So here are some I found. They keep the dispensers filled with shampoo and body gel. I actually liked the gel and I used the shampoo once just to try it. Eh, it was ok.
Cabin%208264%20shower.JPG

Plenty of storage. I didn’t even need our 2nd over the door storage I brought like on Disney.
Cabin%208264%20shower.JPG

And they gave free samples of a ton of stuff.. Again why I didn’t take a pic no clue? Our freebies includied some razors, breath strips, crest white strips, pepto sample, and toothpaste, mouthwash, & lotion. (E gets mad at me cuz I never let him use the vacation samples. I take them home so I can use them for another vacation LOL Then I get to look back and remember where we got them from and remember the past vacation. He thinks its dumb.. but its just part of the OCVP Disease LOL)
IMG_0391.jpg

We watched some tv and relaxed, before getting ready for formal night. I will say no trashcans were hurt in this process.. Unlike on our dinsey cruise (Read More About It Here!)

I think this was in large part due to we didn’t do any tasting on this cruise. Someone give Mickey another point. Carny did have a martini tasting on the 1st day (embark) till 5pm you just hit up the bar and ask for the martini flight. But no way we could go since we had kids and the clubs weren’t open. Sure we could have locked them in our room or let them go crazy in the arcade, but I wasn’t comfortable with that.. On the 1st day at least. You would think with all the bars they have on the Freedom they would have different tastings scheduled. But no tastings , but for $150 they have a behind the scenes tour.. Umm no thanks.

We wanted to hit up the family comedy show before dinner so off we went (no stiletto 5k as we had plenty of time to get there.
Amazing what spanx can do for a gal.
IMG_1812.jpg

The club was packed with families with kids of all ages.
IMG_2761.jpg

When we think of family comedy I figure booger and fart jokes.. Along with things my kids can relate to. Well apparently our interpretation of family comedy and Carnivals interpretation are SOO Different. This was really more for kids age 16 up. Most of the jokes were way over my kids and most of the other kids heads. Within the 1st 3mins E and I didn’t like the way it was going, and looked around an noticed lots of other parents with shocked faces also. The kids then started asking to leave as it was boring (which means thank god they didn’t understand some of the jokes)

So we decided to leave , BUT being that we were in the 2nd row guess who got heckled? Dude said something along the lines of You should have left the kids in the club, they don’t usually enjoy this show or laugh. My comedy isn’t really for them., but for the parents and the kids to just be quiet. Well Im not one to just be quiet and ignore things so I snapped back… Well when Carnival labels something as a FAMILY production obviously many of us (as I point around the room) thought it would be ok for our “FAMILY”! (ya I so did the quote thing too) And for another thing if your mentioning that kids don’t enjoy or laugh in your show.. Maybe its time to change the routine.. Any “GOOD”” (just emphasized it no quotes this time LOL) comedian would to accommodate their audience. I got a couple claps and OHHHHhhss from the crowd along with that sparked most of the other families to head out also! Oh Freddy not sure who is rating your shows but you get 4 thumbs down on this one.

So we were able to coax the boys into taking some pics. Ok fine actually we yelled at the kids to take pics on 2 backgrounds just so that we could have some new nice pics. They have these set up adjacent to the casino and basically in the walkway. Bad use of a small area. Also backgrounds were SOOO cheesy. I was hoping for some plain black or white to get a nice pic. But they didn’t have those out tonight. (yet last night on casual night they did.. every night it was a surprise of backgrounds. So We let the boys pick one but they wanted to wear their glasses.. Crap I didn’t bring mine. Oh well of all the pics we took this is the best one we bought.. For $29 OUCH
scan0066.jpg

E & I took a nice one and look he’s sort of smiling
scan0064.jpg

After a round of pics we made our way to the Posh dinning room. Yep same as last night no rotational, they have another dinning room but that is for the anytime dinning. We had opted for the 830pm late seating (being that it translates to 530pm Cali time)

A couple tables were all adults and older couples and they did the total grandma type thing when they saw the boys.. Aww how cute and handsome they are..
IMG_1803.jpg

Then they saw E in “sneakers” and laughed, a few guys yelled over.. That looks awesome, smart guy… NO smart WIFE! Since the boys wanted to wear chucks with their formal gear, I got E a pair also. He took his nice shoes as he didn’t want to wear the tennis shoes but with enough egging on from the boys ….
IMG_1811.jpg

Dinner went much faster since we talked to Percy our mater d' and asked him to speed it up at least for the kids. They ordered off the kids menu this time and were almost done before we even had out appetizers, hamburgers and fries don’t take long.
IMG_1798.jpg

P tried something of mine…of which I cant remember… but looks like he thought it wasn’t half bad
IMG_1800.jpg

When they were done they wanted to hurry back to their clubs. Off they then went back to the room to change out of the monkey suits with strict instructions on how to hang up their suits and stay together. Then once done to come back up to the dinning room.

Before they ran off they cheesed it up with our served Hanna (Hannah) which by the way she was awesome. We loved her she was quiet but so sweet.
IMG_1802.jpg

So we started on our food, I had shirmp cocktail and stuffed mushrooms for an appy, then the surf and turf. Smallest lobster around.. Thought they made a mistake at 1st and gave me a prawn LOL
IMG_1805.jpg

E had caesar salad and a steak. (as predictable as the boys)
IMG_1804.jpg

The boys came back from changing and E took J to his club and P went off to his. I ordered dessert for him.. Ok for me.. He isn’t normally a sweet eater (besides me LMAO) so I just order a dessert for him so I don’t look like the piggy eating 2.

Apple strudel w/carmel sauce and warm chocolate lava cake as back up since we knew we liked that. The apple thing was not my interpretation of strudel as it was more a cream flavoring? As you can tell it was sampled then pushed away for the chocolate!
IMG_1809.jpg

Before dessert came out the wait staff put on a show, and sang that’s Amore. I think if your on the 1st level of the dinning room you get a better view all I saw was tushies, not that its a bad thing...lol. Until I got serenaded.. Must have been cuz E was gone and I looked so lonely with 2 desserts LOL
That‘s Amore Video

After dinner was done we wanted to change, so we set off for our room but made a pitstop at the Decades disco club, where P's club was having a dance party. Well actually the 9-17yr old were in there.. hmm not sure I would like that if I had a 11yr old girl, dancing with a 15yr old boy LOL. But I went to peek in to see my 12yr old wallflower chatting it up with his friends. He spotted me and gave me the look of death too.. lol E even said dont do it, he will kill ya.. and if looks could kill, well.. Bin Laden wouldnt be the only person burried at sea lol.

The other Circle C activiets (for 12-14 yr olds) were 2Truths 1Lie game, and something called Lets Get Ready to Rumble. I dont remember what P told me about it. I want to say video game tournament.

Once back at the room we changed and had a drink, I opened my wine and pretty much finished it off. (should have got 2 bottles darn me what was I thinking?)
IMG_1818.jpg

E had a rum and coke (from our stash we snuck on)
IMG_2057.jpg

Someone wants to kick a trashcan later
IMG_1817.jpg

We went to the Victorian Theater where they were putting on another cheesy show "The Big Easy" again bad singing and dancing.
IMG_1814.jpg

My awesome photo skills in full effect
IMG_1816.jpg

We went to find P as his club had now moved there (the kids had front row seats and they all were not liking that they were there. I thought it was a dumb scheduled activity. If I wanted them to go to the show, I would have taken them myself.) Anyhow, we told him he could extend his curfew to 1am since the last activity was at 1230am then he could get pizza after. (wow I was just thinking I didnt have a curfew like that until... ha until I moved out and got married LOL)

Since we were alone, we went to the adult comedy club with the same comedian from earlier John Rathbone. And this time he was funny since it was all meant for us. A much DIRTIER version of the earlier “family“ show. Could be because we ordered a few more drinks. (get the "blue" drink... it packs a punch! I call it 2 for the price of 1)

After we hit Decades the disco where they played 80s 90s hip hop and house music and everything in between. Danced a few songs. This must have been to techno so I could get the full effect LOL.
IMG_1821.jpg

Then went to get J from his club, they made masks that coninsided with tonights show.
IMG_1823.jpg

J's club (circle C for the 6-8yr olds) had a fun filled night. They not only decorated masks, but they got to go to Club O2 (the 15-17yr old club) for Kids Celebration (free drinks, well soda, smoothies, & shakes). There was learning on the cruise also.. Educruise happened 2times a day and tonight was about the stars and Planets. They also had H2Ocean which were experiments. Tonights was Rockets right up J's alley. Then Dance Party, it couldnt get any better. J thinks he should try out for So You Think You Can Dance so tonight was his night to shine LOL

On the other side of the sliding wall they have the lil kids watching movies. But if the bigger kids want to lay down they can go over. They give out blankets and pillows, but they lay on the floor. I think they should have a good handful of bean bags like on the Disney ship... or padded mats to lay on just not the hard floor. Point for the big Cheese there.

We were on our way back to our room when we decided a lil pizza would hit the spot and who do we see in line… P so we cut in line and get a few pieces.
IMG_1825.jpg

Headed back to the room, boys watched some tv then headed off to dream land. I worked on my trip report, & put out the room service menu before hitting the rack to order coffee and danishes.

Really? No tastings at all? That really surprises me- I sure hope they have them on RCI- I need something to do on my 4 sea days!

We wanted to hit up the family comedy show before dinner so off we went (no stiletto 5k as we had plenty of time to get there.

This is CRAZY!!! The family comedy was soooo good on our last cruise that we dragged T&T out of Edge for it- and they were both HYSTERICAL!

YOU ARE A ROCK STAR!!! Good for you and shame on Carnival!:thumbsup2

This is another GORGEOUS photo- very worth the OUCH!

E & I took a nice one and look he’s sort of smiling

What an awesome couple!

Well, they ARE- I would have said the same thing-

Then they saw E in “sneakers” and laughed, a few guys yelled over.. That looks awesome, smart guy… NO smart WIFE! Since the boys wanted to wear chucks with their formal gear, I got E a pair also. He took his nice shoes as he didn’t want to wear the tennis shoes but with enough egging on from the boys ….
IMG_1811.jpg

LOVE that!

they wanted to hurry back to their clubs. Off they then went back to the room to change out of the monkey suits with strict instructions on how to hang up their suits and stay together. Then once done to come back up to the dinning room.

Yea- you have them well trained- our cabin looked like a crime scene after formal night-

I think he really wanted to tell you about it! :rotfl2:

Once back at the room we changed and had a drink, I opened my wine and pretty much finished it off. (should have got 2 bottles darn me what was I thinking?)
IMG_1818.jpg

My guess is you should have brought 7 bottles.....

My awesome photo skills in full effect

I love your pics- I feel like I'm there! :rotfl:

Since we were alone, we went to the adult comedy club with the same comedian from earlier John Rathbone. And this time he was funny since it was all meant for us. A much DIRTIER version of the earlier “family“ show. Could be because we ordered a few more drinks. (get the "blue" drink... it packs a punch! I call it 2 for the price of 1)

Do ya think he was scared when he saw you come in?

After we hit Decades the disco where they played 80s 90s hip hop and house music and everything in between. Danced a few songs. This must have been to techno so I could get the full effect LOL.
IMG_1821.jpg

LMAO! :rotfl2:

Headed back to the room, boys watched some tv then headed off to dream land. I worked on my trip report, & put out the room service menu before hitting the rack to order coffee and danishes.

This pic is GREAT!!!! I love the Chuck Taylors!!!! And the shades...... "here come the men in black......." :rotfl2:

Love your updates! I thought it was so cute all the boys wearing chucks with ther suites...too cute. I also loved your dress!! My favorite pic was the one with all the men wearing sunglasses....:lmao:

First of all - YOU LOOK HOT!!! You look so beautiful - all that hard work in the gym really paid off. So much so that you might just inspire me to get my fat a$$ off the couch and get back into it.

I also take all the free toiletries I can get my hands on too! I probably have three cosmetics bags FULL of crap I've taken from hotels & ships over the past year!

So when are you going on your next cruise? I want to come with you! I honestly think you and I are long lost drinking/booze cruisen sisters. ;)

I'm loving this report, Drea! It is fun to see you comparing Freddy and Mickey.
It seems like you are experiencing some of the same we did on RCCL, although maybe you are having better desserts, and could bring your own soda on. And your other refreshments. They find ways to upcharge alot of things, so your cheaper cruise costs more than you planned - if you fall for it.

I see the chocolate dessert was a Disney poser!:goodvibes

Okay, the guy behind E with the wedgy - :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I didn't see E on my screen at first, and I was wondering why you had this couple there, especially because the guy looks like he's in pain :lmao:

You all cleaned up real nice for formal night!:thumbsup2 I had to laugh at your pic background. They had the same one on Liberty - looks alot like Titanic to me! Love the shoes with the suit! :thumbsup2 They look great on E - don't think Jim could pull it off.

The serenade was Hi-Larious!
