Goodbye Main Street Bakery....

Secondly, many people have argued that it should have no Starbucks signage. Instead somewhere should read "Proudly brewing Starbucks Coffee". This won't happen for a simply reason. The locations that have this signage outside WDW, only brew hot Starbucks coffee. The locations at DCA and soon to be MK and EPCOT locations, will have their full drinks menu including iced coffee and their frappuccinos, as well as some food menu items.

Thank you. I was trying to articulate that earlier in the thread. The "proudly serve" locations have contracts with a separate arm of Starbucks corporate.

I have an idea....let us discuss politics and we promise never ever to discuss Starbucks on disney property again.:lmao:

What is DCA?

Disneyland California Adventure. If you google Starbucks DCA, you will see the photos of the beautiful Starbucks location there. :thumbsup2

Ooh, ooh, can I play? I am a little apprehensive; worried my ham and cheese and egg croissant sandwiches won't make it onto the new menu and we're stuck with cold cardboard, like in most sbux I've been in. BUT, the real worry is...

Wait for it...

WHAT IF THEY DON'T ACCEPT THE DINING PLAN??!! :0

No information has come out about this yet but it's been speculated you will be able to use Snack Credits for drinks. I'm fairly sure in the same way MSB accepted the DPP, it will be the same at Starbucks. It's run by Disney, with Disney CM's working there.

So...Does Yak & Yeti look like a regular Landry's? Did Restaurantosaurus look like a McD's? Did the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom not fit in with the theme?

Why are people thinking these Starbuck's will be any different than these other fairly well themed corporate sponsored eateries?

As I said before, I don't like Starbuck's bitter coffee, but I don't think the "theme" of Main Street will be disrupted. It will fit in, just as all the other sponsored food outlets have in the past.

I think it's more about the idea of change that is terrifying people. Most people aren't come on here and saying "Oh my god, where can I get my Nescafe coffee from now?" Most people are worried about a menu change (which happens constantly at Disney in all their food outlets) although everything will be available somewhere still at MK and/or EPCOT. The other popular comment is "But we go here every trip!" If MSB more or less stays the same, almost identical menu just with the addition for SB food and drink alongside the Disney selections, will that stop people from going to MSB during future trips? :confused3

The issue for a lot of people seems to be Starbucks itself. For some reason, the Starbucks brand creates a lot of resentment. Usually this resentment is accompanied by false claims about how expensive Starbucks is and the usual complaint about the "burnt" coffee (i guess those people have not tried the blonde).

I must admit I don't under the argument is how expensive Starbucks is. Possibly because here Starbucks is actually cheap compared to other places to get a decent cup of coffee or iced coffee.

It's very simple. Don't like it or can't afford it - DON'T BUY IT! :thumbsup2

I don't like it overall, was more mad at first. It just needs to be: "Main Street Bakery will now serve Starbucks" not "Starbucks replacing MSB"

Which one really is it? I just hope it is done right, not messing up the theme!!

I seen pics of the DCA one and it does look nice and doesn't seem to mess up the theme there.

In my opinion (I don't know anything for certain but neither does anyone else on these boards) MSB will actually remain the same store, in addition to Starbucks food and drinks. I'm hoping they make the seating area bigger and nicer (the current one is tiny for how busy it gets) Disney hasn't said it's closing in the statement, it clearly states a refurbishment. When Big Thunder Mountain closed for it's refurbishment, it didn't re open as the Men in Black Ride from Universal. ;)

I guess this is where the confusion arises. Go to post #284 to see what the classic MSB looked like on the day the MK opened in 1971. Yes, it is a classic, and yes, it has always been there. And it has also been branded for the vast majority of time that it has been in operation. Just not by a lightning rod like Starbucks.

:thumbsup2 I see no difference in Sara Lee or Nestle being the sponsor to Starbucks. Don't even get me started on the Human Rights violations Nestle is well known for. :(

NEWSFLASH ----

"WAL-MART Supercenter coming to Downtown Disney"

"New at World Showcase - Australia with Outback Steakhouse"

:lmao: An Australian pavilion would be awesome! :thumbsup2

I'm having a hard time understanding why some people think they're going to completely get "rid" of MSB and make it a Starbucks :confused3 Why would they have spent 6 months renovating the MSB this year if they were just going to get "rid" of it?

:thumbsup2 A point I have brought up many times on this thread but it generally gets ignored. Disney knew about this long before they told the public, this hasn't been a surprise addition.

I can sympathize. Been there. Done that. But this particular debate is kind of hard to jump into mid-stream. So grab yourself a Dole Whip, a Toll House Cookie, some Edy's ice cream, a Coke and a Sara Lee cake and catch up on the prior 34 pages of how corporate greed is now coming to Main Street for the first time! ;)

Don't forget the Nescafe coffee at MSB :lmao:

Can you imagine?

'While reading this thread and drinking a Venti Mocha Frappacino, I've decided that SB is the best thing to happen to MSB and I look forward to enjoying a SB coffee each morning.'

I can't say I'm having one now, but I did earlier today! It was a Venti Coffee Frap, 2 pumps of coffee, no cream. And I LOVED every sip......... :rotfl: So excited at being able to have this finally at WDW!

We're going December 7th. When will SB be implemented? I know it's probably in this thread somewhere. Thanks for the tip, I do have a $25.00 gift card there so I will give it a try.

Not until Summer 2013! Sorry!

There is no way for them to put SB into the bakery AND keep it the MSB it is today. It's not possible.

You can't change something AND keep it the same.

No it won't be 100% identical, that would indeed be impossible. However if MSB stays the same name and exterior, the inside is refurbished to accommodate the larger crowd it attracts. If the food generally remains the same, what is the problem?

This is one entertaining read tonight. I'm just glad I don't care one way or the other, or I'd be banging my head against the same wall many of you are.

:lmao: This topic is like a car accident. You know you should look away and drive on but you can't........ :lmao:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao:

This made me literally laugh out loud.

And I am especially thankful for the bold part. :thumbsup2

I thought the new movie opening was going to be Steamboat Mickey with two "Starbucks signs" as his ears? :confused3:thumbsup2

I have the answer--it's obvious. I think we should turn the castle into a MSB item. You know, like this:

25cake2.jpg

That had to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen! It's beyond terrible!

MSB is iconic to Main Street, sure not as big as castle but still. Why do you think so many people are upset? Do you really think just because of SB in parks? Everyone wants good coffee. Place they SB somewhere else, everyone would jump, except SB haters of course.

MSB is a store at WDW. :confused3 It's that simple. Countless stores have come and gone before hand (Magic Shop, Tobacco Shop) MSB isn't actually going anywhere, it's more than likely still going to be called MAIN ST BAKERY! This seems more personal to Starbucks (not necessarily you but the general tone of the thread) If you don't like Starbucks, don't buy it.

If all they did is remodel a portion of MSB to fit coffee machines, that would be fine. However it is not what article suggest. Discussing theme and costumes of future place hardy suggests just putting coffee machines or a little change, it suggest new place, SB location, as per article. MSB will not be gone completely, some offerings will stay but by no means it is an addition of SB to MSB, as sponsorship would suggest and it is hardly co-existence as well.

Sorry I'm not going back to read all your posts so let me make it simple, I said what I would do would you come back and admit that you were wrong if it isn't a Starbucks location and not simply a refurbishment of the bakery as Disney said in their release.

I quoted it for you. Bolded is what you asked me about and this is what I shake hands on. Notice, anything more then refurbishing of just a portion of MSB to fit machines/new products, any change in present theme/decor in the rest of MSB as per article and admitting being wrong is on you. Good to go? One of us is eating hat in a year.

This is so absurd. Of course the decor will change, as it would regardless of the introduction of starbucks. it has changed many times in the past. why do you think it should now be frozen for all time?

No I said I would admit I was wrong if it became a Starbucks location which is what you are claiming it would become. You said refurbishment and opening a Starbucks actually meant closing MSB. You have been arguing that it is impossible to interpret the Disney release as anything but a closing.

We just got back today (Friday) and we spent most of our mornings there! This is just about the worst thing they could do to the main street bakery!:confused3 But, on the other hand, if they continue to sell the same Disney baked goods and only change the coffee to Starbucks then that wouldn't be so bad. What I don't like seeing is other Corporate names inside the parks, it ruins the "magic". What's next...McDonalds next to Casey's? I guess we'll all have to wait and see. pirate:

Does anyone remember that they used to serve McDonald's fries in MK a few years back and then the deal with them died I guess because they stopped serving them. That didn't really bother me much because they had them in Frontierland. The idea of a Starbuck's on Main Street USA ruins MK IMO. I work in NYC and I can't get anything except Starbucks. I go to WDW to escape reality. I thought Main Street was modeled after Walt's hometown. If they must have Starbuck's in the park, can't they put it in a different spot?! This makes me so sad.

Why is Starbucks, in particular, a problem on main street when other brands are ok (and have always been there)?

This seems to be a question no one can answer. :confused3 The closest response we have gotten to this question is "The other brands are quite old compared to Starbucks so somehow that's alright?" :confused3

I find it amusing that people are worried about the ice cream sandwich when it is made by Nestle TollHouse Cookies and Edy's Ice Cream. :lmao: Both brands not owned by Disney. The coffee they serve is Nescafe/Nestle. They also sell Coke inside the Bakery, again not owned by Disney. And yet Starbucks coming to MSB is a tragedy?

Seriously??!! All this over coffee at MSB?? Right now you can get coffee and baked goods at MSB.....after the refurbishment you will still be able to get coffee and baked goods!!!!
I am 46 years old and have been going to WDW since I was 12, it's changed a lot in all of those years. It's still my favorite place on Earth!
I will be there again this January with my 21 year old daughter to celebrate her College Graduation (we are leaving my husband and son home this time, girls only!!). While we are there Splash will be closed, MSB will be closed......doesn't matter to us at all!! It's Disney and we will be smiling from the time we land until the time we have to board the plane back home.
Disney will always be changing.....but it will always be magical.....even with Starbucks coffee at the Main Street Bakery!!:)

Why would Starbucks bring you back to reality and not Coke, Edy's?

By reading your post, it seems you are assuming they are going to tear down MSB and replace it with an SB similar to those you see everyday.

They are not. Main Street will still look the same.

:thumbsup2 Excellent point. I've seen people walk down Main St with Coke Bottles and the Magic Lives on!

Do you walk around the parks with blinders on? Because that would be the only way to avoid the the branding and thus, reality.

Many people have talked about why it's good business to have Starbucks on Main St. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.
