Goodbye Main Street Bakery....

This is the song that never ends,
yes it goes on and on my friend.
Some people started singing it,
not knowing what it was,
and they'll continue singing it forever just because

You know, trying little attacks is not the best idea. There are plenty of people who discuss this topic including you and me, so please stay on a level, without trying to cause troubles.
And to answer your question, I am not suggesting any locations at all, however there are plenty in park, people like their coffee everywhere.

Huh......attacks? You are just arguing for the sake of arguing, it's blatantly obvious. You've regurgitated the same thing in different words all day.

Lets just agree to disagree, I think this thread has ran it's course.

They're basically putting the bakery on refurbishment and then turning it into a Starbucks. I think it's a horrible idea.

And you attacking again, how nice. I discuss my point just like others. Sorry if you do not like it, do not read it.:confused3 Have a nice day.

People like their baked goods, sandwiches anywhere, better?
Well obviously WDW doesn't think there is a market for two bakeries in one park.

And maybe Starbucks wouldn't agree to the deal unless they had a prominent location.

If all they did is remodel a portion of MSB to fit coffee machines, that would be fine. However it is not what article suggest. Discussing theme and costumes of future place hardy suggests just putting coffee machines or a little change, it suggest new place, SB location, as per article. MSB will not be gone completely, some offerings will stay but by no means it is an addition of SB to MSB, as sponsorship would suggest and it is hardly co-existence as well.

Just so that I (and many others) can understand your position, can you describe for us what you think this new venture is going to look like architecturally? And what do you think the menu will be? As has been pointed out ad infinitum, even the official blogger does not know what the final menu will be, yet you are certain that it spells doom for whatever your personal favorites are. Most here believe that the outside will not look materially different from the Plaza, Casey's or the current MSB. Most think that visually, ir will not be any different from when Sara Lee held the corporate sponsorship. But you are certain that the new venture will not fit in and will be an eyesore. So what do you anticipate?

StarBucks coffee is not better than the eh hem so called Nestle coffee. I don't like Starbucks at all. Why couldn't they just conceal the Starbucks logo and just serve the starbucks coffee like they did with McDonald Fries etc. at Frontier Land and World showcase in EPCOT? After all McDonald's coffee tastes so much better then that bitter tasting, outrageously priced Starbucks.

***

The March 2007 issue of Consumer Reports compared American fast-food chain coffees and ranked Starbucks behind McDonald's Premium Roast.[181] The magazine called Starbucks coffee "strong, but burnt and bitter enough to make your eyes water instead of open".

If you were the CEO of Starbucks, how much would you pay for a contract to sell your brand, except your brand would be hidden, and the location you were given for said sales would be tucked in the back of the park near the Carousel of Progress? People seem to want the sale of Starbucks products to be sub rosa. But why would Starbucks pay Disney and its shareholders for that type of arrangement?

Um, well Jimmy, McDonalds used this same strategy when selling their tasty fries in EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom. Their logo was there but it was subdued within the kiosk. The golden arches were NOT blaring and glaring at the customer because they (Disney) wanted to keep the integrity of the EPCOT aesthetics.

But how much did MacDonald's pay for this arrangement compared to what Starbucks is paying? Promenance of branding is going to be a major factor in pricing.

I am guessing this will be like all the other places that sell Starbucks coffee. I know at my daughter's university the library sells Starbucks but she cant use a gift card there so I'm guessing it will be the same here.

I was able to use my S'bux giftcard at the DCA location. And get an AP discount.

It's more than "proudly served here", but less than the big green awning.

Did it open in DL bakery, keeping bakery theme unchanged, just offering some new items including coffee in addition to bakery items with some sponsorship logos? Or they changed theme completely, creating themed SB with some offerings from bakery? First scenario would be sponsorship, second is a take over. Sorry you do not want to see it. And yes I am glad to see new items as well but I am not blinded by that to see it as it is.

They were *already* retheming that whole area of DCA. The train car that the coffee/bakery area and the ice cream area were in was on its way out *anyway*. The revamping of that area was to make it MORE in line with the theming of Buena Vista Street, not less. And still it doesn't scream Starbucks.

Editing: noticed you asked about the Disneyland bakery. I was responding about the Starbucks location, which is in DCA.

For the DL bakery, we lost that entirely. From disneyfoodblog.com:

Blue Ribbon Bakery is shutting its doors for good today, and although it will be missed, exciting new things are on the horizon for its location. The bakery will be used to provide an expansion for The Carnation Cafe. The bakery will become indoor seating for the restaurant, which will be undergoing a complete remodel, also starting this week.

Worried about where you will get your baked goods fix? Dont. The Jolly Holiday Bakery grand opening is on Saturday

The Blue Ribbon had incredibly ridiculous lines. It's much better handled at Jolly Holiday and at the DCA "Starbucks" location (I can't ever remember the whole new name at any given time, LOL). They did nothing but improve matters. And on that disneyfoodblog article I'm quoting from, they picture a bunch of stuff that was at the last holiday season...given all the traditional Halloweentime treats that were still being served at both the Jolly Holiday store and the DCA location (alongside Starbucks treats in DCA), I would bet all of the Holidaytime treats going to be sold at both of those places as well.

I am *highly* resistant to change at Disney. But most of the changes they've made at Disneyland Resort recently have been VERY good. That's why I'm having a hard time doubting the changes being made at WDW. (the changes I haven't liked, like getting rid of the koi pond at Disneyland Hotel, I'm sure were made for practical reasons, like the concept of having sensitive animals out there for anyone to mess with and probably having to replace koi ALL the time)

I can't use my SB rewards there, but I can use a Disney AP discount.

There have been people who have earned their rewards there, FWIW.

You mean like the way they have a subdued Starbucks sign at DCA?

Hard to see anything past all the Starbucks logos in DCA huh...

I stated my position many times, I cannot describe what it will be, only what it will not, MSB. I never said place will not fit, you just twisting my words to fit your point.

Says who? :confused3

Says s/he who negotiates the contract. Would any corporation pay for naming rights of a stadium if the stadium was not going to be called by the corporate name? Would Starbucks pay $$$ for a spot on Main Street if no one knew if was a Starbucks?

By all accounts, the theming will be Disney and the branding will be subtle. But it can't be invisible, or, to use your word, concealed.

Again, will you come back and post you were wrong if it turns out to be the case?

JImmy, please point out where I used the word "concealed". When you write, please be more factual and not use verbage that I did NOT say. We are NOT talking about million dollar stadiums we are talking about a bakery on Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Now, are you going to qualify your statement or not?
